My Ideal Today Fm line up

Early morning: Paula Mac and Muireann
    Breakfast: Dempsey
    Mid Morning:Will Leahy
    Lunch: D&D
    Afternoon: Foley Ann and JP
    Late Afternoon: Matt Cooper TLW
    Evening: Anotine McSavage
    Night: McLoone

There is a better chance of Howard Stern joining Today fm than Will Leahy

The only Today FM presenters in a RTE R1 dominated top 20 is Ian Dempsey and a certain Anton Savage......

Anton's Book on book for 2016Q4 is -2,000 (granted his year on year is poor). But was the trigger pulled too fast?

I really think Today are struggling and the new line up is not whats needed.
Alison Curtis with 5k more listeners than Matt Cooper?

Have I gone down the rabbit hole:confused:

    Not a hope.

According to Phil Cawley, it was gotten rid of because it giving the station an older sound, so the chances of that returning are next to zero.

So if you're over 35 good luck,we went the younger generation,it's a shame as the 80's had the best selling music of all time big mistake Phil

Should point out, Phil was opposed to this move.

But on your point, if you're over 35, then you're not the audience Today FM want for their station, so yeah, tough luck. It's how things work. I don't complain that CBBC isn't showing Game of Thrones, I don't complain that Spin aren't doing poetry readings or live dramas. You can feel aggrieved that there isn't a station that caters to you, but holding it against Today FM because you're (and this is not solely directed at you m17) aging out of the audience they want is silly.

On the JNLR's, Ian Dempsey is down 20,000 year on year. So can we officially put to bed the old line that he's the stable rock of the station immune to changes?

D'arcy says he's up 6,000- is that from taking over Louise's slot or from his night show

I think Dempsey will pick up some ex Chris and Ivan listeners but tbh I can see him bowing out later this year, this year marks his 30th anniversary on breakfast radio and as I've said before, I can see RTE offering him the Ronan Collins slot on Radio 1 and them moving Collins to weekends on Lyric to replace gay Byrne

2fm have no shows in the top 20 list... long gone are the days that 2fm dominated the top 10 never mind the top 20

Yes I know they aren't in the top 20. But the poster I responded to said that breakfast republic was on the list on the previous page. It's not.

Also I mean when they Chris moyles left the radio 1 breakfast show on the BBC in 2012 everyone was predicting the the breakfast shows doom but the sky didn't fall in.

I mean I prefer moyles to grimmy and his humour and stuff(it's probably why I like Ray foley so much)

So yeah today fm might hit a bump but I'm sure me not listening to the station at all anymore is going to keep the top brass awake at night.

Still have never been able to get my head around the changes

Firstly that nobody seems to have any interest in doing anything whatsoever to freshen up the Ian Dempsey Breakfast Show

And secondly that they moved Dermot & Dave to 9:00am and brought Al Porter in to 12:00. It would've been daft enough to leave Dermot & Dave where they were and bring Al Porter in to do 9:00am but it still would have been heaps better than what they did!

They're going to require another revamp in 2018

I strongly suspect that I am in the minority here, and I don't mind if that's the case, but I cannot stand Ian Dempsey.

It is not that he is outwardly offensive. Not at all.

It is just that in my view, he brings absolutely nothing to the ****ing table. He's not witty, he sounds like he is on autopilot and simply to me is there to laugh at Gift Grub. I am astounded at his popularity tbh.

    There.. I've said it.

    Carry on there folks...

yea well i guess his popularity comes from his years on the den and then into radio, he would have cultivated a following all those years back and brought them with him and he therefore has a loyal following but i get where you are coming from. If I landed here in ireland and heard him for the first time i probably wouldnt think much of him to be honest, of course after almost 20 years doing the same thing he is on complete auto pilot...

news, bants with news person...sports news, culchie bants with PC, outlines he knows nothing about and cares little for hurling....spins a few tunes, hosts gift grub, cringe worthy bants with quiz contestants, makes a b*llox of the quiz, laughs it off, casually insults random guest, tries to mask the fact that he has no interest in who they are, bants with antoine/alison/d&d, tries to mask the fact that he cant wait to get the fcuk out of the building, proceeds home for a nap....next day, repeat same...

Does he also have shares in the Bowie back catalog?
And gets a fee when he plays one?

that is so irritating, every bloody morning....he's also so badly researched but doesnt give a flying fcuk, i dont know what he is like in person but in general he comes across as being a decent sort but can be a bit cutting and insulting at times

Dempsey's show is certainly a bit tired but I'd still choose him every time over the alternatives. He's what I want from breakfast radio - easy to listen to, jovial, always in good form, undemanding. Not annoying, attention-seeking, and shrill (like 2FM's offerings) or annoying, depressing and argumentative (Morning Ireland, Newstalk).

No 1 priority for me? Not to be annoyed. I'm not a morning person, I'm barely human before 10am. Having some eejit screeching down the radio to me having 'wacky fun' would send me postal.

Jaysus, don't beat around the bush, tell us what you think of him!:D

I sort of agree with you in that I think the show is tired and Gift Grub seems to be recycling the same jokes every week at this stage.

But, as maudgonner said, I just want something light with non annoying music in the morning and Dempseys slot ticks the boxes for me due to a lack of an alternative.

Saying that, though, I take a break from the show for 2 months every winter so it seems sort of refreshed to me when I tune back in again which makes it bearable for a good portion of the year.
