Madonna tells the President of the US to "suck a dick" at one of the protests yesterday and gets a round of applause for it.

More classy behavior from the left.

So when Trump called Jon Stewart a pussy is that classy behaviour from the right?

    No.

But respect should be shown to the President, like it or not the man was democratically elected.

Why should respect be shown to Trump, one has to earn respect and he is starting off his tenure with his respect account in major debit.

    Getting elected earns respect

The right have never pretended to be classy. These are classroom level "but he did it first" excuses. If Trump is such a dictator, where's the arrest warrant?
The left would be calling it "an incitement of violence" if it were against a new Democrat President.

No. He doesn't have any right to expect automatic respect.

A real president unites a country. Trump doesn't give a sh*t. He's divisive, insulting and only thinks about himself.

I have no respect at all.

Nope. Hours after making his speech that he was going to be a President for ordinary Americans, he signed an Executive Order rowing back on planned insurance premium cuts for FHA mortgages, impacting the less well off in society by around $500 per year.

So do you think Clinton, who would put our own Bertie in the ha'penny place when it comes to telling lies would have united the country?

    I don't think so.

    No.

But Trump led the charge on the nonsense claim that Obama wasn't born in the US.
What real respect did Trump ever actually show to Obama over the last 8 years?

    Stop being a hypocrite.

You are so deluded you actually have no idea what you are saying.

I and nobody else should ever, ever refrain from criticising anybody, especially political leaders. The moment I do so, free speech has been lost.

People talked **** about Obama for 8yrs, especially Trump. Should they have been more respectful?

So do you think Clinton...blah blah blah...

    I don't think Clinton anything.

I think trump is the most conflictual divisive president in a very long time. And that he is solely out to enrich himself and doesn't give two fcuks about the office of president.

He should get no respect at all.

Maybe you can point out where I said you can't criticize, oh that's right you won't be able to.

If you open your eyes you'll see the point I was making is Madonna telling him to suck a dick is unacceptable.

You said "be more respectful". On what planet has the president himself been "respectful" to others?

Was repeatedly questioning if Obama was African acceptable?

His existence divides the country for sure but that's the left going bonkers because he won. I'd argue that Trump is the result of an already divided country.. Sanders' and Trump's sudden rises in popularity can only be explained by saying that things were feked beforehand.

Think about it.. Right-wing media led an assault on Clinton, her emails and her history.. But not her supporters. (I don't count posters calling people "cucks" on reddit as an assault on her supporters.)
Left-wing media demonised all of Trump's supporters to an unbelievable degree. Clinton herself attacked millions of people by calling them deplorables. The media said all of his supporters were sexist racist Islamophobic xenaphobes and the majority of America believes that.

So in reality, who is really responsible for the split? In my opinion, it already existed and left-wing media made it worse. I've said it before and I'll say it again.. There are Irish people in this thread who are indifferent to the idea of him getting assassinated because of tweets and lewd comments. Actual death seems like a plausible answer.

Be respectful to the office he holds, he's not just Donald Trump any more, he's the President.

And no I don't agree with what he said about Obama in the past.

He's still Donald J. Trump. Just cause he flies in AF1 and lives in the White House doesn't detract from the fact this is the same guy who called a comedian a pussy in a twitter war. I'll gladly talk **** about him for the next 4 years, and I hope to God the media does it with me.

I don't care if you agree, is it acceptable to question such a thing?

    Absolute nonsense.

By your logic we should have shown respect for George Bush, Silvio Berlusconi, Kim Jong, or even Enda Kenny.

Trump has said deplorable things about Obama and directly insulted the man, as have his followers over the last 8 years.

It is an absolute and total hypocrisy that you now expect or demand that people treat Trump with respect just because he is the President of the US. He's still the same slimy man he was this time last year.

So by that logic, Obama was a pretty terrible President too given how much more divided, racially, the country became under his watch.

Only if he contributed to it. There's no doubt his comments on police shootings annoyed a lot of people but other than that was he really divisive? Trump has been actively alienating groups all through his campaign and since the election.

The only people he has actively alienated are the people trying to blow the place up and illegal immigrants

No point, why would he create jobs for liberal Clinton supporters?

So they won't have time to protest and the profits that Trump supporters make from them will allow them more leisure time to march in celebration of America the Great, he has it all figured, the man is a genius

maybe a quiet invasion of Kuwait to protect them from invasion and to help them invest their oil revenue or more strategically turn on Saudi Arabia for their actions in Yemen and support for ISIS

8 years in then handback just before China overtakes U.S. in GDP https://www.bloomberg.com/graphics/2016-us-vs-china-economy/

A perceived moral highground excuses antisocial behavior because it's for the greater good. It's why normal people are inciting violence and wishing death on people in day-to-day conversation and on Facebook for all to see.

Fun fact: The Republicans were founded to end slavery. The Democrats fought to keep it. Ending slavery passed in 1865 with 100% Republican support but only 23% Democrat support in congress.

I say fun fact because it has nothing to do with today's versions of the parties.

What reality are you living in? There were more people protesting him yesterday than were cheering him at his inauguration. You think they were doing that because they felt included?
