    I like them

I love the new headlights and the tails. The fronts with the Indicator using the DRL LED strip is particularly nice IMO.

Very Audi-esque with the sweeping rear indicator too.

A nice increase in resolution on the screen.

The tail indicators look cool also.

    I'm actually quiet tempted !

I think VW Ireland are doing some deal at the moment too called "deposit contributions"... up to around 2k I think depending on the car.

Wonder is the contribution off a GTI.

Yeah it is. I know a fella who was ordering a Clubsport earlier this week and he was getting 2k back. I think it has to be registered before Jan 31st though.

What are you guys opinions in the red stripe headlights of the mk7? Was hoping to trade up at some stage this year from my mk6 but so far most cars I'm seeing are without the stripe. My budget is in around 25-26000 but so far having no luck. Have spotted one nice low mileage model but again is without the red stripe. Am i better off to be patient and hang on till more are traded in to garages out is it really that big of a deal at all?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,187 ✭✭✭opinionated3

I think someone posted here before that they became standard around the 142reg.... personally i think the car looks better with the stripe especially on white and tornado red. On other international forums online though, posters were saying how they thought they looked tacky (in their opinions). I agree with you osi....i think I'll hang on another few months and see what the dealerships get in. A gti pp will probably be out of my price range but I'll keep the eyes peeled. .

Xenons became standard in late 142. They were a €1500 ish option before that. Only the xenons have the stripe.

Don't buy a GTI without xenons.

I think it was October 2014 when they became standard. From then on the tech pack was also offered (initially a limited offer which became standard) which had Sat Nav, auto dipped headlights, Adaptive cruise control and reversing camera.

With the lead time from ordering, if you want one with the options above then you are probably looking at a 151.

Or look for a car that was well spec'd up from factory - and there won't be many. I had most of that kit in a 132. Problem is I paid extra for it...

I absolutely balls upped my order. Got a car without the strip because I mistakenly believed it was just the design of the car and not dependent on halogens. I was only going to keep it for 18months so I didnt want to spec up the lighting package.
Well after two years I've finally gone and retrofitted bixenons with the stripe and matching bumper. Cost more than the actual lighting package but you can do it on the cheap also for maybe 800 quid.

Hopefully I can get a few quid back selling the old bumper and headlights.

The bumper is no different. Or were you missing the headlamp washer cut outs?

Sorry the grill attached to the bumper. The red line is misaligned if you just swap the lights.

There's a 151 GTI near me and it doesn't have Xenon's... if you want to be sure you'll probably have to look at 152's

The reg number is only a guideline. What you really need to know is when the car was built. Anything built after October 2014 for Ireland has xenons. So in theory a late 142 could have the new spec. That 151 could have been sitting in a dealers yard for 6 months.

That's why it's important to check dates in and around the engine to get an idea when it was built if it's not a factory order. I'd hate to buy a new 6 month old car for full price!. A friend once bought a new Fabia and it was lying up somewhere for a year . There was no new car smell and the metal top of the engine was white oxidation and dates were a year old.

Yep. Some people wouldn't know or care though. So long as it has the new plate, happy days. You need to do the research cos the dealer won't be telling you!

Facelift ordering is imminent for the UK: http://www.vwpress.co.uk/release-2919.htm

I had heard anecdotally that the Irish release of the Mk 7.5 will be around the start of Feb so hoping to hear something soon.

Interesting that the new 7-speed DSG box is only available on the GTI Performance and the R, but the 'Regular' GTI still comes with the 6-speed DSG (you can see this on the Czech and Swedish VW sites).

No pricing for the GTI Performance yet in Germany or the UK - though the Czech VW site has a price differential of 53000 CZK (about 1960 euro).

The 245 BHP is the performance model. Standard is 230.

Will the PP model have the overboost function like the Clubsport?

    I'd imagine it'd be 265bhp with overboost

    No, it'll be just a standard 245bhp.

Will the Clubsport be discontinued shortly? Seems like the pick of the bunch currently.

Been keeping an eye on the residuals of the PP Models, like all Golf's they are holding well, i'm aiming for one as my next car, but it'll probably be around 2019/20:D

I think it's already been discontinued tbh. As far as I know you cannot factory order any MK7 Golf now, you either wait for the MK7.5 order books to open or pick up a MK7 that's already built.

Lads can you advise if there are dramatic differences between insurance quotes on regular mk7 gti vs the gti pp? Hoping to change this year and would love a PP gti but don't want to get completely screwed over. Insurance this year was 507euro on mk6 gti 2010....

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 51,551 ✭✭✭✭bazz26

Insurance is such an unknown quantity depending on so many factors that the only way to know really is by asking your current insurer.

The mk7 GTI (and 7.5 I assume) is 5 insurance brackets lower than the mk6 GTI in the UK because of the forward-facing radar.
I don't think the PP would have a huge bearing - it's just a small bhp bump.
