The Wii U also never had a mass market friendly price. Even to this day, 4 years on.

The Wii was (is) outstanding. Just because there's billions of shovelware crap on it, it doesn't mean it wasn't (isn't) remarkable.

I never said it wasn't. I loved the Wii for its gimmick but that soon wore off. I got sick of motion control very quickly and still HATE it to this day. I'm still putting off playing Starfox on the Wii U because of it!

As I say though I never said it wasn't outstanding. Some games were superb like the Mario Galaxy games for example but what I am saying is that casual off the street, the mobile candy crush player, needs the switch rammed down their throats with marketing and they need a big casual title like the Pokemon Go craze to really give it a fighting chance otherwise I really do see this going the way of the Wii U unless they price drop to handheld prices which I can't see them doing as it wouldn't be financially viable.

Sales in France reported to be 105,000 in the first 4 days, the best start of any Nintendo machine since the 80s. Encouraging, but again too early to read too much into it

And I'm one of them. :pac:

The Wii was definitely lightning in a bottle, or a perfect storm.

Nintendo in my opinion need to stop trying to make that happen again. It's very hard to pull a PS2 or a Wii or even a DS.

So as I posted a few days ago I was having loads of problems with the left joycon (blue neon one). Unless I was 3 ft from the console I was losing contact every few minutes.
I tried the disconnect/restart/reconnect and it would work for about 10 mins and then go again.
So I've no patience for waiting for replacements, so I got out my soldering iron and added a small piece of wire to the board where the blank solder point is on the PCB. Very easy one you have the small trifoil bit for opening the external screws.

Results.... It's perfect, now is working at approx 20 ft away when I sit on my couch to play on the projector rather than the TV. Delighted :D

Jesus. Are you sure it wasn't just that the joycon signal couldn't penetrate your balls of steel?

It's very easy to do. Though I'm no stranger to electronics or a soldering iron. 4 tri screws on the outside,. Lift the battery, it's barely stuck on. Then use a plastic spudger tool too lift the battery connector of the board. Unscrew the 3 small Phillips heads and remove the plastic battery tray then solder on the small piece of wire to the PCB where the empty blob on the antenna track is. Put it all together in reverse order and done. I didn't even split the two sides of it, plenty of ribbon cable to lie them side by side.

Everyone should know how to solder in this digital age.

Ballsy as **** though, fair play for trying it! That's definitely something more people need to try, see if it fixes the issue in most cases.

That's 2 of their last 3 systems in fairness, I like those odds.

Just in time with that new patent a week after launch. Seriously the media are doing a good job of making me pissed off with Nintendo

Haha, if you think about it though I'm only messing with one joycon and they can be replaced on their own for about 45/50.

Definitely fixed it, I've been playing for the last 3 hours with no drop outs at exactly 21ft from my projector/console. I couldn't do 10 mins at 3/4ft in my front room before it.
One other thing that may work is stripping back the coating over the antenna lines on the PCB that juts down along the side of the metal piece. I wonder if there's too much coverage over it on some PCBs?

Snagged a reserve code for a switch and special edition Zelda in town tomorrow. Damn you all for making me spend money!

Aye but definitely fixed for you doesn't mean a definite fix for everyone else, probably not going to be fixed by a firmware update either :D

It would take a good amount of coating to mess with the signal that much surely? It's Bluetooth, which I thought was fairly robust.

Is there an easy way for Nintendo to fix and redistribute the joy cons? I don't know how Sony handled the PS4 pads, I wouldn't be surprised if they just stuck it into a new casing and sold them as new. Nintendo could do the same.

You can't stick a big dirty Switch logo on the front of the patented one though.

They could use common sense and just write 'Nintendo' on it, or, you know, give products proper testing.

The joy con issue is uncommon so fair enough for it slipping by, but there's no justification for not testing is the plastic for the dock hard enough to scratch the screen. You wouldn't even have to test it, these things have scales and methodology for calculating them, surely you'd figure one would scratch the other, and ensure the bloody screen isn't the one getting scratched.

How would then sell you screen protectors then? :)

I know you're joking but it's such a stupid oversight, they've a bad enough rap without giving the unwashed masses another switch to beat them with.

Has anyone found a battery pack that can charge it whilst playing? Recommendations?

From what ive read you need an output of 2.6A which you will need to get a pretty decent battery pack to do.

Ive one that has 3 different USB slots and the highest one is 2.4A but I haven't tested yet if its enough to charge and play at the same time, ill give it a try later and report back.

Nintendo Switch owners complain about dead pixels

Thousands of owners of Nintendo's new console, Switch, have complained about dead or stuck pixels creating distracting and annoying dark squares on their screens.

    I should really complain :pac:

Speaking of BBC again. Posted in the last half hour.

    Controller issues with Nintendo Switch
Nintendo is facing more complaints about its new console, Switch, this time about the controllers failing to connect.

Came across this on Snapchat last night

    HrFsZcu.jpg

    "We're not so sure"

Google it instead of talking ****e then you gob****es.

I actually googled dead pixels and a lot of the results are stuff like "Nintendo says dead pixels on LCD screens are 'normal', but blah blah clickbait".

Now as time goes on I'm becoming more critical of the Switch, especially the bloody dock, but this is just spreading misinformation.

    The Anker PowerCore+ 20100 USB-C does this.
Monster power available from this battery pack.

This is the power bank you want if youre getting one:
    https://www.amazon.co.uk/Portable-Charger-RAVPower-26800mAh-Recharge/dp/B01LZILJQ1/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1488797630&sr=8-1-spons&keywords=power+bank+usb+c+pd&psc=1

Its the only one that gets close to the 15v/2.6a that the Switch power supply outputs. That power bank can output a max of 30w, the Anker one suggested above outputs 15w, thats enough to charge it, albeit pretty slowly.

My switch charges pretty quickly but now it takes a good 10 minutes to go from 92% to 93% and it's been at 93% for ages.

Could this be a problem? It's been charging fine up until last night.

Most electronic devices trickle charge when they get to 80-90% (manufacturer dependant) as it's the most efficient way to charge and keep the health of the battery in tact.

Pssshhh, shure this is a Nintendo only problem, and is the worst thing to happen since, well, Eve got everyone fecked out of Eden.
