I saw the film and thought it was pretty good, it's a perspective that I personally hadn't seen represented in film before (African-Americans who are essentially very privileged navigating their racial identity during young adulthood, and the tensions and interactions specific to that context which occur between them and their white friends). It was very obviously the work of a young and fairly inexperienced filmmaker but there was enough there narratively and stylistically to make me interested in what he'd do next: it wasn't a case of just pointing a camera at people and having them explain to each other very clearly what the themes of the film were, which is a trap a lot of people fall into.

The character in the trailer is a mixed race woman with a white parent, it's explored in the film how she's essentially overcompensating for her ethnicity through the whole 'Dear White People' thing, and the plot of the film largely revolves around how other black and white characters react to that rhetoric in different ways. It was a thoughtful examination of how and why things like blackface parties end up happening semi-regularly in US campuses. The racial situation over there is a unique and interesting and fraught one, I'm not sure how it's going to work as long form story telling but I'll give it a look.

Or y'know, that's what I took away from it. Waaaaa it's so unfair being white, boohoo double standards, I haven't seen this but I'm offended is another take I suppose.

Judging by the like ratio others agree.
What's the story with Irish people on the likes of Boards and Twitter whose personalities seem to be completely consumed by American culture and politics? It's gotten really weird.

People live on the internet these days. It's a sad reflection of where society is heading. Most 6 year old's know how to work an iPad these days

Yeah but they're black so it's racist for me to like them because I'm a straight, white male! Damned SJW's strike again!!!

Undeniably immature and idiotic but don't pretend you're actually offended by it

As a straight white male, it does sometimes feel like I've been lectured enough as to why I'm part of the problem. It's probably why I won't rush to watch this show.

That said, I also realise that I've had an easier ride of it than many others, and just because I haven't stood in anyone else's way doesn't mean they shouldn't give voice to the issues and frustrations that affect them.

Netflix have done a masterful job promoting a show based on a decent enough indie film.

Anti white garbage and it should just be called out for what it is. Open season since Trump won the Presidency. If the title was the other way uproar would ensue. Pathetic race baiting nonsense.

Give a phone to a two year old and they'll figure it out before they can even speak to ask how it works.

Why would there be uproar? What would the narration over that trailer be?

I miss the days when T.V was nothing more than three priests living on an island.

I'm literally shaking right now. I am going to boycott this media that I would have never otherwise watched or heard about.

I was the one who started the thread complaining about the Real O'Neales. It is nearing the end of its 2nd season now but the ratings are steadily dropping thanks be to God.

I don't see anything wrong dressing up as a favourite character who is black but not just dressing up as ''a black person''. I think I would find that a bit insulting myself. I'm slightly curious to know how many other things she has a rant about, assuming that's what the series is about. I'm not quite interested enough to watch any more of this.
Smacks of a series about someone with little else to worry them.

He sorta looks like 'white people' to me, in which case this series must be sorely lacking in irony, but since he is white people, I heartily endorse his sentiment, he can go £$% himself.

It looks to me like it's nearly always the white people who do the agitating and strife sowing. Like our own white-privilege obsessed feminist newspaper columnists. I never hear any of this angry bitterness from black friends or family.

I unsubscribe last week and noticed they didn't ask why, which is unusual. I usually watch for a couple of months, then unsub to let them update the content.

I would have unsubbed after seeing that video and now I won't even remotely feel guilty about downloading their content. One shan't be back this time.

Hmmm, pretty sure that graph is actually white people saying saying "**** MTV. **** Instagram. And **** Jack Moore too" But I guess he is doing his bit by putting out a show like this as part of the Democrat effort to get back in touch with the heartlands.

The Democrats are hugely wounded by being associated with a movement which seems determined to alienate the biggest group of voters in the US.

Aye, It's happing all over the USA. Comic books for example marvel are failing due to telling their major purchasers they are the Issue. They took on a load of Feminised Writing staff and alike. And wonder why the Comics are tanking. Films are fine as they stick to the same old same old.
