Gym/Exercise - How often?

    Hi All,

I am 5ft 6 and 18 stone. I have been given a food plan which I have been using.
Any advice on how often I should be working out? I would really like to make some changes - My problem with working out is if I take a day off, I automatically become lazy again - I also don't want to be burnt out too quick.

    Thanks

When I started off on my own fitness journey I made it my business to go 5 times a week

I'd take one weekday off and 1 weekend day

After about 6 weeks I was into a solid routine I knew when it was best to rest and when best to push hardest

    That's what worked for me

If you workout hard every day you could pick up an injury. What I do is I don't take a day "off" but I do something light like go for a walk. That way I feel
Like I'm still on my plan psychologically but I don't get so sore I need to take lots of days off. Good luck with your new heathy lifestyle.

It really depends on your goals. So what are they?

Good advice above on your days off do something small go for a walk or cycle or some fun activity you enjoy you dont necessarily need to workout to get some exercise.

I find 2 training days then a rest day is good, simple, easy to track and follow.
If you're training regularly and pushing yourself your body will need the time to recover, no sense ruining the plan by hurting yourself and not wanting/being able to continue, it's a long term commitment you've made.

I started a new fitness journey just 3 months ago. I think it's important to start out slowly because if you are very new to exercise or haven't exercised for a long time you run the risk of injuring yourself. I started working out 3 times a week making sure to have a 'rest' day in between but on the 'rest' days I would go for a brisk walk for 60 to 90 minutes or just do some other form of activity as long as I'm moving. I have now increased my workouts to 4 times a week because I have lost some weight and feel fitter so I can increase the intensity. I also do the walking still and occasionally I have a lazy day which I think is fine. Your body does need time to recover. Find an exercise routine that you can enjoy too so that after your 'rest' day you actually look forward to working out.

60 mins + is a good while, theirs a very good video set called burstfit you could do, combines weights with cardio with a burst at the end. 23 mins a day. You'll be dripping sweat.

Throw in your own warm up = 30 mins+

Its Light weights but alot of reps and every move done has 3 difficulty versions each demonstrated by 3 people on screen so as you get fitter u can do harder version.

Hits different body parts each day.

    Check it out.

I've done alot of vids, all the insanitys, p90xs, etc but have to say Im really liking this. Early in the programme plus 1 from me.
