Are the prices out for the facelift gti yet?
Dealers might give you a better deal for your own versus a new car. The Apr is often lower too and dealer has some margin on the new car.
Not to mention it will be 171 and full warranty etc.
Also will be a better car for resale.
I would attempt to get a deal on the facelift gti over the Seat if I was you.

They opened for ordering in the UK last week so I expect they are available to order here too or very soon will be. Haven't seen anything re specs or pricing for here yet though.

If you're contemplating the Cupra route see what you can get a new one for. I was offered one during the summer at a ridiculous discount. Was doing 1k a week then so couldn't bring myself to do it. But with the facelift coming soon there's going to be ones they need to shift. Might be a lower APR rate on a fresh reg.

They're not that bad for getting the power down but on a damp road they'll still struggle at times. Was much better behaved than I thought though. The big thing for me would be the interior. If it was against anything else in the class you'd think it's decent (did 60k in that shape FR and had little to complain about) but the Golf has the nicer interior. There's going to be little things that will constantly nag at you. Build is fine but some of the materials low down are a bit nasty and other parts can look a little unfinished. Less sound deadening too.

This would probably make more sense than the Seat. It's further down the depreciation curve but still pretty fresh.

I just found this vehicle on Carzone.ie http://www.carzone.ie/used-cars/volkswagen/golf/used-2015-151-983571983515-dublin-fpa-2217762057154343411

That R as been up for sale for ages, potentially even as far back as when I bought my own GTI as I remember the pictures.

Looks like it's being used as the owner/salesmans car but is also able to be nabbed at the right price. Nearly sure when I last looked it had in or around 10k on the clock.

That dealer always seems to take pictures of his stock with the car positioned in exactly the same place. So maybe it was a different R ;)

Spot on - he does. But I'm sure it's been there a while. They had 2 white ones in fact.

I went to see the guy. Didn't like him - came across as if he thought he knew best what I wanted.

Well it was a manual 151 in white...

Could have been a different one I guess. ;)

One of my pet peeves about salesmen. " Ah what do you need that for, what do you need this for blah blah " When i go to order a car i know exactly what i want not what the salesman wants

Exactly, when I was shopping around I was told the same, don't buy this, that isn't worth it. Feck off, I'll buy exactly what I want lol.

In the UK there is no sign of the 1.5tsi engine in the initial model line up

"What does this fella want a white 3 door hatchback for FFS :D"

To play devils advocate, the salesmen are more used to dealing with punters coming in who don't know what they want, who don't know one end of a car from another... so they have it ingrained in them to steer the customer away from buying something totally unsuitable and un-saleable 3 years down the road.

That said, they should also recognise when they have a well clued in customer in front of them too. Some of them do to be fair.

Interesting, Thanks for posting. Any link to a product guide yet?

I see there's no PP GTI listed (yet) and the manual R is in a higher tax band than the DSG. WTF! Possibly because the DSG has the 7th cog now.

GTi gone from the 280 band to 390 too, not that it matters too much when spending 40k on a car.

    This is Ireland, it matters.

All the new wheels are terrible with the exception of the Pretoria's and these aren't available for the GTi, bad move from VW imo.

At a glance, standard specs look good, more or less on a par with today's cars with the addition of the digital dash "active info display".

The Cadiz are gone from the R, replaced by another fussy looking set of diamond cut wheels. I'd still opt for the prets...

18" alloys and leather heated seats now back on the options list for the Highline. No 1.5 litre TSi from launch either.

The PP is generally unavailable internationally - it sounds like it might be another month or two. Possibly something to do with shoehorning the new gearbox and the VAQ differential into the same car.

I think i'll be holding out for the release of the PP, but I assume it's roughly a ~2k premium on the non-PP.
Will be interesting to see if the PP DSG is in a lower tax bracket to the non-PP DSG, since the PP will come with a 7-speed gearbox instead of the old 6-speed.

It's annoying that the options aren't priced as I was hoping to price up a non-PP model spec'd as I want, then estimate the adder for the PP.

I think it'll have to be the Brescias - the Milton Keynes alloys look about as attractive as Milton Keynes (in saying that, the MK's seem to look a bit nicer in the flesh in some of the videos on youtube than they do in the configurators).

Yeah I'd seen the PP wasn't launched in the UK either so it's probably as you say.

The options list isn't that extensive (as the standard spec is fairly good), but I'd expect the option prices to be ballpark similar to what they are (or were). So, for example...
    leather - ~ 2k
    top spec Nav - 1k
    DCC - ~1k
    19's (GTI) - ~700.

The "innovation pack" is down there for 600 quid but I wouldn't be surprised if that's thrown in or heavily discounted in 172 / 181 specials...

The Brescias are OK-ish. I've seen them in the metal on a Clubsport. Better than the 18's anyway.

The tyre specs on the optional 19's for the GTI must be wrong? 225/40 series rubber on the standard 18's and 225/55 on the optional 19's?

    Must be a typo.

The same engine and gearbox combination in the Audi s3 s tronic puts it in the 390 euro tax bracket here. I had expected the R with dsg would have been likewise.
Would have meant less vrt and better price possibly.

Why is an slarm still not standard on the golf. Climatronic standard on highline here while option on the gt spec in the uk. I posted the uk spec a couple of posts back do must do a compare .

    Standard on the R only.
The more worrying part is no alam == no deadlocks.

Generally speaking, Irish spec is far better than UK spec now.

Even the comfort line and high line spec on the uk s and se have alarms

I believe it's likely down to insurance requirements in different jurisdictions. UK insurance co's probably insist on alarms as it brings the car into a lower insurance bracket. The insurers here may not care so much to make optioning it worthwhile.
I reckon potential buyers are drawn quicker to fancy alloys / sat nav rather than a standard alarm...
