Anyone know of any good deals for the Samsung S7 Edge (sim free) at the moment? Looking to buy it as a gift.

It's available on Komplett.ie with full warranty but open box at 479.00 . That's the cheapest I was able to find it so will be keeping an eye here in case someone has a better option.

Hi, I just switched from an iPhone and got a galaxy s7. Is there any just have apps or tips etc? I haven't used android in years so it's all new to me. It's running nougat if that matters.
    Thanks.

I'm thinking of getting an S7 Edge when the S8 launches and the price drops a bit. Is there anything I should be watching out for? I've an Xperia Z5 at the minute, which I really love, but the battery life has gotten really bad over the last couple of months - like yesterday morning I got up, phone was at 98% charge, browsed on Facebook and Boards while I had my brekkie, so at most 30 mins, and I was down to 62% battery. If I'm playing a game like Pokemon Go the battery literally starts to drop before my eyes, usually if I'm going out pokemon hunting with my son I'd have to bring one of those battery pack things.

I've also noticed that when the processor is under load, like with a game or youtube etc the phone gets incredibly hot. Like it'd be uncomfortable to hold up to your ear it's that hot. I know the Z5 has that Snapdragon 810 processor, and the Edge has the 820. I've read that the 810 has a problem with overheating, but does the 820 have the same problem?

How do ye find the UI in terms of bloatware? I had a Galaxy S3 when it was the Samsung flagship, and while I did like it, the amount of bloatware drove me mental. Is it still the same with Samsungs or have they toned that down a bit? The Z5 is reasonably light on bloatware, there are a few of those useless type apps, but they're fairly unobtrusive and don't seem to eat battery. Chat-on was one samsung app that seemed to be a real problem on my S3.

Minimal bloat, touchwiz has changed immencly since the old days. Gone are the cartoon menus also

I used only use HTC up until the M8 and changed to the s7 edge, more than delighted with it

That's good to hear! The bloat was really what put me off Samsung for so long, I haven't had one since I got rid of my S3 about a year after I bought it. I ended up rooting just to get rid of a lot of it, but I wouldn't really be keen on the idea of rooting a €500+ euro phone, especially since rooting these days seems a lot more complicated than it used to be.

There was a 41Mb update a few days ago and ever since my S7 keeps disconnecting from Wi-Fi when the phone is asleep. It happens in work and at home so the router isn't the issue. As soon as I wake the phone it reconnects. The issue is I'm not getting messages etc now because the 4G doesn't kick in and they only come through when I wake the phone:/

    Anyone else experiencing this?

Is that not a new feature on Nougat that WIFI is disconnected while asleep to save battery.
I use Package Dissabler Pro to get rid of as much bloatware as I want, simple way around all the ****e that carriers load onto phones.
If ya want a completely clean phone go and buy a pure Android phone like a Google Nexus 5X or a Google Pixel

I have it set to always on so that shouldn't be it

Is that the Sammy battery saver icon in that screenshot? Battery saver would override the always on, I'd say.

It is but I'm pretty sure I had it off last night and it still did the same. I'll try it off again and see how it goes.

I've always used the power saver mode so if that is it, it's new since the 40Mb update

Yes I seem to be getting a day without issue also
see screenshot below for my last charge
Much better on Nougat than Marshmallow I find

That google services is such a pain in the arse. 7% over a day.

Anyone noticed that Android OS Services is using a large chunk of their data allowance. If so how do you stop it?

Google says it's from watching YouTube.

Never watch youtube on my phone. Need to find what it is and how to stop it as its used 2.25G of data in last 20 days, I think it has got worse since Nougat update. I have a 3 branded unlocked S7 on the Vodafone network so I get the 3 updates.

My Wi-Fi disconnecting is still an issue. I have Wi-Fi always on turned on and turned the battery saver off but it's still disconnecting and only reconnecting when I wake the phone. Such a pain

My phone got submerged in a creek that's got a little bit of seawater in it. Back and recent app buttons stopped working and it won't charge. Doesn't detect a charger in it. Everything else is fine. What can I do?

Nothing really, board is damaged, not covered by warranty and the cost of a repair would be excessive. If you're insured claim on it

Give it a couple of days to fully dry out.

I went snorkelling with mine before, wouldn't charge off the mains for a while, but would charge off a battery pack. It will be fine unless it was damaged and the waterproofing is breeched.

I think it's breeches. I noticed the top right off my phones back isn't sealed. Very slow charge from the wireless charger and now using an app that uses the capacitive buttons.

How much to get it fixed? I'm so annoyed with this

Get a ziplock bag and some uncooked rice, put the rice In the bag with the phone and make sure the phone is fully covered in the rice.
Then squeeze every last but of air out if the bag and quickly zip it closed as if it's vacuum packed.
Put it on the windowsill outside and wait for an Asian man to come and fix it.

There has definitely been a breach in the top left of the phone. It's not glued on properly there. Never noticed it until today. I'll try to rice trick again.

What is the problem if the rice doesn't work? How much an I looking at here? Currently in Australia and will be in Thailand next week so maybe I can get it fixed cheaper there?

I think I'm going to go mad and buy S7 Edge this week - and from Samsung UK site I can see..
"Buy an S7 edge or S7 and receive a 128GB memory card"

Has anyone had any issues getting it direct from Samsung UK? Could only see posts from a year ago - not sure if any recent cases?

Or should I just play it safe and get it off Vodafone sim-free? (I'm with Vodafone but would like to avoid any of their bloatware if possible..)

I'll only speak to the bloatware, on Vodafone version its a non issue. There are about 3 Vodafone related apps and they don't have to used and don't use any system resources worth taking about.

I personally wouldn't pay for sim free when they're giving it away for free on bill pay.

Edit: another option if you did happen to get the Vodafone one is to flash the uk unlocked firmware, fairly easy do.

    Cheers re: bloatware
My argument for Sim Free is I don't want to get tied into a contract paying €80 a month for plans much worse than the one I'm currently on!
vs €20 a month for 20gb data, unlimited texts & spotify that i'm on now!

One swift painful payment is worse than drawing it out over 2 years!

Ah sorry I see its only free on 80 not 40.

Buying it SIM free saves you money, not the opposite.
