    Cocky?

I would have said he comes across as one of the most down to earth people in the music industry imagineable.

I don't see much of him to be honest but saw him on Graham Norton recently and thought he came across a bit of an arse. Also read somewhere that he said he has no competition in the music industry at the moment only Adele.

Think there's a bigger issue than him through, he's just living off a good PR team and fair play, but i really think it's gone to the stage an awful lot of people cannot think for themselves, music, movies and more worringly news, seems people getting carried away with hype or the latest 'cause' without thinkng, sorry rambling thoughts

I don't really have a dog in the race re Ed Sheeran.

Try to avoid the 'haters gonna hate' phrase though. It comes across as 'I have a position on the question, but I am ill-equipped to articulate it'.

Anyone notice the scar on his cheek.

Apparently he got it at a party in one of the Royal residences last December. Princess Beatrice attempted to Knight him in a drunken stupor and accidentally slashed his face with the sword.

I was saying earlier in this thread that i dont know what he sings. Anyway apparently Noel Gallagher "wont have a bad word said about him".

He was more critical of Jake Bugg because he was disappointed when he found out he uses a co-writer. I have one album by Jake Bugg and I do like it though.

All I'll say is, if I a had teenage daughter, I'd prefer she was a fan of Ed than One Dimension

But the music is the exact same, just one direction are promoted as a boy band, more honest if anything, they are what they are, Ed Sheeran is the not so good looking singer songwriter, so it's ' ok to like him'

The music industry is in a bad way
Ed Sheeran has utterly dominated both the singles and albums charts, breaking several records and - believe it or not - taking 16 positions in the UK top 20 singles of the week.

That's right... every single song - 16 of them - from his new album ÷ made the top 20!

This is a first in chart history - no artist has come close to achieving it before.

In the UK albums chart, ÷ is top after shifting 672,000 copies, the fastest-selling by a male solo artist ever and the third fastest-selling overall in the first seven days - beaten only by Adele's 25 (800,000) and Oasis's Be Here Now (696,000).

In fact, Sheeran's album has sold more than the rest of the top 500 combined.

I've merged the 2 Ed Sheeran threads as it looks like the topics have converged at this stage.

Plus we probably only need one thread about the dude.

Nope nearly sure it's 3rd dimension, Irish trad mixed with mid 90s rave, pure class 😀

Maybe if you stop discussing him perhaps we might forget him. :)

That Galway Girl song makes Mundy's eponymous single sound like Leonard Cohen's Hallelujah.

Ed Sheeran seems like a decent bloke. Ed Sheeran the global superstar musician is frankly insufferable.

He`s not really a big deal in my world.
I`m not a regular radio listener and I stream most of my music, so I choose exactly what I want to listen to.
My own opinion is he`s a very average musician. I honestly think some music mogul thought it was time a ginger got a break and Eddie Sheeran (he has a name like a local butcher) was first in line.
I`ve no doubt Eddies flame will burn bright before it burns out and the next gimmick comes along.

I think Sheeran is ok music wise but compared to the artists and groups of the 1990s he's pretty much average. It shows how much pop music has deteriorated that he seems very good compared to the erstwhile competition.

That fact that Ed Sheeran holds 16 of the top 20 songs in the chart shows how truly crap the chart has become. Truly ridiculous!

Great review of his latest album:

Ed Sheeran sells trite innocence by the pound. He uses bland wisdom and unimaginative music to ponder the basic good and bad in people around him, without once looking inward.

Seems fairly inoffensive stuff. It's everywhere though. He's well liked over here in Holland as well so it's not just an Ireland and UK thing. It's not on the same level at all mind you.

Disagree with people saying he's not talented, he certainly is, as well as being a decent songwriter who writes all his own stuff - a dying breed nowadays sadly. He's certainly got a few tunes I quite like. That said he's not exactly noel gallagher either, i find his stuff very hit and miss and his lyrics are frequently cringeworthy.

He's also really really overplayed to the point of ridiculousness in Ireland. We as a nation excel at that though, we ram certain songs and artists so far down your throat that you're listening to them out of your own arse.

I for one am sick to death of hearing about Ed Sheeran. If it's not his bland music I hear constantly on the radio, or hearing about how some people must have tickets to see him, then it's seeing him in Game of Thrones.

I've also heard that he is coming to The Simpsons. I just can't escape from him !!

He is ginger and not Irish. He is a sight to behold in the average scene so that is why they are popular.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 948 ✭✭✭Muir

I haven't seen Game of Thrones yet, did they fire all the other actors and replace them all with Ed Sheeran or something? You'd think it from the way everyone is going on, and again, it's not the Ed Sheeran fans, it's the people complaining that have it everywhere.
