Downloading a 1.291GB update. 935F, unlocked from Meteor and flashed to BTU, security patch 1st Dec

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,972 ✭✭✭Flaccus

Running nougat now after update and not on beta program. 7.0, security patch 1st January. VF told me today they are still some months off and Meteor have no schedule. So flashing BTU feels like best option if you want Nougat.

Anyway , phone feels faster, settings menus are way better, new bluelight display feature and you can optimise the phone for performance, games, entertainment or everyday use which drops the home screen res to 1080p. You can also manually change the res.

He does flashing to the update work and are there any negative consequences at all?

Well, if you dont do it right, you will brick your phone.

    1. Download the official BTU (UK) firmware for nougat on sammobile, g935f if you have an s7 edge
    2. Install Odin on a windows machine
    3. Install Samsung Smart Switch on windows or mac

Backup your phone first with smart switch, then use odin to flash the nougat BTU firmware file

On odin you use all the files except one, open them via odin, you use the csc file not home csc

Note, this will wipe your entire phone, thus the backup will restore most things but still requires setting up

Id recommend you read up more on it before you do it, also check out some youtube videos

Does your phone have to be unlocked for this to work?

From what i read you can do it on a locked phone, however it would remain locked to the network it came with unless you got the unlocking code

I found this here for the s7 which takes minutes to download comapred to hours on sammobile. Is is the same file?

I'm on nougat now, I've found the obvious stuff like different look, blue light filter, what else is there that I should have a look at.

New life changing app for all of you to get... torchie

you press the volume up and down buttons together from any screen (except always on display) and the torch turns on. You can turn it off from any screen including always on display by pressing vol up and down again together.

    amazing.

Also note changing the csc might have warranty affects to you if something were to go wrong down the line with the phones hardware

Its always possible to flash back to original csc though

I can download the update, my phone is an insurance replacement from Vodafone insurance, but it must be unlocked.

99% downloaded from sammobile and the download crapped out. ffs. it took nearly 2.5 hours. Have to do it again now.

I've been there, its highly frustrating, but just start it again and cross your fingers :P

Also I doubt the carrier Id would change so you'd be stuck with updates from your network instead of samsung directly. Its best to get it unlocked, using someplace like sim-unlock.net or your carrier might oblige.

odin doesnt allow me to add anything other than the AP file once extracted. i just went ahead with it and my phone isnt working properly now. i know i can just fix it with older firmware so its fine

Not sure it'll it's related, but make sure to use latest Odin. It failed on me when I used a slightly older version before.

you need to use all the files from the firmware in odin (except home csc), its known that Odin can show as not responding when using it to select the files sometimes, you just wait till it starts responding.

i know when i did it, it hung on not responding for a few minutes before it imported the BL file

only when all are in should you hit start to start the process

Ive installed nougat using this method on my s7.https://www.google.ie/amp/www.theandroidsoul.com/download-galaxy-s7-edge-nougat-ota-update/amp/ Everything seems good. My phone is locked on the 3 network, so will i be getting future updates from 3 or directly from samsung?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 5,016 ✭✭✭ct5amr2ig1nfhp

Got the update eventually from sammobile.com Took 2 hours to download. For anyone looking for Odin, it's at the bottom of the download page on sammobile. Scroll to the bottom of the download page and it gives instructions on how to install whatever firmware you download. There is a link to download Odin.

Flashed very quickly and back up and running already. Will have a play with it later.

Should be BTU now so you'll get the regular OTA updates.
You can check CSC in phone info app.

Auto downloaded this morning OTA to my device. Installed this evening in less than 10 mins including all the optimisation post install. Did not lose a file or setting in the process, all seamless and so it should be.

    G930F / Android 7.0 / Security patch 1 Jan 2017

Now to mess around with it and find whats new (and whats useful).

Can I just clarify the SIM unlock process with you guys?

It looks like I have to get my hands on a SIM that isn't Vodafone, put it in my phone, turn it on and I'll get prompted for the unlock code?

From sim-unlock.net, I got an NCK code, an MCK code and an SPCK code.

    The instructions are:
For message Sim network unlock pin you should enter the codes if the following order, Unfreeze confirm, NCK confirm (please try a couple of times if the Galaxy S7 does not accept it for the first time). There is also a special RGCK (regional lock code) code sometimes provided. Please use the RGCK code the same way as the NCK code.

I assume the NCK code is the unlock code? What is the MCK code? What is the RGCK code and why don't I have one?

I've watched their video of someone gong through the process but the process is not clear and it's not in English.

No idea what the other codes are. I just entered the nck code twice and it unlocked. Also if you ever email them, they usually get back to you within the hour.

Thanks dude. Now I just need to find a non-Vodafone sim. :)

Up and running with 7.0 now. I found the notification panel to be too plain and hard to see what notification is from what app but I'm getting tjevjang of it now and quite like it.

Have the blue light filter set to come in every night so hopefully it messes with my eyes a little less when browsing in bed.

YouTube channels I watched in 1440p are giving maximum of 1080p since I updated to nougat. They also start off on 480p and work it's way up to 1080p as opposed to starting on 720p.

    Anyone having this issue too?
