The wind and rain today will be a big blow to the muppets in the race to be on the front page of the journal with the cows out this Thursday, or were they on it last Week?

    LMAO

Have a few cubicles here not roofed yet . Cows have access to them and an existing shed. On a really wet day like today they all lie in the roofed shed but if it's anyway middling weatherwise they don't seem bothered.

Won't be out till march here due to land type and being a bit laxadaisy .

Probably more chance of ending up on the front of one of the tabloids if I ever go back on the beer

My niece said I must get umbrellas for the heifers out on the kale. Parlour and sheds separate here, after milking cows go back to shed but on dry days they'd lie down outside it or sometimes come up with new ways of opening gates....

Pm done finally. 1st year I've properly paid myself. Between all drawings, like for my dad also they come to 10c/l. Sobering enough that they are that high, anyone calling likes of 20c/l their cost of production must love beans on toast every day of the week ha.

I'm having beans and burgers again tonight :/

Lads 46% of herd calved and 6% went down with milk fever. Never have it so bad. No change in dry cow mineral. There are slightly flesher than other years.
Any of ye with milk fever?
using bottle under skin on any older fleshy cows. The two that went down we're 2012 born with three lactation done.

Maybe a higher rate than normal alright. Anything I can do to counteract this? Feed straw or paddock bale silage that got no slurry. Pit is 72dmd

Put some straw in and make sure call mag levels and lime are right..talk to a nutritionist or someone at agritech. Milk fever is very fixable and can be sorted quickly.

An old cure would be not to milk suspect cows out fully for the first couple of days

Young cow calved at 3am this morning no problems and up and about. Went to milk her at seven and she couldn't get up. Vet out then. She was up for a few hours. She ate 3kg dairy ration morning and evening. Milked her mid day. Purposely left clusters on her for bare minute so as not to milk her out and she down again there again. Vet out again. Two mag bottles into vain. She didn't get up yet but is bright and alert

We used to have an issue with that even a week after calving
Get straight magnesium and dust silage of the cows that are 7-10 days away

This won't help your current problem.

But does anyone here spray the grass crop with magnesium when growing for silage?

Thinking about it here as have spread lime this winter.

Be careful not to overload on calcium as too much can cause heart problems
