286bhp V 313hp. Can't say the F13 feels any faster to be honest but it's a much more refined car.

So 28.5k over 3 years.
Depending on gfv you could effectively be leasing it for that amount or if there was 7/8 k in equity at the end it's not the worst picture I.e. 20 k loss over 3 years.

640d will be a more expensive car to run on a daily basis I imagine.

So I drove the 330e today. Nothing whatsoever wrong with the power of it.

However... my 9 year old car is a nicer place to be. Couldn't spend that money every month and be missing things like electric memory seats, xenons, etc etc it's also an awful lot narrower.

The massive 11k contribution is great but it's a bit of a grey area in 3 years time. How much equity will a 330e owner be chasing?!? No doubt there will be more grants available but there's still potential to be stung for more deposit.

Finance guy in M&G confirmed BMW don't allow the plans to be set up with a view to having bucket loads of equity in the car at the end of the term. They're also one of a few brands that allow you put no deposit in if you want higher repayments and less of a surprise at the end of the term as regards repayment changes.

Having spent more time around the 5 series I really like it. 530e will be a really interesting one.

I'm really at a loss as to where to go, that 640d is a beautiful, beautiful car but I could have a brand new 5 series for similar money. Space grey, oyster leather, 19s. Then there's the Golf GTI. I'm a tormented man.

Why are you changing from the 635d in the first place?
Seems to do all you require?
It's a great car and certainly won't lose value like a new car will.

Out of the 330e, 530e, 640d and GTI I'd have that 640d any day of the week.

Much rarer car, better fun to drive and gorgeous looking IMO.

Have to agree with this, but if it doesn't feel a big step up from your 635d why bother?

On the other hand.
I read on another thread Audi are doing zero finance on used cars.
Maybe good time to try an A7 for something different?

F13 does feel like an upgrade, don't get me wrong. But the upgrade is in technology, style, interior etc not necessarily the engine.

Why change as you said, I suppose I just get itchy after a year or so with a car. Can't give any logical reason at all

Would you consider the Alfa Giulia Veloce? Not sure if it's available here yet but it's on the uk website so I assume it can be bought here.

Lovely looking car, saw one today actually but I've had one Alfa, that was enough.

Working out the cost of a factory order GTI at the moment.

Colm Quinn obviously don't want to shift those 640D's, rang yesterday, "someone will ring you back in 10 mins".... still waiting!!

Those bmw dealers must be run off their feet.
I went from gti pp to bmw 330e.
Golf is great but after the 635d I can't see it satisfying you for long. It didn't for me anyway.
The finish on the golf is mass market high quality ok. A car built for a market 20 to 50 k but the 6 series is a 100k car.
Different level.

Would have to agree with the above. New car smell won't last long and you'll want something else before long. It'll take a big hit being a new car then too.

For that money would you not get a 640d that has been nicely run in. If a 635d is causing you an itch after a year, what's a 520d going to do to improve things?

Mark I cannot see you being happy with the performance of a 520d coming from a 635d once the new car novelty wears off.

This guy has a 530d for a few grand more which would be more palatable coming from a 635d, might be worth giving him a ring. He is the brother of the BMW dealer in Galway/Athlone afaik and seems to get some nice metal into stock so might give you a decent trade-in for the 635d.

TBH, I'm conscious of the power loss but aware that an awful lot of cars won't have the torque especially that I'm used to. I'm open minded enough, if M&G could've made numbers work on a G30 and they really tried, I would've taken a 520d in a heartbeat. Getting trickier lifting the baby in and out of the 6 too.

The most logical change to satisfy me is an F13, it's not proving too easy. I need to sink 2-3,000 cash into my car to make it viable with a specialist, a main dealer didn't return a call on one (I'm not gonna beg them to take 40 odd grand off me), the UK is appealing for one but again I need mine gone. A few months down the line would suit me better to be doing that option. There's also the possibility of €20,000 depreciation in two years on one. Everything depreciates and no car I buy will be immune but that kind of unknown space has me considering things like a Golf GTI on PCP. 4 doors, cheap money, fun car, very cheap to run for me (barely do 10 thou kms a year). Is diesel going to be very frowned upon amongst the public in 2/3 years time making these types of cars lose even more money. Maybe I'm over thinking it!

There's little wrong with my car, I wish it had a few more of the gadgets modern cars have these days like Bluetooth audio streaming and some more up to date safety features to bring the cost of insuring it down etc but if push comes to shove I've no issue holding onto it for another year.

The 5 series isn't a whole lot better, it's pretty low and not a huge amount of space, packing for a weekend away is a challenge. I've a 1 and 2yr old, the 2yr old sits behind me and is now well able to kick my seat. Not sure how much longer I'm going to get out of the 530.

If you want more practicality and a bit of performance relatively cheap, how about skoda Octavia combi vrs?
Same drive train as golf gti, more practical and good offers around on finance. A good pcp bet too as they retain value well.
There is also a seat cupra estate too and 0% finance available I think.
They're not at all 6 series equivalent but if you want a mix of performance and practicality without losing your shirt in depreciation they might be good bets.

I bought two seats that turn 360 degrees mainly because of my 2 door but also, they just making things easier so the height of a 5 series doesn't bother me it's the stretching and stepping into the car, child is 2 1/2 now so getting heavier to lift etc - it's not a deal breaker though.

Was out walking earlier and I saw a 171 black GTI, looked really well in 4 door, I think the interior of them is a nice place to be too but the Skoda and even more so Seat interiors, just don't cut it in my opinion. I'm 10 years in BMWs now so I've no problem admitting I'm a fussy so and so.

Appreciate all the suggestions none the less. Cupra estate is a good looking car.

M&G cut the APR rate for me twice, offered nearly 17k for mine, €5,000 in total off the 520 (I'd be confident there would've been €6,000 if I held out my hand) and would've had a space grey with a lovely navy leather interior M-Sport ready to go by late last week, this week. They were going to write me a cheque for the balance on my car (what I owe is a normal BOI loan) and I wouldn't have had to put any of my own cash up front but the monthly was €900+. Even still, I was so tempted, the idea of a brand new model, all the gadgets, hardly any of them on the road yet etc but with responsibilities of childcare, needing to be more generous with my pension etc I needed to think with my head. It's easy to lose the run of yourself when it comes to the idea of a brand new car.

Whether they'll continue the 4k contribution for 2017 is unknown but if I ordered a GTI, I'll need 10% saved. If BMW continue with the 4k and I save 4k myself (which I'd be doing anyway for a GTI) that would make the 5 series doable for me I'd say. Every thousand euro is basically €25-30 per month.

So I rang that BMW dealer with a few 640d models in stock. Again.

Gave details on my car, emailed pics. No email back to say thanks for sending etc and tomorrow will be into day three of no further call. Unreal.

You would imagine with such poor sales in the first few months of the year they would be eager to talk but maybe they are only interested in selling new cars by which they seem to be only measured by these days. I'll bet they will ring you back in a month or two on a rainy day when the showroom is empty again.

There's a thread on Bimmerpost at the moment where a chap from Donegal drove down 4 hours yesterday to pick up his newly ordered 5 series from that dealer.
While the genius was bringing him through the car they discovered no nav installed. After a few hours of waiting with the dealer trying to set it up they eventually sent him back to Donegal in their demonstrator with a promise to send it up in a few days.
What should have been a great day for him was ruined. If I had paid 55k and driven 4 hours to the dealer I don't think I would be very understanding.

I see the two 640d cars in Howth have dropped by €2,000 each.
