Catholic celebrations and St. Patricks day

So why is this still a thing? After finding the ONE(out of how many?) baby mass graves it doesn't tell you everything about religion in this country? Absolutely disgusting and the fact that we celebrate these events such as St. Patrick converting Ireland to Christian is even worse. This mass grave found of ''illegitimate'' babies just makes my blood boil. Yes converting Ireland to a Christian country from pagan was the greatest thing that happened as a free add on you get mass baby graves and priests raping boys. If I get banned for this then that means I there is no freedom of speech whatsoever(any) in this forum. I will probably be labeled as a troll or inciting controversy when the ACTUAL FACTS speak for themselves.

I was hosting a friend here, over from england, one Paddys Day.

That 'night', about 02:30 or so, we were standing outside the local pub when Thomas staggered by. Eyes fixed on some point in the middle distance.

" F**k This! " he uttered. " I'm going home! ".

About fifteen minutes later, the zombie like Thomas staggered back down the street he'd earlier gone up.

" Wrong F**king Way! " He said.

Worth the craic. Just for things like that!

Never saw a priest all day either.

It's half time refreshments during lent. If it's banned ..sure we'll all go mad!

Paddys day was invented by the people ..and we managed to get the religious authorities to believe in it.

Every Paddys day I have a Skin-full ...pay for meself and the local bishop into Dublin Zoo..take him to the reptile house ..Point at the snakes and laugh... HA-HA.

Puke ..faint...and leave him with the bill for the taxi home!

It's tradition.

I traded at a market in Bandon one Saint Patrick's Day.

There was nothing even vaguely Christian about the procession; in fact the manic drummers looked to be high on something very pagan.

Oh and then there was the "How many leprechauns can we register to break the world record" event.

Sure folk went to Mass. But afterwards? Pure pagan.

And historically the real Saint Patrick had almost nothing to do with Rome. The Church then was nothing like it is now.

You need OP to read up on some Irish history!

5th century Ireland especially. Read the Annals; all online free at C.E.L.T

Was not till centuries later when the religious orders invaded the country that things went sideways

Like Christmas Paddies day is no longer a Christian celebration. Paddies day is one of the biggest Irish events in the world and celebrated by millions.

If you are so upset about the abuse go after the organisations responsible and the Irish government is one of them so you have to leave the country as your taxes are supporting this organisation.

But you might run into problems in other countries as if it wasn't a religious organisation then it would be a state institution that committed horrific acts against their people. No European country that had colonies is purr.
The USA, Canada, Australia and New Zealand have terrible records of the treatment of indigenous people. And most of the the rest of the countries in the world are currently treating some of their population terribly.

The church back then was only nominally controlled by rome, the church as we know it came in with the Normans.

St Patrick's Day is no longer a Catholic or Christian festival, rather it's about celebrating Ireland and being Irish.

OP if you don't like it fine but don't presume to look down on those of us that do.

Paddys day is not for Irish Catholics its for all Irish of all faiths and none. I'm not Catholic and have never felt I shouldn't celebrate the day, I'm as Irish as any holy Joe so I will continue to mark the day. It's our national holiday OP, it's nothing to do with religion anymore.

When was the last time St. Patrick was the theme of, or even featured in, the 'St. Patrick's Day' festival? They might as well rename it Diagio pissup day and be done with it.

Society doesn't celebrate St Patrick's day as a religious festival, it's a national day of drinking and a chance for politicians to go on publicaly funded junkets to far away places.

Some older folk go to mass too but they go to mass everyday so St Patricks day is no different.
