Have they attached any advertisement to the podcast yet? This would be the main stream of income I'd imagine.

Nope, it's a sub service. They said in the week before it launched that the move was so they didn't have to advertise and fall into the clickbait culture trap.

And as has been said, if their initial goal is 8K members x €5 a pop per month, thats a very decent income stream to start off with.

Thats provided 8k members sign up and stay signed up though.

I know of a few people who have signed up to pay for podcasts but cut off their subscription not even halfway through the year.

Not because of the lack of content, usually its because they have not got enough time in the week to listen to it all, and see it as an unnecessary expense.

I think this is a stop gap move by the lads whilst they are pondering their next move

I think 8K is conservative and people who are used to their Thursday pod from the lads will try it out at some stage. And for my money, it's worth it.

I can't see them doing both subbing and advertising though.

I think they are well thought out, superbly mixed and pretty hilarious. I also feel that they are an integral part of my enjoyment of the pod since it's inception!!

My fav is the mix Horgan did over Villagers 'Courage' after the Euros. Absolute gold.

Yeah love that one, even when it first came out I was already nostalgic about the Euros. A great 2 weeks of highs and lows.......brilliantly captured in that song. George Hamilton's commentary sounds pretty epic on it as well......"It's Stuttgart.......it's New Jersey"........."a big scalp when it was needed most.........":)

I think they should be only 30 seconds long, anything more than that is too long. I think it's great to do a three minute one, but it shouldn't be played in full every time.

That's just my own opinion, I don't really have the patience to listen through the whole thing if it's too long, particularly if it involves shouting or if the audio is significantly louder than the lads' speaking voices.

The only one I dislike is the "Ken on a train" bit with the Curb Your Enthusiasm music. The whole bit is fantastic, except THEY LEAVE OUT THE BEST BIT at the end when Ken thinks nobody sees him and then gets ridiculed by Raphael Honeigstein (?).

For the sake of another few seconds it would make the whole story.

Agreed. That's the absolute best part of the story. Is there a full version of that story available? Or will I need to go find the pod it first appeared in?

Yeah, leaving out the punchline of the story of Ken on the train is baffling.

If I remember it right the musical sequence was already in place when they interviewed Raphael H which came a couple of weeks after the event.

But Ken himself said that RH was there in the original story.

Just listened to the discussion re. CPA. Murph taking the contrary position to Anthony Moyles was very entertaining, when he wants to be a good journalist he is...

He was totally right though. I don't think he was posturing or false flagging for the sake of it.

The CPA formed in the last few weeks and pretty much expected that the annual congress should shelve a whole raft of proposals..

100% fair enough to seek a seat at the table and commence meaningful discussions but to expect that to happen after a few weeks in existence is ridiculous.

I can't see the logic or the rational behind the expectations of the CPA.

The point about postponing games for lads on a stag was mind boggling. That nonsensical stuff will still exist regardless of what the GAA do in the short term for the inter county game. And changing the rules for county boards to prevent such meddling is going to take A LOT longer than one annual congress cycle.

But yet rejected all proposals out of hand. Crazy stuff.

They've a bit to go in the world of GAA politics.

To make it even more baffling they left the last bit of the story out of the SC annual. The excuse for cutting it on the podcast was due to time constraints so completely baffling why they cut it out of the printed version!

Good bonus pod... worried that there is no mention of guests on the Politics show

Some people might be triggered by the very first episode.

Yawn. About as predictable as Arsenal's seasons these days.

OK discussion. I don't think anyone should be triggered. It was tame enough.

I don't feel comfortable hearing such a one-sided discussion of an outside group (no matter how abhorrent) that aren't given a right to make a counterpoint but I heard some stuff I hadnt before so reasonably informative.

Ken went off track at one stage with a rant about Europe being fine because he's been there and it looked fine but the contributor was very focused and coherent.

Who said there was anything wrong with it? Not me.

Ken did say that if you want a successful news website you need to tell people the news they want to hear. Applies to left and right.

And what if you want to hear both sides? Does that make you right wing?

Usually people only call for both sides when they disagree with what they are hearing.

I'd be fairly on board with both Ken and Angela's PoV on this, but they were practically sniggering about their caricatures of friendless virgins on the alt-right at one point. Angela played a little bit of Devil's advocate after that, I think the discussion was all the better for it.

    Only listening to it now

I don't mind listening to opinions that I don't agree with, I don't even mind biased presenters. The baseline for me is that they at least attempt to accurately articulate what they are arguing against. Ken, when talking politics on the sports show, is serial strawmaner.
