    I'm assuming it's after the Labrador region of Newfoundland, Canada. Like the Labrador current.


    Yes and no.

    Labrador is wrong but Newfoundland is right. The breed was named Labrador as there was already the Newfoundland breed, but it has nothing at all to do with Labrador which is across the water from Newfoundland itself.
