I updated my G4 the other day to 7.0 nothing anymore beneficial to me really.
One thing I have noticed is when you use the camera the brightness does not change. Before if I opened the camera the brightness would automatically increase whether it was dull or bright. None of my settings have changed and still have automatic brightness selected. I really liked this feature but cannot seem to see if it was affected in the update, has this happened to anyone else?

Hey folks, just a heads up: the OTA Android N update bricked my Moto G4 earlier today.

It seems to be affecting a few others as well. No idea why yet, but thankfully it's still under warranty. Motorola support told me to send it over to the UK for a warranty repair / replacement.

Hopefully this won't affect you, but just in case...

Unfortunately I can't post a URL because of my low post count, but you can find the issue over on the Motorola / Lenovo Moto G4 forum as well. Here's what I posted there.

    Hi,

Same issue here: received notification of an available OTA system update (Android Nougat) on my Moto G4 this morning. Download went fine, but soon after I kicked off the installation process, my phone was bricked. Won't turn on, won't charge, won't even factory reset. White notification LED blinks continuously, which usually indicates a dead battery (less than 5% charge), but battery was at 97% when I started the update. Left the phone charging from the wall charger for a few hours to no avail.

Had an online chat with Motorola support who tried to bring me through the standard troubleshooting steps (force reboot, charge, external factory reset, etc.) but it didn't fix the issue.

The phone is roughly nine months old, so it's still under warranty. After the troubleshooting steps failed I was directed to send it into the nearest Motorola service centre for a warranty repair / replacement. I'm in Ireland so that means posting it over to the UK.

    RIP my Moto G4. :|

Better for it to happen now than in 4 months time.

True, true. For the price (£162/€195) I've been quite happy with it. Managing with only 16GB of internal memory has been a bit of a pain and in retrospect I should have paid a bit extra for the 32GB model instead. Anyway, I reckon I got what I paid for. At least it failed within the warranty period.

Still, I thought that others should be aware that the Nougat update carries a risk of bricking their phones.

I upgrade to Nougat a couple of weeks back and can now get 48 hours between charges.

Is there different versions of Nougat or what ?? :D

I was updated to 7.0 with the December security patch. No problems so far and I've noticed a big battery improvement not that it was bad to begin with.

I'm on 6.0.1 and I'm starting to get a lot of issues with my G4

Anyone else finding the phone running extra slow ?
    It's also dropping my Wi-Fi connection - a lot !

This all seems to have come out of the blue. Should I do a reset and hope it improves or is it facing a slow death ?

Phone is only about a year old too. Wife has a G3 which is still as good as when she got it so its very annoying that mine is starting to have problems

Yeah I think my battery might be slightly better too since 7.0

Oh well, give me an easy life and a peaceful death.

My Wifi issues on 7 seem to have stopped. other than I have no issue. Well other than the ghost touch, which seem to be slowly getting worse.

Likewise we have a G3 which has no issues. Its a noticeably slower phone though.

I will add in disimproved battery life. And it might be my imagination but it is now also a bit laggy sometimes

Same here, noticing the ghost touch happening much more frequently. Updated the g4 to nougat, and haven't noticed any other differences really. Not sure if the increased frequency of ghost touch is because of updating or if it was increasing anyway.

G4 plus is still running marshmallow and I think I'm going to leave it that way. I have noticed it becoming more sluggish, but I think that's down to the space maybe? I have the SD card set as external, but I might format it and set it as part of the internal memory to see if that helps.

I was wondering if what I consider ghost touches is lag or vice versa. I know locking the phone and unlocking it generally fixes it.

For me its very minimal. Far better than any other phone I've owned. Never had a high end phone though. Android on the G4 is the smoothest I've never seen it.

Was there ever a root for it as read up that there was some rooting issues with it?

I find certain apps aren't running as well after the update to Nougat, but I dunno if thats down to the phone or the apps themselves.

Pretty sure you'll only get the black one in a store. The white is dual sim, and it seems to be all single sims in actual stores here.

Am leaving this here for the linky to root Nougat, Root Nougat

The reported issues with Nougat is apparently with NPJ25.93-11.

FWIW, the current firmware installed for retgb channel on mine is at NPJ25.93-14.

I ordered the Moto G4 Play fromtesco and it should be arriving tomorrow. Looking forward to it. Last smartphone I had was stuck on 4.0.4 and had less than 3gb of free space.

The 3gb ram and 2 sim version is available on Amazon for preorder works out cheaper than the Argos version

Do any of you folks have a Moto G4 with dual sim? I'm considering getting one from EuGlobalCentral because it's a 3GB RAM version. But it's also dual sim.

I was wondering if the second sim icon is always visible on the status bar even if you don't have the sim inserted in the second slot?

I have the g4 plus dual sim and that doesn't show icon for second sim.

Thank you for the swift reply, Tom. That's great then. The second icon always being there even though I'm not using it would bother the hell out of me.

Upgraded to nougat last week, not much difference that I can see, except for the spilt screen which I haven't really used tbh. Battery life appears to have improved significantly though.
