So, was checking out the new Berserk, only 2 episodes in and I'm not too impressed, but I'll hold my reservations until I've seen the whole series.

    Also checking out Samurai Flamenco.

Yeah, animation is a bit iffy and they've skipped The Black Swordsman and Lost Children arcs.

Hope you persevere with Samuenco, starts a bit dull but gets bats**t crazy by the half way mark.

Is it actually as much of a Titan cash-in as first impressions would have you believe or does it pivot off into its own thing?

There are some base similarities, the whole walled cities thing really but overall no, it is it's own story....just not much of one tbh. It plays out like a short story that's been stretched a couple of hours too long and it's quite repetitive. Titan was much deeper. I guess as an interim project until they could work on AoT-2 it serves it's purpose and despite what I've said is worth a look when you are stuck for something to watch, just don't expect to be wowed.

Rewatching D greyman on funimation with a view to watching the other 50 or so episodes which are subbed.

rewatching Neon Genesis Evangelion for the first time in a decade, fantastic show but i'm noticing more and more when corners were cut in the animation... to make the budget stretch the 26 episodes presumably?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,979 ✭✭✭Mr.Saturn

Do believe they got battered for budget. Dunno if it was Glass Reflection or some other Youtube face that pointed out bits where they took the mick as regards the animation in Eva. Like character covering their mouth while speaking, or that infamous scene where Shinji has second thoughts at the train station.

Watched it for the first time recently. Kinda missed a lot of the fuss about the cost-cutting 'til I copped I was watching the director's cut.

Just don't go onto root A, it diverges from the manga and is pretty poor.

But does season 1 get more violent?

Finished Billy Bat by Naoki Urasawa. Weird but good. I will probably read 20th Century Boys next.

I watched the box set of live action movies based on this.

    That was..... an experience.

Felt a bit like a Japanese Lord of the Rings, not in terms of plot or anything, just because it kinda starts off small and gets epic in scope, but also because there are (iirc?) 3 films and they're all pretty damn long.

I cannot tell you honestly if it was good or enjoyable, just that it was very different and I'll never forget having watched it.

Billy the Bat is like that. Starts with a comic artist in USA hearing his character is a copy of a Japanese one, and it gets crazier and crazier as the manga evolves.

How do ye feel about the Attack On Titan second season coming up? I feel like it can never live up to expectations cause they left it for so long. I did enjoy the first season and have stopped myself from reading ahead too far in the manga but to be honest I feel like S2 might be a bit disappointing :/

If it retains the "33 chapters=1 series" of the first season, then there's roughly two arcs coming up. I feel the opening arc will probably feel like a proper finale to season 1, and easily meet it in terms of expectations. The second arc, however, might require a bit more patience.

Can anyone recommend any current anime? I'm watching jojos bizarre adventure. I was watching DBS but stoped watching after the the multi universe arc. I did see the first ep of AOT but haven't been caught up with the rest of the series.

I've heard about full metal alchemist I just need time to watch it. One Piece is too long. I'm reading the manga instead. I enjoyed death note. I'm about half way through cowboy be bob and one punch man. I would just like to know if there's any other interesting anime to watch.

From the series that you have listed I would suggest Assassination Classroom, My Hero Acadamia and Outlaw Star.

Assassination Classroom is about a class middle school misfits tasked with killing their teacher, whom intends to destroy the world if they fail by the end of the school year. The series is 47 episodes long and covers the entire manga.

My Hero Acadamia is about a boy in a world where everyone has a superpower known as a quirk who is perfectly normal. He idolises the heroes and takes notes about each of them, his life is changed upon a fateful encounter with the top ranked hero in Japan, All Might. The first season is 12 eps long and the second season starts in April.

Outlaw Star is a space western similar to Cowboy Bebop, been a while since I've seen it so am a bit fuzzy on the details to give an outline.

If you do get around to watching FMA I would suggest watching the first 25-26 episodes of the original series then watching from episode 11-12 of Brotherhood. This is because the older series covers the early chapters better than Brotherhood, but goes into original content after the second cour. The original series is still great and has a satisfying conclusion despite diverging from the manga.

Thanks for the advice. I'll check them out. I wasn't sure on were to start with fma but I'll start with the original series.

Indeed, probably my no. 1 pick of the new series this season.

Also enjoying ACCA, its a bit slow but seems to be building up as a solid political thriller.

As for returning stuff, Konosuba is still brilliant despite a drop in animation quality from season 1.

Not a series, but started watching the Professor Layton movie which I recorded on the Sony Movie Channel.
Hate it when dubbed shows or movies keep Japanese text with no translation

Have heard a lot of good hype from it, most seems to be "wait till the 2nd episode, it gets much better".

Only really streaming Konosuba, Nanbaka, All-Out! and Gundam:Iron Blooded Orphans from this season so far. Still a lot from last year I skipped so trying to catch up.

If anyone hasn't watched it, I highly recommend Bungo Stray Dogs, great series.

Gonna be a good year looking forward though:
    -Attack on Titan S2
    -Kekkai Sensen S2
    -One Punch Man S2
-Code Geass S3 (maybe in time for Xmas, maybe early next year)
    -Full Metal Panic! S3 (cannot...f***ing...wait)

First episode drops you in the middle of the action; second episode set ups the actual story arch of what's really going on basically and gives you the background information and motivations.

Watched the first four episodes of My Hero Academia last night and was instantly hooked, I'll probably get through it pretty fast. Season 2 of psycho pass lined up for after that been over a year since I watched the first series.

Prepare to be underwhelmed by PPS2, nowhere near as good as S1. The movie is pretty good though.

Shokugeki no Soma and Nanatsu No Taizai (7 Deadly sins) these are the top 2 Manga/Animes for me

Which sets up the season 2 story arch but you need to watch the after credit stuff to get the full story for it :)

I was happy enough though; it's more in the same style which is what I wanted even if it was only 4 episodes.

Extremely violent, including dismemberment, gore and some deeply disturbing sexual violence.

Start with the 97 series or the Golden Age trilogy, both cover the same material the 3rd movie covers the end of the arc better than the series.

Probably the Eclipse from the end of the series or movie 3. The Eclipse is so graphic in movie 3 that it was originally passed R18(making it illegal to sell outside "adult" shops effectively banning it) by the BBFC before being reduced to an 18s on appeal.

And to make it worse the animated version is toned down quite a bit from the manga.

The story is awesome, but there is no denying that it is completely f'd up.

I just read up on the eclipse and it does sound like the scene I watched on youtube, it was horrific! I agree though it does sound like it has an awesome story.

Gurren Lagann if you haven't already seen it, same creative team as KlK. While Gurren Lagann is a mecha series it doesn't revel in the usual tropes and just like KlK is completely absurd.
