The obvious glee of the many posters who believe in giving terrorist scum what they want never fails to sicken
I suspect most of the glee in this situation will be coming from the "moderates" living in sweden, praising there god at the same time.

You could have GPS and locked in route planning on all trucks. Any significant deviation from a route that isn't cleared by a third party triggers an alarm. Doesn't stop someone from hijacking a smaller vehicle though.
You'll never be able to stop an attack. You have to stop them wanting to attack.

Heavily armed police have arrived in numbers at the central train station in Stockholm which is being quickly evacuated. All hospitals in area on emergency footing.

Yeah, like we saw westminster, anyone can get into a car and do damage if they want.
Its just that with hijackings of company vehicles specifically, can anything be done? press a personal alarm, goes back to base, contact-no response from driver, police alerted to possible incident involving so and so reg number etc. i dunno.

    rip to those involved.

You'll never be able to stop an attack. You have to stop them wanting to attack.

The question wasn't how to stop an attack. The question was specifically about these truck attacks. Technology can be used to restrict the ability of attackers to carry out THIS specific type of attack.

I agree with your sentiment but that's not what my post was addressing.

But the ****er who did this was probably born in Sweden, the trouble is, that when they come to Europe they do not want to inergrate and feel part of the country they are living in, the expect the country they have come to and their people to adopt their ways,, the ****ers should stay where they are if they do not want to embrace their new home..

    Are you for real?
They have been given asylum in one of the most receiving countrys in the world who have bent over backwards for refugees,
Are you blaming Sweden for this attack?

    RIP to the victims.

I'm actually surprised that Sweden hasn't had a major terrorist attack given the unchecked immigration that is destroying the country. Make no mistake, they utterly hate us and want to destroy us.

    Time to start fighting back.

This is precisely the sort of self-loathing that has contributed to our continent getting into this mess.

Surely you are not allowed to generalise all of western society in being complicit in bombing the Middle east ... ;)

I wouldn't have really taken that as blaming sweden, and hes right, we can stop attacks here and there but thats just treating the symptoms not curing the disease, the only way to truly stop this is to combat islamist ideology

Swedsh PM says everything points to a terror attack.

This is not the first time there have been an attack either.
Last one was Taimour Abdulwahab in 2010 that tried to blow people up one the same street (Queen Street).
Fortunately the bombvest exploded before he reached the crowds and he was the single casualty.

You're doing what many people are doing which is projecting a rational grievance mindset onto religious fundamentalists - or basically ignoring people when they say they are doing it for religious reasons and asking 'what do they really want'.

I find it difficult to imagine that in a country like ours that has seen a shift in religious devotion only in relatively recent terms, that people would ignore or forget just how powerful the drive for salvation can be. These attacks make all the sense in the world if you actually conceive that, stage as it may sound, some people actually talk their faith seriously, and will do what they can to observe it.

The are certainly things that can be done for this specific type attack. The problem is implementing a solution across enough vehicles that it actually makes a difference. Most fleets likely have GPS tracking so at least the potential refit effort could be low. What you need then is oversight of that data, sprinkle in some big data analytics and you'd get someway towards an early warning system. It would not be a trivial thing to implement and there's probably a load of red tape involved but in theory it would work. The other big problem is smaller companies that don't have fleet management solutions. How do you account for those.

Personal alarms are fine in theory but in all likelihood, an attack on a driver would be too swift for a driver to react.

this x100, using mental illness as a scapegoat for these attacks is disgusting, and the irony of it usually coming from people that would call themselves ''progressives'' would be hilarious if it wasnt so sick

Really, That's what sickens you? What is you think that they want? People discussing their attacks on an Internet forum?

I hear ya, but if its not a truck, its a jcb. If its not a jcb its a car, or knife or hammer, or anything else...
