There are 7 Irish spec models and 8 uk import model i20's

If when you enter the reg number and it gives you option to choose the car u own, it's advises you that price is subject to change when car reg is verified.

It's like when you went to buy car and garage gave you multiple prices..

I had put in exact spec from the drop down menu. I read it said that once I put in reg quite may change, but just couldn't believe it when it jumped that much - more than tripled in price. It's not like its a high spec model. Anyway, I went with the Liberty quote.

Be sure to get minimum step back no claim bonus as liberty have a 'total loss' clause

Thus you have fire or theft claim that in your own mind , should have no effect on your insurance , think again

Liberty could remove all your hard earned bonus

I would never claim on fire or theft, I pay for the disc in the window and the protection of everyone else around me. It's the only way I can afford to keep on the road and I'm sure I'm not the only one.

Just curious as to what people pay.
    Your Age:
    Car type and engine:
    years driving:
    any claims:
    Price and provider:

    Mine go as below

    Age:18
    Car: 2006 mini cooper S 1.6 172bhp
Years driving: year and a half
    claims: 1 claim last year
price and provider: 1200 with Aviva

Pretty reasonable price considering claim and high performance I think
Is that insured as a named driver?

For me it would depend on the value of the car .
If the car was worth 25 grand you might not have a choice if it was stolen or went on fire.
If the car is only worth a grand or two its easier to take a hit like that.

You could put your excess up to a grand to get the premium down a bit.

    That is equality for you.
Or did you expect men to pay less when the companies were ordered to not "discriminate" between men and women anymore?

(not having a go at you)

Go to a broker and have them do a search for you. Some insurers seem to operate on the premise that their customers will move anyway and don't want to hold on to them. Certainly there's little value given to loyalty. I found Cornmarket good when changing health insurance. Might be worth a call.

Well, while haggling with 25plus, having chosen to protect my NCB - final price was €401 fully comp..
Then I got a discount voucher code - so end price is €366... not bad.. So happy with that..

One really has to check on line and call around.. the quote on line is just a starting point.. the real price you will get on the phone..

so renewal quote on the above is €686 - (€366 last year) - wtf?? It seems to be a trend. I spent a lot of man hours on this last year - don't wanna repeat it..

So I was with 25plus last year - female 30's 11 years NCB Toyota Yaris 01 1.2 ltr... any suggestions from anyone in the know or with similar circumstances?? thanks in advance.. I really don't have the time for endless shopping around and filling out quotes on line..

I know a lot of co's wont look at me due to the age of the car - I guess that narrows it down somewhat

First Ireland is a broker and will quote cars up to 20 years old on a standard policy. Give them a try, the usually come back with ok prices.

that is the renewal quote this year for same insurer (FBD)

    My son's quote!!!

Wow, just wow...I wonder if there's a case here for the outlook to be one where having private transport goes back to being something for the rich; I mean, if a family is supposed to cough up 7 grands fro their son or daughter to learn driving, chances are that the young fella will just take the bus.

I personally already know 2 people (in Dublin) who got rid of their cars due to the cost of insurance, one of them is even an enthusiast. What will happen when people in public transport served areas start not having cars anymore?

Will premiums go down as there are "less claims", or...will insurers try to charge people living in the countryside 20 grands/year?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,542 ✭✭✭techdiver

If things keep going they way they are it will reach a tipping point. In fact based on the number of uninsured drivers on the road, it looks like we already have to some extent.

Yes, some people, especially in Urban centres will give up their cars, but other, especially from rural areas not served by public transport will probably just dive uninsured.

what's the insurance cost on a moped :D

When I started out on a moped in 2003 it cost me €750 third party only on a Honda X8R-X. The tax for the year was €37 though.

As an underwriter this is something I think should get more attention.

The simplest and most effective one would be dash cams.

Say you fit a dash cam and it automatically gives you 10% off.

A tracker could give you another 5%.

I genuinely cannot understand why dash cams are not encouraged by insurers.

With the amount of low impact collisions that result in soft tissue damage (ie makey uppy try on claims) injuries, surely having concrete evidence that the impact couldn't possibly cause any physical injury would save an absolute fortune on the claims that are bogus.
