Thanks man, but I have my heart set on the neon.

If you're interested I have a Neon reservation code for Argos in Tallaght and in Nutgrove too. I posted a bit further up in the thread with other extra bits and pieces I've reserved in each of them too.

Does this not come with a USB cable in the box to charge it with a powerbank or have I just not looked in the box properly?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 980 ✭✭✭hairball

I'm currently downloading the update :)

It's gorgeous. And is indeed much smaller than you'd imagine from videos.

Good stuff. Enjoy, can't wait to sit down with mine properly later.

Just to mention again I have an Argos (Santry) reservation for the Neon switch if anyone wants it.

Yes, it comes with a USB C cable.

I went in to Smyths Jervis with my boyfriend earlier to collect the Switch; they only had download codes of Zelda left so we got a physical copy and the Pro Controller in Argos. We forgot to get the carry case in Smyths, so we went to GameStop. We had to wait nearly ten minutes to be served, during which one of their employees shouted around the shop about having NES Mini stock. When it was time to pay, the cashier tried to sell us some screen protectors or something, then after saying no twice, she asked if we wanted anything else. I asked about the new Zelda amiibo and she said they were all pre-ordered, which I don't think is the case. Should have just turned around and gone to Smyths, but at least we have everything we wanted now.

I saw that, unfortunately for me I can only make it over to LV or Blanch. :( But thanks for letting me know.

No problem at all. I just don't want anyone to go without one because of me reserving 4 because I couldn't decide if I wanted one or not!

So if anyone else wants these, please let me know.

It's impossible to transfer or backup Nintendo Switch game saves

Saves are tied to the console

Happy Switch Day! Before you run off melting your weekend away playing The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, Snipperclips, Fast RMX, Voez, etc., here is a warning: don't make any progress on a friend's Switch. Nintendo's Switch support page reveals that game save files are written to the internal memory, and are not transferable by any means, Save data can not be copied, backed-up, or written to a MicroSD, so make sure you are playing on your own console.

The support page also explains that digital games are only available on the "active" system tied to your account. To set your Switch as the active console for your Nintendo account, you simply access the eShop. If you wish to access your games from another console, you will first have to deactivate your current system, again via the eShop, before activating the new one.

Forget about it if you want to play games on a friend's console instead of lugging your own around. Even if it is meant to be portable. there are plenty of situations where it would more convenient to just take your game cartridge and perhaps a USB for game saves (if you don't use the "Cloud")  to play at a friend's house. I guess they really want people to carry Switches all over the place, just like in their advertisements.

Tying digital content to an "activated" system is not only a worse solution to preventing mass game sharing than already exists elsewhere, it creates more hassle. Xbox, PlayStation, and Steam tie digital games to the account. Since an account can not be accessed on multiple consoles/PCs simultaneously, this is enough of a deterrent to mass sharing because it would require communication and time scheduling. With the Switch, you have that plus the need to go through a series of deactivating and activating consoles.

PlayStation and Xbox have a similar concept to the Switch's activated system concept, but differ slightly. On each of the three platforms, content purchased on a particular system can be accessed by any account on the console. Furthermore, you have access to any game in the purchase history of any account you log in to.

The problem is thus: what if people just share their log-in information with others, who then download and own the game for free? Xbox and PlayStation solve this by requiring you to be signed in to that specific account to access game licenses; other accounts on the system can not access the game tied to the borrowed account unless you change the owner account's primary system, like the Switch. Xbox One has an extra condition: you must be online to play when playing a game owned by an account not native to your console; a remnant of their own strict sharing policies that were lessened.

Nintendo either didn't think of this convenient solution, or they have purposefully made it even more of a pain in the ass to share games with friends and play digital games on your buddy's console. The latter seems more likely, as it encourages people to buy their own copies to avoid the hassle. Our pain, their profit.

It's absolutely perfect and looks good. Nice big Nintendo Switch logo on the side of it. Each accessory gets its own unique area. The pouch for the Switch itself has the hard case inside it and on the back of the bag is an extra compartment for any other bits you might want to throw in there.

    Recommended.

I got it there too, thanks man, good to see it recommended.

its actually very good quality for 31e, I didnt care for Switch Case part but its fine, instead I also bought the Official Nintendo one as that is the one ill carry around the must :) Got Pro Controller too, its very nice.

It outputs a very large amount of volts far more than your phone likely takes the converse will work but your phone likely recognizes the excess volts and blocks it so it doesnt overload and you know catch fire :P

Switch needs 15v to charge in 3 hours which is what the charger outputs while your phone likely takes 5 volts. Your phone charger will charge the switch but likely in a longer timeframe

Can somebody please post something negative so I don't go mad and buy one of these things

The biggest negative is the lack of noise when you open a chest in BoTW. Unforgiveable!!!!
I was hoping they'd reuse the OoT noise.:mad::mad:

Just picked my loot that I managed to reserve in Argos Blanch.
    Neon Console
    Zelda
    Bomberman
1-2 Switch (last minute decision to buy it)

Probably be 8 tonight before I get to it, but it's way better that the estimated 11-12 March my amazon pre-order had :)

Picked the Switch up this morning and been playing Zelda since. Amazing how little space the machine takes up. The switching from TV to portable is flawless, it's the type of transition that I could see encouraging people who think they perhaps wouldn't use it much in portable to actually do so, it's so streamlined. The Joy Con Grip I'm really surprised how good it is to use, for me anyway, been playing Zelda with it for a good while now and I've enjoyed using it, more than I thought I would. I'm sure the Pro Controller is the ultra choice of course but would be more than happy to play with the grip for quite a while to be honest. Really glad I got the Neon too as well, looks really good.

Haven't tried much of the eShop stuff yet, will get stuck into that later. BOTW is incredible so far and I haven't scratched the surface yet I would say.

are nintendo releasing pokemon on this? thought i heard they where

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,485 ✭✭✭✭Banjo

There's some discussion over on Reddit about this. Basically when it's docked it needs the 15V / 3A or whatever it is but on the go you're good with about 2.4A @ 5V to charge it around as fast as it can use up the power. I could be wrong... I think I was reading this :

    https://www.reddit.com/r/NintendoSwitch/comments/5vy9wt/psa_do_not_charge_your_switch_with_a_powerbank_or/

But ignore the hyperbole about not plugging it in to anything

My switch has the worst WiFi connection imaginable. My phone and all other WiFi devices have full strength/3 bars. Switch has no bars full at all.

LK Dale mentioned there was Pokemon: Stars slated during her flow of mostly accurate leaks, but there's been no mention of it thus far from Ninty.

Would the Pro controller be a much better option than the joycon that comes with it? Seems like an insane price for a controller.

I noticed that too. It has only one bar full when all other devices have a full strength signal.

Can you undock and then update etc beside your access point ?
