Kelly Ann Byrne is the best DJ on Today FM

cracking show this evening with all female artists

I'm listening to it here. I've been listening to the show from day one, whether it be live or on the listen back function. From the first time I heard it, I knew it would be a show I'd be listening to every week.

I never really listened to TXFM, so I didn't get to hear much of Kelly-Anne on that. But, I agree that she's excellent on Today FM. Her enthusiasm for music is always evident on the show, and she really knows her stuff.

I'm going to listen back to the show tomorrow!

Just shows how crap the rest of the music has become on 2day fm

I just hope that The Beat Goes On doesn't end up becoming a victim of the changes in the station and ends up being substituted for some Saturday night 'dancey' show.

It was days like yesterday that you realise the content of Today Fm's daytime schedule isnt able for the serious content.
Having to wait till the last word for any decent conversation on a tragedy that had the whole country talking.
I've said it before and maybe it's an age thing but I don't feel connected to Today Fm and don't really care for it much any more.

    .

The story was being covered extensively by the two talk channels, Radio1 and Newstalk.

TodayFM is not designed for serious content.

It's not as if Ian Dempsey, Ray Foley or Tony Fenton would have covered this type of story in the past. Only D'arcy would have.

In that case why have the Last word, the business show and Delmares show on Sunday.
On tuesday morning there was joking and laughing between the newsreader and presenter(s) then straight into trying to doing a serious news piece.
It's not that I'm looking for wall to wall serious content, but the old days of a bit of music and covering the relevant stories of the day worked well.
All they seem to do now is cover bs, oh look at this survey, nonsense event, text in your own experience.

You might find that the Last Word will be phased out over time to fit the rest of the station.

The weekend is a different kettle - in the same way that Sunday papers are different to weekday papers. Different people and demographic listening.

The channel is evolving into something that may not be for you.

Have the same feeling about the Last word being moved alright. And you're right the station is definitely turning into one that's not my cup of tea.
But the problem I find with the 2 stations you mentioned earlier is that they're too talk heavy.
The old mix was nice but nobody seems to be catering for that market anymore.

Al Porter has to have one of the most punchable smiles/faces in the history of mankind. I've never actually saw him on TV or heard him on radio but I despise the bastard.

So you despise someone based on looks and nothing else?
That's says a lot about you!

I think it's a good thing that we didn't have to suffer hearing about 6 foot 6 truck drivers who had tears rolling down their face over the missing helicopter crew

Anybody know whats going on up there on a Sat morning? 2nd week in a row, 7am ad comes on for the very last word with Matt Cooper....then news jingle...then ad break....then sports jingle...(no news or sport btw)....then ad break followed by a song which half way thru gets interrupted by robo dj!

Is there really nobody there at 7am on a Sat morning to press "next" when robo dj makes a balls of everything and what time does Alison Curtis start at if shes not around to fix the problem??

Due to the nature of my job The Very Last Word with Matt Cooper is the only time I now get to listen to Matt and catch up on what's been going on. I was very tempted to ring Alison this morning and ask wtf is going on up there!

Surely there must be some prep to be done beforehand. Doubt she just swans in at 7:57am straight to her studio & presses play and off she goes.

The quality and content of her show sounds exactly like that's what she does.

Changes not working for me anyway. If I forget about D&D in the morning, there is no listening to the station for the rest of the day. Al Porter has the worst voice and style for radio. Honestly, it is very hard to figure out what TodayFM are trying to do. I suspect their next ratings will be a disaster

I listen until mid-day and then don't turn it back on for the rest of the day

The office radio now has a habit of switching from Today FM to 2FM at 12 on the button everyday...I reckon 2FM might see a bump in the next JNLR's as a result of how muddled and all over the place Today FM is now in terms of content/presenters/music.

I hate the new line up, and after 15 plus years of listening to Today FM, I'm all but done now.

Al Porter is dismal. I appreciate that it can take a while for a new presenter to ease into a show but the constant innuendo and general airheadedness is intolerable. I liked D&D in their old slot but they are too much, too early, and too long for me in the mornings. I also cannot abide the Today FM playlist!! It has bugged me for years but I stuck with the station because I liked the presenters. Even those with potential (D&D, Louise) are totally overpowered by the repetitive cycle of muck. Genuinely interested to know if it is it the same with all stations? I haven't had much luck in flicking around but even from what I do hear, other stations don't seem to have as limited a set as Today FM.

It's not really radio news anymore, but I was happy to see that Anton has resurfaced on twitter over the past few weeks. Apparently he'll be on The Restaurant on TV3 at some stage. I don't normally watch it but might tune in for him if I remember.

I used to religiously listen to D&D before they moved, same way I used to listen to Iano, D'arcy, Foley, Fenton and Cooper. Now, the only one I regularly listen to is Cooper. During the day, Nova is a big contender and in the evenings, Off the Ball but if I'm on my laptop during the day, often it's youtube that will be stuck on. Really disappointing, I used have such love for Today Fm.

I am no fan of Al Porter, but for balance I would like people to hear Ray D'arcy's first few months on Today FM. He made Al Porter sound like an old pro.

Should never have gotten rid of Anton Savage. He struggled at the start when he took over from Ray Darcy but he turned out to be a quality presenter and could easily hold an interesting interview unlike others!

Gonna throw a wild one out there and say Tommy Tiernan could be a decent radio presenter.. his chat show on RTE a few weeks ago was truly remarkable. He's so natural, witty, and easy to listen to.

Tommy used to have a show with Hector - was pretty good.

I really don't get the Anton Savage love-in on here. I quite enjoyed him when he did fill-in slots for Darcy etc but it didn't take long after he got the full-time gig that his flippant persona started to wear. His set-up of items and his general 'world-view' whether intentional or not was sub-Seinfeld 'what's the deal with' guff. He was predictable and worse still often betrayed a lack of empathy. D&D might be rubbish in that slot now but it's just another sort of crap - it was crap already.

Yes, I heard that too during his d&d banter.

It did seem a tad out of context.

Wouldn't surprise me if he is preparing the public for something.....

Feck that, if Ian leaves then thats the end of TodayFM for me, he's the only one I still listen to.

His current contract expires in July

    That's it for him then.
He should go to 2fm, might be a good fit for him.
He'd bring his audience with him.

If Ian does return to RTE, it will be to Radio 1 he'll be going.
