A friend of mine knows someone who did this BS for a year. Working at a GAA ground. Hauled in kegs of beer for the Christmas too, even though it wasn't in the job description. Then come Christmas time, they didn't even get so much as a pint as a thank you. Totally abused scheme just like job bridge was.

I'm doing the TUS job with love and care
what I got from my 4 jobs with Christmas was more then the Christmas bonus

    4 jobs?
Anyway, it is very much hit and miss. Plenty of negative experiences with TUS and Christmas work, bonus and any time of the year work for that matter.

i just got a letter asking me to apply for tus, now i'm actually happy as i really want some kind of work but does anyone know how accommodating they are to requests, i like working outdoors as opposed to be stuck in an office all day. i like the sound of the environmental services, conservation of national walkways. would there be many jobs in that? i guess im just worried ill get stuck working with children or the elderly and thats just not appealing to me.

Yeah, no problem putting you sweeping and cleaning the rubbish from parks etc. More likely to be GAA fields though. I never heard of anyone wishing for that but everyone to their own though.

i had a Tus placement that lasted a year. it was a great experience. i went into it glad to be off jsa and ended up with a great reference and great memories.
i got a ce placement the following spring and only got 1 year on that as that was the way it worked (i guess). again, went into it determined to do my best. great experience and a glowing reference.
this morning i was offered a full time job, based on those experiences and references.

i think you get out of tus or CE what you put in.

Same for me. Was abit hesitant when I did my TUS placement back in 2013 but I actually ended up loving it. To be honest I didn't want my placement to end as I wasn't treated like sh*t by my host employer and I learned some worthwhile skills that was relevant to my CV .i.e Administration.

This in turn lead to a glowing reference which I used to get a full time position after I finished and next week Im starting a new position in Dublin City Council.

No way would I've achieved this without TUS as it give me my confidence back and belief that I can better myself.

Listen as someone who has done it I wouldn't worry about being forced to do a placement that doesn't suit. If you go in with a positive outlook, express where you'd like to gain experience the TUS supervisors will always do their best to accomadate you.

If you go in with a defensive, fcuk you attitude you'll find it a million times worse. This thread has way too much fear mongering and bullsh*t opinions to be honest.

You'll get as much from TUS as you're willing to put into it.

    Advice please?

Have been 'invited' to attend a one to one meeting with a Tus officer tomorrow. I missed the group meeting because of illness and although still very ill, have to attend. I've been asked to bring my bank details, CV etc with me. I refuse to give my bank details to anyone and always have, should this matter? Can I tell them I don't want to give my bank details to them?

I won't be providing them, either way. But just wondering if this common and what other people have done? or how it will affect me, refusing.

They ask for your bank details because when you're on TUS you are paid into your bank account. I had to give my details when I did TUS, it's nothing to worry about.

When you get a job you'll need to give your bank details to your employer in order to get paid. How do you overcome these hurdles?

I won't give them any personal data. They have no entitlement to it.

How do you propose he get paid then tepin?

    here's the rules :
    12. What are the rates of pay for participants?
The Tús rates of payment will be equivalent to your existing Jobseeker’s Allowance plus a €20 top-up with a minimum payment of €208 (there are some exceptions to this). These rates are effective for all new participants commencing on/after 17th September 2012. With effect from 4th January 2016, the top-up rate has increased to €22.50, with a minimum payment of €210.50.

    13. How will participants be paid?
All participants will be paid directly into their bank accounts (EFT).

    14. Will participants have to pay PAYE, Universal Social Charge and PRSI?
An ‘A’ PRSI contribution will be paid in respect of all participants.
All wage payments to participants are assessable for Income Tax (PAYE) purposes. However, the actual amount payable by an individual will depend on his/her circumstances.
Participants on Tús will be exempt from paying the Universal Social Charge.

And no surprise that you have nothing of worth to add.

Infogiver supplied the requested information accurately. There was no need for me to repeat that.

As for your response, well it was a given. I'd have expected nothing less. How you have not received an infraction for all your useless babble on this thread to date amazes me. Genuine people coming on here asking for advice and the first thing they invariably see is your unhelpful tripe.

As I've said before, you could put your time to far better use.

For anybody with genuine concerns in relation to supplying sensitive information such as bank details, I can assure you that there is absolutely nothing to worry about.

You won't be able to participate in the scheme. Almost every employer in the country now uses paypath to reimburse employees. TUS is no different

Thanks for the useful info, went in today and explained to the lady that I wasn't comfortable giving over my bank details. She explained that the payments go through the bank but was happy to accept me giving that when I actually start the programme and not before.

Just be aware: you will always start the programme on a Monday. You will need to provide your bank details approx 10days prior to this date as new starters and the payroll are processed in advance of your actual start date to ensure that you are paid into bank account on the Thursday of your 1st week. No other way I'm afraid.

But what's the difference in giving the bank details now or after you start?

Why would I give my bank details over to someone before I start a job? Why would anyone give their private bank details over without confirmation of starting a job? What if the job doesn't go through?

Yes, not the same either. I have given my bank details yesterday when I got confirmation of a start date and will be paid next week when I start.

So you have given your bank details now despite your determination not to give them last week.
You can't explain the difference between giving them yesterday and giving them last week.
It's a state sponsored scheme. It's ridiculous to suggest that your bank account was in any kind of jeopardy.
Good luck with the scheme I hope it goes well for you and you get a job out of it.

Well that was wrong. Simple as that. The payment system (administered by Pobal) will run from a Monday to Friday so you as a starter on the system will ONLY be started on a Monday. You would then get a full week's pay on the Thursday of that week and every Thursday thereafter. In your example, if you have the details correct, what payment did you receive for the 2nd and 3rd of June? If you are thinking that you have to work a back week and you done well out of this setup, you are incorrect I'm afraid.

You have given your bank details on the Tuesday of the week before you get paid (Thursday of the following week -9 days in your case), which although cutting it tight, can still be processed. And you are starting next week (Monday as far as the system is concerned, even though your week's working schedule may have you physically starting on a Tuesday or later).

    Hope the above is clear.

Yes, did you read my post?

I gave my bank details yesterday as my employment was secured and I was given a start date. Last week I had no idea if I would be starting with the agency they were hoping to sign me up with and so why would I give my bank details? Why would they want them? The Case worker/Support worker was very happy with my response of not giving them until job was secured. I did explain the difference  then and now.

I never stated my bank account was in jeopardy at all, where did you read that? I simply stated that I do not give my bank details to ANYONE without a good reason too, e.g for work, DD etc. Why would anyone? That's silly, possibly very stupid and is how fraud and con's work and are continually in play. That is why you are TOLD by your bank, not to give out your details.

Thank you. I have my degree and numerous dip's and certs and due to extensive third level education (Many years in third level), experience is where I lack. I don't see a job coming out of the scheme but hopefully it will fill that blank on the CV where experience is concerned. :) Fingers crossed.
