Ewan McKenna was dead right in expressing that sentiment.

In fairness to Joe Molloy though I think the newspaper section yesterday was more a reflection of his love of Rory McIlroy and golf more than anything, that was his blindspot to the blatant product placement type carry on.

Clerkin in fairness called a halt to it, and said enough of the promoting of one newspaper.

I remember Brolly was on one morning and his swearing was highly offensive to Molloy, but Kimmage drops the f-bomb and few times and because it came from Rory's mouth its par for the course (jaysus i'm punning about golf now )

Joe does himself no favours when he comes out with this kind of stuff...

"I'll stand up for the integrity of the slot."

It just sounds so pompous. He should have just laughed this off, same with the Brolly piece last week. He does tend to take himself a bit too seriously.

Where is the initial exchange and the back and forth from MacKenna and Molloy?

Paul Kimmage probably helped steer the integrity of the show towards Indo articles yesterday. Joe does really well however considering he is much younger than most of the journalists on there and has to deal with the big egos sometimes. No mention of Brolly funnily enough, who did give last week’s paper review show a mention in his article but only to reference some ‘GAA players now are like chess pieces’ quote.

While Rory may not identify with being Irish, he saved the Irish Open so fair fecks I say.

He is a pompous ass. Utterly charmless and one eyed too. Not a good trait for a 'journalist'.

I genuinely can't see any of this.

Well to be fair, Kimmage is after travelling in to studio, so he's surely gonna push his paper if he gets the chance. It's up to Joe to make sure that the segment doesn't become a product placement for the SIndo. I wonder is Ewan MacKenna still a little bit bitter about OTB messing up his big opportunity.

Usually, if a print journalist appears on radio or television, they are obliged (by their main employer) to mention the publication they work for.

Paul Kimmage is a regular contributor to both Today FM and Newstalk, however as both stations are owned by Uncle Dinny, who also controls the SINDO, they wouldn't be allowed have an issue with Paul's SINDO plugs.

I wonder if himself and Ger ever went for that pint!

While I did think they spent along time on the Indo, the Rory interview was the thing to talk about whether Kimmage was there or not.

Seems like there's a huge clash of egos here on both sides. Joe and Ewan would want to take their heads out of their respective arses.

The indo articles sounded genuinely interesting so maybe that's why they got more airtime this eeek. Many a week david Walsh articles have been given it. I think Ewan has come across silly.

And he was very generous in his praise for David Walsh's article as well from what I remember. Human nature would normally have dictated that you never say anything positive about somebody who you dont get along with (any more), but in fairness to Kimmage he was showering David Walsh with the highest of praise.

As talented as Rory is I just don't find him that interesting on a personal level. The media's gushing over him can get a bit much at times especially on OTB.

He seems like a love him or loathe him character, I think as many in the media chastise him as gush over him

Doesn't interest myself in the slightest but I'm not much of a golf fan whereas Joe Molloy I think could spend the entire show talking about golf and Rory.

Maybe it's the Northern Ireland thing I don't know but I sense that the general public down south don't really connect with him at all and don't really care all that much about him to be honest.

I'm not really into golf, but if the Ryder cup or a major is on I'll probably watch the final rounds. But have to say I love when Padraig is on the radio, he seems genuinely nice but absolutely bat sh1t crazy.

He is Irish. He's Northern Irish. That's Irish.

If you come from Meath or Monaghan or Louth, who do you have more in common with? The guy from fifty miles up the road in Holywood, or a guy from West Cork or Belmullet?

Irishness doesn't begin or end at the border, and there are different types of Irishness. His type is the Irishness that comes with growing up in Northern Ireland, and feeling Northern Irish. That's why he supports Ulster Rugby, Carl Frampton and the NI soccer team. That's the beginning and end of it.

I'd disagree, I think he's a very interesting person with a lot to say, and not afraid to say it.

And his achievements in sport in my view go way, way beyond what any other Irish sportsperson has ever achieved. Look at him in South Africa this week - he is the draw, he is what thousands and thousands of people are coming out to see in Capetown or wherever it was.

Its not a matter of opinion, its a matter of fact. He is Irish, he was born in Ireland.

You mightn't like to recognize that, you might not care about his type of Irishness, but he is 100% Irish.

Do you have the same issue with Sean Cavanagh or Oisin McConville?

There in lies the guys dilemma.....

You would have believe he was born in the United Kingdom; and not Ireland?

Fine if you want to judge people in terms of borders and legal entities.

His whole thing on the Olympics is - 'I don't feel British, and I don't feel (southern) Irish. I am Northern Irish, and that's all.'

I really applaud him for this, as it gets away from all the labels of which camp are you in, you have to be this or have to be that.

People earlier are saying he is bland; but one of the things I find very refreshing about McIlroy is that he will voice his opinions on these things.

And he is right - why should he be labelled by you or anyone else. He is Northern Irish......Northern Irish people are Irish. Thats unarguable.

But his opinions hold no water as he changes them all the time.

He had no interest in the Ryder Cup now he loves it.

He was British now he isn't

He was Irish now he isn't.

He missed the Olympics because of Zika now it is that he just wasn't really bothered.

He might be interesting if he actually didn't back down from his opinions but he has constantly as he's simply a corporate shill at times that will say what helps him earn the most money or provide less hassle for him which is perfectly fine but there's a massive amount of disingenuousness to what he says.

I couldn't give a ****e about him as a person but I hate this bull**** the media try to pedal about sportspeople in general and try to make them fascinating interesting characters when invariably they aren't just very talented focussed individuals which does not mean they are interesting individuals. This applies to McIlroy.
