    I'm going to be a pedantic ba$tard and say that Montserrat don't celebrate St. Patrick's Day. They celebrate a slave rebellion which happened to occur on the 17th March :p

    I'll get my coat now :D

    That doesn't stop it still being St. Patrick's Day - the very reason the uprising took place on the date it did.

    Cromwell sent Irish to some Caribbean islands. The endgame in Barbados is sad. There the "Redlegs" are on the lowest rung of the ladder economically, educationally and healthwise.
    In Montserrat some of the Irish themselves moved up and became slave owners, giving their surnames to slaves, and, apparently, the Irish language. The latter is poorly documented and the extent of spoken Irish remains something of a mystery. Perhaps it was spoken extensively or just existed as phrases knitted through the English language. No doubt virtually all of the Irish sent out were Irish speakers. Montserrat also has several Irish placenames such as Galway and Kinsale.
    Montserratians celebrate St. Patrick's Day not so much for its Irishness as for the fact that it is the anniversary of the 1768 slave rebellion against their Irish masters. The date of the rising was chosen knowing that the Irish would be drowning the shamrock. When some Irish people back in the 70s ( including Michael D. Higgins ) sought to reestablish a link I believe the efforts got a lukewarm reception.
    There is a story of a Galwayman sent out by Cromwell who was greeted on arrival by an African in Irish. "Tá fáilte romhat." The Galwayman was stunned into silence. When he recovered his speech he continued the conversation in Irish. "How long are you here?" he asked. "Twelve months" replied the African. "Blessed Jesus!" said the Galwayman, "I'll not stay here another day. You're here twelve months, and you're black already!"

    Found by GIMPS it has 22338616 digits (or something very close) :cool:

    Covered it in class last week :D

    we have one as well but hardly use it. Snakes use it all the time when the flick out the tongue to sense molecules in the air. Male animals can often be seen curling back the upper lip to search for a mate by sensing when a female is ready. (sorry, but that is nature)

    Yuri Andropov died in February 1984, after just 15 months in office. Chernenko was then elected to replace Andropov, despite concerns over his own ailing health, and against Andropov's wishes (he stated he wanted Gorbachev to succeed him).

    Ok, I a going to throw a question in to bring it back to two:


    Marigold, nasturtium, violet, elderberry, delphinium, carnation

    All but one of the above has edible flowers, which is the one you would not munch on?
