Cheers lads. Was looking at led interior and even flush kits.

    Any other modifications by ye?

Re springs, I was quoted apex suspension at 350e?

I have a set of VWR springs sitting here waiting to fit, along with some spacers.

Thinking about buying some gloss black badges as well to get rid of the chrome plastic look.

Is that €350 for just the springs? I've not heard of anyone using them, therefor I'd stick to what people recommend and get the VWR ones.

I'm trying to talk myself out of this thing of beauty, Revo's new intake.
It's the carbon front panel with extra inlet, Carbon air box lid, panel filter and high flow turbo intake pipe.

I did in the GTI. VWR springs. Improved the looks for sure but the ride was certainly firmer. The R on 19's (standard suspension but a tad lower than standard GTI) rides better.

Any idea where i could go to get them fitted, and a rough price please?

Myself and a buddy (who also had a MK7 GTI) approached a local VW main dealer to get them fitted. From hazy memory (this is almost 3 years ago), fitting them cost me around €250 and the springs themselves cost around the same figure.

I never bothered removing them before trading the car on. The car still looked "OEM".

Was up in Westport at the weekend, spotted two Golf R's, both 161 D reg, a blue one down by the quay and a black one near the golf club.

The more I see of them the more I like them, black is very nice too, they have to have the Pretoria wheels though..

    Anyone from here?

Funny, I was in Westport myself a couple of times last year and on both occasions I saw at least 2 R's. Possibly the same ones you saw. I never see any around my own neck of the woods.

My girlfriend is from there so i'm up there a few times a year.
Always see some nice motors around, there are plenty of wealthy people with holiday homes there too.

If you want any chance of saving your factory warranty then you'd need to get them fitted by a VW garage who will agree to you supplying them. Realistically you need to wave goodbye to your suspension (and related parts) warranty once they're fitted and in this case I'd look at getting the most reasonably priced place you can find to fit them.

Just make sure the place follows the guidelines and replaces the stretch bolts that are supposed to be replaced when doing so. I bought them all direct from VW and it came to €30.05 so not a huge outlay, but at least you'll be doing it by the book.

I did price getting them fitted by a VW garage previously and they quoted 320 quid (an hour per corner according to them). From my own research the fronts are a pain in the arse but the rears are really straight forward.

Get the new springs stripped and powder coated in satin black same as the original springs and nobody would be the wiser.

Yeah, the VWR springs are bright blue :D

But as I said, I had them in the GTI for 2 years (while I had the car), I had them fitted by a VW dealer, I had it serviced with them fitted, I traded in the car with them still fitted and the dealers then had the car on proud display in their showroom! To anyone but GTI anoraks, the car still looked standard. On your hands and knees you'd see the blue springs but you'd be thinking - nice touch VW :pac:
I've seen the dealers sell VWR parts and merchandise too.

That's the main reason I stuck with VWR anyway, they have a tenuous link to VW themselves if there's any questions re warranty... although technically they are not VW.

Anyone who hasn't seen the last episode of the Grand Tour, I'd recommend having a watch. There's a decent segment on the MK7 GTI on it, Clarkson's own car (apparently...)

That segment with it and the i3 were one of the few watchable ones in that series

The car looks very well in it too. It's a 5 door carbon grey on the 19's.
He does the usual nonsense moaning about the voice control not working properly but other than that it's a nice segment.

There's a drive of the facelift GTI and a feature on the future of the Golf in this month's Car magazine for anyone that's interested.

Those new alloys look like bad Austin reps (and that's not a compliment in itself either :P ).

They're shocking... so it makes stumping up for the 19's a must have option. And I'm not crazy about the 19's on offer either. It'd have to be the brescias.

I'd be ordering the car with the cheapest wheels from the factory and then buying some pretorias or bbs/oz from German eBay.
IMO any of those new design diamond cut wheels are cheap and nasty looking.

My first time posting in this thread. I've been lurking in the UK GTi forum reading about the new GTi and the PP.
I like the facelift but don't like these new wheels; didn't like the austins either mind.
There is an option of 18" Pretorias on the VW.de configurator but not available here. Would it be possible to spec them with VW Ireland? At what cost? They're available from VW individually at €289 a corner, rim only.
Also, the option to remove the Active display isn't available here either, compared with Germany or the UK.

I wanted to get a PP last July but they weren't available for 162 order so holding off not for the Mk7.5 one.

Are there Pretoria reps available too? If these are reps on this car they look pretty good

€289 a corner? No chance you're getting genuine VW wheels for that. The 19" Prets are around €1100 a corner! The Austins are definitely 6-700+.

Generally speaking I've found VW irl good for optioning factory equipment that isn't officially available. You'll need to do the leg work and find the correct option codes. Give the option code to the dealer and ask him to check if it's feasible...

Yeah there's reps out there, I've seen them crop up on eBay and I've seen other cars like that on DoneDeal (usually Norn Iron registered diesel yokes).

You'd be crazy to put reps on a new car imo.

I agree, but it's probably only a matter of time before they are on every second felter in the country:D

I'd nearly agree with Neil, spec the car with cheapest wheels and upgrade to some nice BBS's or the likes.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,106 ✭✭✭dar83

I'd never put reps near any car to be honest, but definitely not a car that's new or 2-3 years old!

I've been window shopping on wheels for a while now and I have a shortlist of wants. Just need to see how things go and I'll pull the trigger on something at some point. I was sold on the Neuspeed RSE10's until Brexit completely screwed the price of them up and they became nearly the same cost as a set of BBS. Kind of a no brainer in choice then...

The cheapest wheels on the GTI will be those 18's... cheapest as in "free" :pac:
