Happy enough with the draw although it sounds like we could have won, winning our home games now should have us in a good position .

Kildare who hammered Meath today next up in Newbridge so it seems we have our 2 toughest games first.

Ye were very wasteful. A lot of possession and a lot of wides. In contrast, Galway far less possession and not many wides at all.

Taken this from facebook, Worth a read if your following the Cork lads involvement in the Fitzgibbon

    Irish Gaa Banter Page
    Fitzgibbon Cup Round 2 Roundup
    Thursday, February 02, 2017
    (A) 19.00 ITC 0-18 v Mary I 0-18
    (A) 14.00 GMIT 0-10 v DIT 3-15
    (B) 14.00 UL 2-21 v NUIG 2-12
    (B) 14.00 DCU St Pats 0-10 v CIT 3-15
    (C) 19.00 Trinity 1-8 v WIT 4-15
    (C) 19.00 DCU 0-15 v Limerick IT 2-12
    (D) 14.00 UUJ 1-7 v Maynooth 4-23
    (D) 15.00 UCD 1-5 v UCC 1-8

    A
    Mary I (+21): W D - DIT (A)
    ITC (+12): W D - GMIT(A)
    DIT (+2): L W - DIT (H)
    GMIT (-35): L L - MaryI (H)
Mary I seem to have the top position in Group A wrapped up unless IT Carlow can overturn their 9 points deficit in points difference. It wouldn't be a surprise for IT Carlow to beat GMIT comprehensively, however we feel that Mary I will beat DIT by anything up to 10 points. IT Carlow would therefore need to beat GMIT by 20+ points to claim top spot. Mary I score 2-31 against GMIT so it is possible to do.

    B
    UL (+22): W W - DCU Pats (A)
    NUIG (+2): W L - CIT (A)
    CIT (+1): L W - NUIG (H)
    DCU P (-29): L L - UL (H)
UL will claim top spot here in group B, light a candle for DCU St.Pats the night before this one. Group B is all about who can claim second place and take the second quarter final spot. It really is 50/50 between CIT and NUIG. CIT will have home advantage but NUIG wont take much notice of this. We can't pick a winner in this one and it is probably the match of round 3.

    C
    LIT (+29): W W - WIT (A)
    WIT (+9): L W - LIT (H)
    DCU (+4): W L - Trinity (A)
    Trinity (-42): L L - DCU (H)
LIT will more than likely claim top spot in Group C bar WIT beating them and DCU hammering Trinity by 26 points. It is safe to say DCU will beat Trinity easily so if LIT beat WIT they will knock them out. It is possible that WIT beat LIT. LIT are defiantly strong favorites in this one. Every match is a knockout from here on in for WIT. If WIT beat LIT they also need DCU not to overtake them on points difference. Our predictions are LIT top the group and DCU get second place.

    D
    UCC (+21): W W - Maynooth (A)
    Maynooth (+17): L W - UCC (H)
    UCD: (+5): W L - UUJ (A)
    UUJ: (-43): L L - UCC (H)
UCC will also claim top spot here with a win over Maynooth. Maynooth wont be any pushovers but we expect UCC to have too much firepower. UCD will also beat UUJ quiet easily and claim second spot.

    IGBP Current Power Rankings R1 & R2
    Overall: 1:LIT 2:UL 3:UCC/MaryI 4:Maynooth 5:IT Carlow
    Offence:1:UL 2:MaryI 3:LIT 4:IT Carlow 5 Maynooth
    Defence: 1:UCC 2:LIT 3:UCD 4:WIT 5:DCU

    WoodenSpoon Race
The Current leaders of the wooden spoon race are UUJ followed closely by Trinity college then in third place is GMIT.

    IGBP Predicted QF's 14th Feb
    1. (1D) UCC vs DCU (C2)
    2. (C1) LIT vs UCD (D2)
    3. (B1) UL vs IT Carlow (A2)
    4. (A1) MIC vs NUIG/CIT (B2)

Any word on the challenge game the hurlers played in CIT yesterday v Wexford? A heated affair by all accounts.

Was in Salthill for the match - CONeill was outstanding when he came on - only minor quibble was he rushed the free at the end - he was well capable of putting it over and taking the points - as well as all the wides and short shots we missed at least 2 sitters of goals - we need to be more clinical when those chances present themselve - great to see Aidan back in the middle and the effort from the lads was great - good point but should have been 2

Heard the hurlers had to train in Cobh's second pitch last night due to CIT being used for a fresher game. Shocking.

Shocking organisation on managements part or poor out of CIT? They've numerous pitches there, I'm assuming it wasn't just a freshers game, rather numerous CIT teams that kept them from using the facilities?

To be fair if at least that pitch was available, they would have had no issue!

Very little experience in the Cork full back line.. Keep trying these fellas out too I think. No point in giving them only one game and dropped. Haven't seen a lot of these Cork younger players in action...

Criost Ri and Tralee draw again in somewhat controversial circumstances, ref chased from the field

    Who chased him?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,351 ✭✭✭zetecescort

Presumably Criost Ri supporters. Ref played 2 min over the announced injury time and gave Tralee a soft free to level it. Apparently the same ref that failed to send off a player for a yellow and black card against Criost Ri a few years ago forcing the game to be replayed

Sounds like a good win for Cork. I didn't see any of it as I do not have Eir sport. Can anyone who saw it, tell me more please?!!

They were brilliant, but Clare were also really bad. The young fellas brought in including Luke Meade, The entire full back line and the corner forward were brilliant, really really brilliant. Seamus Harnedy was average at best and Horgan couldn't catch a cold. Anthony Nash was outstanding, saved a penalty and kept us in the game for most of it.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,351 ✭✭✭zetecescort

enjoyed that. as Mahoney said all the new lads did really well, particularly Mark Coleman who hurled an amount of ball and Luke Meade worked really hard and chipped in with a couple of points too. Daniel Kearney was outstanding too.

Main concern would be the amount of goal chances Clare had, Tipp or KK won't butcher as many.

Very enjoyable game from a Cork perspective. Fitzgibbon played very well, was that his debut?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 216 ✭✭N20

Great to get the win, although Clare were very poor

Coleman outstanding, and Kingstons looks dangerous every time on the ball, although his finishing left him down a few times

Fitzgibbon is such a work horse, the amount of running he does in a game is unbelievable, likewise Meade was impressive, reads it well, with a lovely touch, and whereas I though Griffin started well, he looked in trouble a few times in second half

Early days for all these young lads but definitely a flicker of hope for Cork

Hoggy very disappointing, he might start looking over his shoulder - there are lads on his heels

Kildare 0-8 Cork 0-3 HT. No Cork score from play, Kildate with a heap of wides too. We are being over run

    Kildare 1-9 Cork 1-6 after 50min

Could be looking at best div 2 again next year, if they aren't careful could end up in Div 3

I actually wouldn't mind being put into Division 3, just so the board realise that football in Cork is ****ed.

14 or 15 wides again this week. as ever with the footballers you'd wonder what the coaches are doing during the week

remember the chairmans comments at the annual convention, the board couldn't care less

You'd see mosr intercounty teams handpass the ball from mass defence on the counter . Why Dublin are so good, they have players that Will kick for scores not half afraid.

Chairman made it quite clear the footballers had to up it or the management would get the bullet. The hurlers, after a worse season, got a free pass. Hardly the comments of someone who cares less.

For the me the footballers are bog average Div. 2 side atm. Most of the football supporters I know rate them far higher and relentlessly blame the manager for the failings.

i'd love to know what our kerry coach travelling from dublin is doing with them in fermoy twice a week? This team is in freefall and is full of nice footballers complimented by a manager whose record suggests he isnt at this level. Again lack of fight and bottle from so many today cleaned again on breaking ball
