Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

List here on Stereogum as a decent conversation starter.

Very excited at the prospect of a new record by LCD Soundsystem.
Lots of exciting music promised in the new year. Interesting to hear what direction Grandaddy/Ride take on the new record. I do hope the new Shins' record is better than the last one.
Also looking forward to Magnetic Fields' latest opus - 50 songs!

Mightn't have time for football with all that music to listen to. Next year gonna be gooooood. If we don't all die first.

Did I read somewhere that it's gonna be the last Spiritualized album?

Brand New have been on these anticipated album lists for the past five years, yet still no follow-up to Daisy. Maybe in 2018.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,899 ✭✭✭UrbanSprawl

No sign of anything new from Protomatyr as yet.Wolf Parade are busy working on a new album so looking forward to hearing that.A new arcade fire album wouldn't interest me unless they go back to the style of music on the earlier albums.

And James Blunt tweeted this recently

    James Blunt ?@JamesBlunt Dec 13

If you thought 2016 was bad - I'm releasing an album in 2017.

    :pac:

The XX with an album out on the 13th, will be the first I catch in the new year for sure. It looks like an exciting year in music ahead

I still get that excited little feeling when I see Pearl Jam are due to release a new album - followed up by that disappointed feeling after listening to it, yet still clinging to a little bit of hope that the album will be a grower. But it doesn't. Maybe this will be the one.

New Goldfrapp album Silver Eye is out on 31st March.

One thing I love about Goldfrapp is how each new album they release has a different style to its immediate predecessor, Alison's voice being the only real constant. If the first single is anything to go by, it looks like the new one's gonna have an electropop, Black Cherry-esque sound. Which is totally fine by me!

New Little Comets 'Worhead' releasing later this year. Absolutely loved 'Hope Is Just A State of Mind'

They've released a few of the new tracks on Youtube. Worth reading Robert's blog on the songwriting: http://www.littlecomets.com/news/

The Painters EP by ANimal Collective released today.
Wasn't a fan of the last album at all, think this might be more of the same.

On the basis of first few listens I have to say I'm disappointed by the new Father John Misty album. Low on tunes and high on self-indulgence.....

It's so disappointing when considering what came before it. It's very much a commentary on the times we live in and is quite witty in places but overall I was underwhelmed :(

Well I don't speak from a position of ever seriously listening to the guy,I have heard a few songs I'd say but they didnt click and I dont even remember them now and well he is a commercial artist (and a wealthy guy) at this stage so I dunno how seriously u could take his lyrics, doom and despair abound no doubt?

Been really enjoying this. I see they're touring with The Shins who've also returned to form somewhat on their new album.

I got about halfway through it and lost interest.

someone on Twitter described it as like Elton John singing internet comments.

I must be in the minority here so! Picked it up at the end of Feb when it leaked and it's still getting regular plays. I do see where people are coming from, but has definitely grown on me.

Afghan whigs back with a seriously good tune ..i didn't actually listen to alot of their reformed music in the past years but this sounds like it could have being on gentlemen.

Its unlikely that they will play here again as the crowd at their last concert was tiny. Super live band though, pity they are not liked here anymore

I seen them in academy few years back, was a great show sizeable audience, this new album from what I have heard of it is a tad boring and wont be winning over hordes of new fans.
