Are there any words you're never quite sure on the pronunciation?

I still have to stop myself before saying hyperbole. The temptation is to just say hyper bowl :mad:

Segue is another.

GF says I pronounce colander the American way. Even when I think about it and try sayin it the 'right' way, I end up saying the American way.

Also, data. I hear people saying it differently and I'm never sure if I should say dayta or da ta.

I used to think it was pronounced Al-Bite when I would see it in print. Later in life I heard it used on the radio and figured it out.

An ex of mine used to think, and possibly still does, that "awe" was pronounced........ Ow-wee.

As in "he was in Ow-wee of his boss"

I worked in a bookies for a while. English tracks like Worcester and Towcester caused a lot of issues for people.

Myriad - one of those words I know from seeing it written down but always find odd when I hear it said out loud!

I almost had a car accident a few weeks ago when the radio played Natasha Beddingfield's song "These words" and she actually pronounces it hyperbowl - like did nobody at all in the studio think that might not be right???

Quite annoyingly, I know there are numerous words I pronounce incorrectly but I never remember which ones until I go to say them.

It can be awkward launching into a lengthy submission only to have to stop to attempt a word like a dope. A judge will sometimes take over your attempt and pronounce it for you.

The worst I've seen, though thankfully it was not me this time, was when some poor devil butchered a Latin phrase and had to endure a good 10 minute lecture from the bench on Latin pronunciation and lamenting that the language is so routinely butchered.
