Does anyone know if that story actually featured in the Indo today (the one Rosemary spoke of last night) ? Completely forgot to pick it up today.

    Think this is the one:

Did anyone see Holly C's snaps of about some new alternative phone network - no mention of ad - just random snaps of their 'special' offer..

I saw that and snapped her that she should have stated it was an ad but got no response. Lol clearly I've nothing better for doing today.

I also presume she got her gym membership for free as she's posting the name every time she goes.

Not that she'll ever admit it but id be shocked if shes not getting some sort of perk from the gym. Be it discounted membership or full freebie. She even wears the hoody when she's not going. I dont know anyone that wears a hoody with their gym name on it

Im also curious if shes been paid by great irish run as shes done photocalls and interviews for it (along with an Irish athlete but she doesn't have a blog/snapchat to my knowledge). I just cant see her advertising it for free

Nothing really in it. Bit disappointing. No comments or anything. Maybe she might have a more lengthy version soon. If the editor only contacted RMC last night, and the article was published at 2.30am..... Seems a bit rushed.

Drop the bought follower discussion. It's not on topic and is speculation.
    Thx

One on-topic point re. bought followers.
I work for a company that engages with influencers, although not in the Beauty/Fashion arena as most discussed here are. Before reaching out to influencers we do basic research. One of the things we look at is "real" followers - we have a formula where we take variables like no. of followers, no. of posts, interactions per post (heavily weighted on comments rather than likes) and a few other factors. Below a certain score, we don't engage. Other colleagues I know from other companies have something similar. Obviously it doesn't work for all social networks, and it's not foolproof, but it helps us set a baseline.

Bloggers are taking a lot of heat on this thread, but imo companies are also to blame. As well as researching who we use, we also ensure that adequate disclosures are included on all posts in the terms of the contract. We work globally so part of that is due to differing laws in other countries. Ireland has a lot of work to do in this area. I think I said it previously in this thread, a group of prominent Irish bloggers should take it on themselves to start creating standards, it could really give them the winning edge in a few years and make their reviews transparent.

Some companies are better than others. Seems to be the bigger brands. I commented on the previous thread about Boots. They obviously make sure the influencers they hire follow the #ad guidelines. Its evident in both Irish and UK bloggers snaps/videos etc. Smaller make up brands like flomar and catrice etc don't.

I've noticed Simple is a mixed bag. Sometimes the blogger hashtags, sometimes they don't, Tara Makeup being a prime example who works with them but only hashtagged some of her ads. She posted to her Instagram 1st and 2nd Dec, no #ad, posted 13th Dec #ad. All the time using the tag line #feelgoodskin, which leads me to believe all posts were for same campaign and therefore ads as she's hardly posting under that tag line for free some of the time.

Find her to be one of the worst along with her friend Pippa, while both playing up to the "nice" image.

Anyone see the Snaps today from the escape room thing? Rosemary #ad while James Kavanagh (who even wore a camera) did not... hmm

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 23 trishaaaa_X

I noticed that too about the escape room! i dont follow tara makeup so I dont know did she ad it or not... These influencers simply dont care if they are hashtagging ads or not!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,856 ✭✭✭ratmouse

This might be a stupid question, but, considering that the public, followers and the enforcement agencies are now onto what should be hash tagged by bloggers and what should not, what would be a blogger's reason at this stage to not declare what is an advertisement or a sponsored post? What do they actually have to gain by not making this declaration? Again, it's possibly a silly question with a very obvious answer .

Tara has all hers from the room thing with #ad. Just incase anyone was wondering!

Tara did tag it #ad when talking about it before she went. She didnt snap when in there so no need.

Just saw that Ciara O'Doherty also used the #ad hashtag.

I was actually going to ask about the blogger with the nose job but couldn't remember her name, that's the one.
I noticed though that James K said something along the lines of "Universal brought us here." Maybe he thinks that suffices instead of doing #ad.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 23 trishaaaa_X

Perhaps, I have nothing against him, I do enjoy his snaps and personally I am not bothered by them using #Ad's or not but its just very inconsistent, I am always skeptical when I see one person #ad and more don't I always think why aren't they disclosing it!

I am very sick of seeing ads for miss fit skinny tea and the stylepro- don't know how many more snaps I need to see with these being shown!! over advertising of products really do put me off even think of buying them (not that I was anyway)

The skinny tea is one that really annoys me. Lots of it being advertised with practically no #ad.

Grace cant even take it herself and isn't following the facebook 28 day diet plan properly by her own admission but still shilling it with her discount code. How is that not an ad?

if anyone was to question her on it- you would probably get blocked!! She even admitted was it yesterday that she was following the plan loosely - but she seems to be mentioning it a lot. I don't understand why would you be advertising something that you are not even following and don't even get me started on the tea!!

Now I never have been pregnant and I don't know what you can and cannot have so I will fully put my hands up if I am wrong.. To my knowledge you can have herbal teas when you are pregnant so why is miss fit tea not allowed during pregnacy & breastfeeding- this may going off the forum subject but i see so much advertisting for it I kind of wonder what ingredients in the tea that they cannot have? And I believe she should not be advertising it for the simple fact that she cannot have it anymore, I know she used to drink it before.

The company said in their instagram before that Grace would be their brand ambassador along with MU Fairy and that Grace would be back in Jan so she's obviously back in action as brand ambassador again, #ad or otherwise.

Bit pointless having a brand ambassador who cant use the product or even follow their meal plan. Also officially does that absolve them from having to use #ad? Grace did use it on one or two of the snaps but the majority of time leaves it off.

Trisha, not sure exactly what the ingredient is but there has to be something if they say you shouldnt without a GPs advice. Possibly a type of herb that isnt recommended for pregnant or breastfeeding women.

It is too expensive to carry out the testing necessary to ensure it's safe for pregnant women. Most of the advice on what you can't take during pregnant is more so you won't get sick and dehydrated, very few things actually harm a foetus. I drank herbal teas when pregnant, the off the shelf standard brands, and they were fine. There are some teas that might dry up milk, or that aid milk production, or are thought to bring on labour (most of which I'm highly dubious about, many are simply old wives' tales).

Thank you!! It was always something I wondered about, not that I'm planning to take the tea but i was curious as I thought that they're would be no restriction with the bog standard herbal tea.. :P

Because then his followers would realise how many of his snaps he's paid to dribble out to his unsuspecting 'fans' & the illusion that he's your mate & 'just snapping for the laugh' would be gone.

This is very true, its all very err on the side of caution when it comes to that kind of thing.

I think he is the most clever one of them all, he did work in PR - he obviously has built up the image of being very funny & friendly and he is 100% I think he is gas and I enjoy looking at his snaps. But he built up his image and became popular because he knew he wanted to start the currabinny cafe and I think he has done a spectacular job getting himself out there and becoming known.. I think it was all thought of carefully about how to become popular first and then work on the currabinny brand!

Think the company said on instagram something along the lines that the product contains caffeine and some herbs to aid with weight reduction and that that wouldn't be recommended for anyone ever when pregnant or breast feeding
