I've been threatening to buy one of these for a long time and eventually got around to it. There are so many different designs and manufacturers for a relatively simple piece of kit. I bought the newer version of this one through a Farm supplies shop in Tuam.
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IaD8anuQgII.
After a few minor adjustments it is working a dream. Great job compared to messing with stakes and iron bars.

I've just realised that one animal of ours is 7 months calved and hasn't shown signs of heat that I can see. Wonder if Noddy did a job before he was sold  Though would an 8.5 mnth old ba/lm calf be mature enough? He was certainly mature enough to boo around the place.

If he was physically able to get to her meow he has the job done.

He definitely wouldn't have needed a stepladder! Must get her dipped next time AI man is around.

It's definitely possible I'd say. Had a 5 month old Hereford bull calf that managed to catch a decent sized cow a few years ago. Couldn't really believe it 9 months later when a whitehead calf appeared.

Well it's a toss up between Odd-Ears calf & an 7.5 month old SFL blue. Got caught with an SFL calf before as well tbh, they seem to mature very early.
    5 months though

Got caught out last night. Heard cows rising a commotion around bedtime and went looking with torches to see what was up. Eventually found one with cleaning hanging from her but no sign of the calf. Pitch black, looking for a (presumably) black calf. Had to give up. Still cannot find any sign so am hoping she had it stashed safely somewhere for the night. One occasion when maybe outwintering isn't the easiest. Although if she had been on the outfarm I wouldn't have been any the wiser anyway.
    Find the calf

    Ahhhh what's after happening boards.
When I click back to the main menu on Farming & Forestry an ad pops up at the bottom of the page and what's worse is this ad has sound.
So now i'm getting some woman announcing about compression tights from Scholl.
    Don't like it.

Interesting programme on Rte1 following the lives of four deaf people.

Including one man who was brought up on a farm and became a teacher.

An interesting thing that was said by one of the subjects of the programme.
Hearing people have many different languages but deaf people all over the world have the one language.
    Sign language.

I never thought of that before.
    It's called international sign language.

As far as I know that's not exactly true. A friend is severely deaf and without the use of her hearing aids and lip reading she cannot communicate with other people who have hearing. She told me that the sign that she learned as a child is different to the sign in the UK and some other countries.

The man from Cork who grew up on the farm said this that while there can be local differences in parts of the world in sign. There is an international sign language that allows him to communicate with deaf people from all over the world.
He travells on his own to different parts of the world and says that this is one thing that unites him with other deaf people.

And then call to McDonald's drive-tru for a Big-Mac and chicken nuggets in the way home.
And eating chicken nuggets might count as fasting from meat

You'd have to drive a long way to find a McDonalds drive through in Glenamaddy!!! As the song goes there's 'Four roads to Glenamaddy', which means there's also 4 roads out of it.......... and for good reason!! :D

They say Conemara men are rough but they aren't a patch on some of the lads I've met from that side of Galway!
