I see the pic now says 'includes football' on it too. Could be switching to just one show maybe?

Daily show covering everything, including football?

Interesting that they have a "second captains world service logo" at the bottom (see attached).

I wonder if it means live broadcasts? (ala twit or other podcasts that record live?)

They must be leaving the IT, new pic for the podcasts on iTunes and called The Seconds Captain's Podcast now

Daily podcasts where you pay a fiver for access. Calling it Second Captains World Service. They will still be doing the Monday/Thursday ones for free.

Richie Sadlier will be presenting one of the pods.

It's still The Irish Times on soundcloud...

    https://soundcloud.com/secondcaptains-it-com

@IrishTimes is still on their twitter profile...

    https://twitter.com/secondcaptains

& they still have their webpage on The Irish Times site...

    http://www.irishtimes.com/sport/second-captains

I doubt if they were leaving The Irish Times they announce on a Friday that they have great news that they will announce on Monday...drum roll...wolf howl..."We're leaving The Irish Times!!!!"

It would be a bit more diplomatic...We would like to thank The IT...etc..etc

Edit: Ignore this - bad timing :o

Is the fiver a one off fee? Are the extra days just soccer?

Fiver for one week worth of podcasts beyond the free ones ?

I wish them well, but I won't be paying a fiver a month.

Monthly subscription. They didnt actually say what the topics of the new pods would be. Can't imagine they will be all sport

Thanks for that, can't see me paying it to hear their political views. Best of luck to them though hope it works out well.

They said the topics will be driven by the subscribers

I'II give it a couple of months, I need more content anyway and I didn't get the annuals as I'm not interested in them but happy to support this way instead. Too much rugby and I'm out though!

I'll pay up for a bit and see how it goes, the boys have provided me with hours and hours of content over the years for free, so I'll give them some support.

Yeah, I'll defo be getting on board with this.

Hopefully room for more niche sport bits now.

if they promised not to talk about GAA or Rugby I'd pay them a tenner a month.

If it's not the lads just waffling on about politics then I'd definitely be interested. Certainly worth a few months subscription.

Best of luck to them but I've never paid for a podcast and I won't be starting now.

They've gone a bit stale lately imho....will be interesting to see how this works out

Ah that's a pity. Now if it was part of say an IT subscription then I could see this being beneficial.

Hopefully they don't turn their free shows into advertisements for the paid for episodes though...

That's my thinking too. A fiver for roughly 20(?) shows each month is pretty fair I would say.

That's the thing for me too, I only ever listen to the Football Show and have no interest in the general one. How many of the extra shows will be Football only ones, or will Football be mixed in with everything else?

Some mention of it being driven by subscribers so they must have some polling element for the content. I guess football will be a big vote winner!

for a €5 a month I will defo be joining and supporting them anyway

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 51,342 ✭✭✭✭That_Guy

It's hard to know what exactly they'll be covering that isn't included in the main/football free shows.

I imagine it'll be a lot of in depth interviews but I'm not entirely sure if that's something I'm willing to pay for even if I do agree that McDevitt is probably one of the better interviewers in the country.

I used to enjoy their OTB days when they would delve into niche sports but again, how many people would subscribe to a podcast that focuses on sports nobody watches.

Bit of a kicker that it won't be available on my podcast app though I'm assuming there'll be a work around with adding in RSS feeds.

It depends on what type of content they're offering. I can't see myself jumping at the opportunity to pay a fiver even if I do really wish the lads well.

They'll have a little bit of football on these extra pods, then it will be just filler of Rugby and GAA. Plus their unchallenged political beliefs, all for an extra €5 a month.

Even if you do subscribe, you'll still have to listen to them try to flog subscriptions on the regular shows.

I wonder did all these future plans have anything to do with how much they seemed to be phoning it in as of late. Well, I thought they didn't seem as bothered as usual.
