I can't believe in this day and age there are still console vs console debates.

It's a very simple breakdown for me and has been for a while. Nintendo systems for Nintendo games. PS4 (or PC if I had one) for everything else. If both of these areas interest you, buy both consoles. If you can only afford one, buy the one which interests you the most. This isn't difficult.

There are two particular arguments which keep coming up which don't hold water. Firstly while you could argue that Nintendo has the better exclusives, they don't have the Witcher, GTA, Dark Souls, Fallout etc. so those third party games may as well be exclusive to the PS4. This 'Exclusive' tag is completely over emphasized.

Secondly is people getting irate at the Switch's launch line-up. Don't like the releases? Don't buy the console. On the other hand, buy the console and enjoy Zelda. Then wait a couple of weeks to pick up Fast RMX. Wait another few weeks to pick up the definitive version of Mario Kart 8. A short while after will see the release of Lego City Undercover which needs to be played by all. Splatoon 2 soon follows and then Mario Liberty City at the end of the year.

If I wasn't a Wii U owner I would be all over this. For now I will take the wait and see approach, especially since the 3DS is still releasing great titles.

I agree there is no debate. Most "gamers" own multiple consoles. Personally if I had none right now I'd go PC and Switch but I own a ps4,360, laptop, vita etc so it's when do I buy and what justifies the purchase?

But bear in mind there are those who will buy only one console. Friends of mine have a ps4 FIFA and COD. These are not a small amount of "other gamers" let's call them. It's hard to convince these to buy a Switch and I don't think the launch line up will help that.

Then there's the casual, Wii was obviously a huge market share here but hasn't been replicated since and mobile devices has not helped here. I'm yet to be convinced that they'll break this sector. That said if they truely did want this market share they would have released Pokemon on day 1. Ride the Pokemon go coattails while its fresh in people's minds. Not in a years time or whenever.

Then here's Nintendos own market. You even say you'll wait as you own a 3DS. Kids are a big one for Nintendo but what makes a parent but this if the kid has a 3DS? As a parent I wouldn't (I might cause I want it, lol).. Seriously they're trying to compete with themselves. Odd.

And wait a few weeks and get Mario Kart that I already own, Lego city undercover which I already own, Splatoon 2 which I'm sure will be good but I already own Splatoon 1 which it looks very very similar to.

If you didn't buy a Wii U there is a good start to the Switch. However if you own a Wii U in my opinion it'll be Xmas before there's anything worth your time which is a shame.

I'm just not feelin this hype train for Nintendo. I think they've done better marketing wise but they really need to get the games out that will sell the system instead of the Absoultely bare bones launch that this is.

I think the one thing to consider is that strictly speaking they don't really need to go all out at launch. Regardless of the launch line up the initial stock is going to sell out. There's probably little point in having multiple amazing titles at launch and then coming up short later in the year it won't really boost sales.

A much better strategy imo is to stagger the releases over the year as they seem to be doing and then aiming to have a big holiday period with Mario and one or two other big titles hopefully revealed at E3. This could potentially have a much bigger overall impact on sales long term. Of course none of this might happen and they could struggle again.

Personally I'm getting it at launch with Zelda. I'm starting studying for professional exams literally the Monday after release so along with working full time my game time is going to seriously reduce over the next year or 2. The Switch is going to really help me get some time in when I can just take it with me and continue my games. Having one big game at launch and then one new biggish release every couple of months is perfect for me.

At the same time I can definitely understand people playing a wait and see game. Hopefully Nintendo will go all out for Christmas to convince you and others to invest.

There's a pretty good argument for not getting it at launch. Early adopters tend to get the relative short end of the stick. You could say that with almost literally any console or piece of technology though. Wish I'd waited for the PS4 personally. got it at launch and there was hardly anything worth getting at launch, there was a whole bunch of great deals and bundles not long after launch.

I didn't buy the WiiU, PS4 or XB1 at launch.
I waited about a month for the WiiU, I waited a good 6 months for the PS4 and a year before buying the XB1 and, I have to say, I missed out on nothing of consequence.
And, in the example of the PS4 and XB1, I played for more of the PS3 and 360 in the year following their purchase even then.

You're aware the Wii U has a massive indie selection and can be played in bed....right?

yes I'm aware thanks just because something can do it doesn't mean that something new can do it better which the switch will as it not just limited to my bed or my house for that matter

playing games in the loo at work

By the way Miles, you were asking about cases and accessories the other day.
Guy on reddit dug up pics of the inside of the official carry case.

Everyone has agreed that there is absolutely no reason to buy a Switch in year one if you have a Wii U ;)

Will I create a forum called Nontendo for the naysayers? The vocal minority (and they are the minority) are really trying to kill the buzz in this thread.

The tables should turn in 3 weeks.

I'm disgusted I had to cancel my pre-order. I just feeling that in 12 months till I get one there will be more on offer for a filthy casual like myself.

Also, my car was way down on power yesterday and I've been told that the turbo has to be replaced so no switch either way.

Last I checked this was the Switch discussion thread. I wasn't aware it was only meant to be a positive discussion.

By all means create a "I'm getting a Switch day one and am so excited!" Thread though!

This is a Nintendo forum and a Switch thread which would have a trend towards positive vibes for the new console.
But there are those who take an alternative view, and air it on this thread.
    But let them.
If their points of view held any sway we'd see more agreement, and I don't think any preorders have been cancelled due to those negative points.
Not only that but I don't think any have brought anything particularly new to the debate either.
    So, let them vent.
I'm ultimately happy to spend my money on a new Nintendo console.
I'm not too happy to have others describe that as foolish.
Let them spend their few bob whatever way they like, buy a Switch now, in a year or even never, what difference does it make to the rest of us anyway.
Constructive discussion is always welcome, discussion only seeming to insult, not so much, and I think the moderators have said as much.
Plus, those who seem to enjoy churning things up for the sake of it are hardly regulars. Once they've had their fun they'll be on their way.

I have the 3DS one. They're very nice alright, well put together, nice materials etc, but this time around I prefer the look of the Ninty one.

Oh, jesus, how I'd love to have time to worry about playing ALL the best games on ALL the best consoles.

Dig this, I love Nintendo's best games.

I also love many PS and Xbox games. Loads of them.

But I have f*ck all time these days, so a new Nintendo console is the only thing I'm unashamedly willing to commit time & cash to.

So bring it on. If you dig other stuff better, brilliant, enjoy it.

Me, my cold beer, and Hyrule are ready for midnight, March 3rd. And, baby, we're gonna enjoy it.

That is very similar to my dream case, I want something I can open whilst its in my bag. Not something with zips that opens out like a book.
