Actually apparently authorities have now named them as Mohamed Khadir & Alexandre Bisonnette. No pictures of Khadir yet, here is Bisonette:

Both are reported to have had Quebecois accents and to have been French both, Khadir apparently of Moroccan ancestry.

Absolutely horrible tragedy, you have to feel for the survivors and families at times like this.

Its pretty ****ed up, either a) they are Islamic extremists who attacked other Muslims for not sharing there extremist beliefs, or b) people who hate Muslims and wanted them dead.

Either way, the smart thing would be to attack the extremists, as opposed to going after the average Muslim as some on here have done. All kinds of messed up imho.

This is an awful tragedy, and regardless of the perpetrators being a or b, they want to sow hatred and division and the smart thing to do, would be to deny them that victory. Sadly, there are far to many people who are happy to assist extremists in there goal of fanning hatred.

After this there are more than a few posters on this thread who need to take a long hard look in the mirror. From glee to posting music videos and using faked news as if it were legitimate facts, there's a fair amount of shame to go around.

It's near time that all decent people on the right/left/center started a united front for what we are seeing here is indeed neo-fascism and it should be attacked for what it is.

Sole suspect in Quebec mosque shooting identified

Police in Quebec have identified a university student as the sole suspect in the shooting at a mosque in which six people were killed.

A source named the man as Alexandre Bissonnette.

Police also said a second man arrest, Mohammed Belkhadir, is now considered a witness and not a suspect.

Any proof to back that up? RTE are just reporting the information they have. You have not provided evidence that either RTE are wrong, or that they deliberately provided false information. As we have seen in the past with attacks like this, some early information can turn out to be incorrect, which is rather different then someone deliberately misleading the public.

The update on their website showed that a Moroccan was arrested. The time stamp on the website said 5.51.

So when the report was aired, they were fully aware of the nature of the attack but still went on to try and link it with "islamophobic" incidents in the region.

This was misrepresentitive reporting.

Do you still think it was the witness who was the shooter?

How much clearer can the news be? The shooter was Bissonnette. The Muslim/Moroccan man is no longer a suspect, he is a witness.

The time stamp is still saying 17:51. There is also a reference to a second person being arrested.

Did you read the entire article? Or perhaps you were confused and misread the article?

There's also a bit of confusion going on too.

In an Irish context the other guy might have been "helping Gardai with their enquires". However, in a judicial system like Québec has, you can find quite different terminology and phrases used and different procedures.

It's often a bit more 'hands on' about grabbing anyone they think might be involved and then working from there, releasing people without charge or stain on their character, rather than preparing a file then arresting.

I watched the same report and the RTE website doesn't say what you claim. You have the wrong end of the stick on this one. Go back read the link again. You seems to be grossly mistaken.

You even thanked the post, where I highlighted that the Morrocan lad is considered a witness and not a suspect. As I said before, early on wires can be crossed, and mistakes made, and in this instance, the mistake appears to be yours.
