I don't think symths lets you pay it off in little bits though.

they won't but you can buy a voucher and keep topping it up if you want to put the money aside.

Just watched the presentation now, and have avoided any and all mention, comment, or thoughts on the Switch, so am saying this completely unbiased: I think they've nailed it.

The price is fine for what you're getting, though I think it would have greatly sweetened the deal to pack in a pro controller. The reason I say that is because the joycon's don't appeal to me at all; they're too small individually, and it lacks any usable d-pad when combined. It'll be Pro controller all the way for me.

That said, there's enormous potential in the system. The Zelda trailer left me laden in goosebumps, the Mario game looks truly epic, so with that amazing 1st party support, to see the 3rd parties coming along will hopefully mean good things.

I won't be a launch adopter, though I wouldn't blame anyone for being one, I don't think they'll be disappointed.

You have to use your phone to voice chat on it? And they are charging for this? Wow.

I actually just rang up Henry St there and asked about my click and collect order. Yer man says they've been cancelling online orders because there's a directive to take 50 yoyo's on order and the click and collect is only a fiver. He told me to head in and I can top the pre order up to 50 no problem.

that's the four different stories from four different stores.

has anyone who used click and collect been contacted by gamestop?

seems like people are only finding out if they make contact which is fairly bad form.

Mr E did I think. Typical GameStop.

Been following this thread for a bit now. Have an online click and collect preorder with gamestop for a fiver. Called them today about amending the order and paying off some more money and he said it wasn't on their system. His best guess was that the online preorders would get allocated to their specific stores and arrive along with the instore ones. So nothing to be done until launch day it seems.

I think it would benefit from even one or two more noteworthy games at launch. I think it's an expensive piece of equipment for anyone on the fence (although don't believe they can magically reduce the price either of what is very clearly a complex piece of kit, in form factor particularly). The online subscription service sounds bizarre and a bit silly; the reliance on enhanced Wii U ports is frustrating; and the lack of third party titles is a worrying omen.

And yet I've preordered one. Frankly I could easily hold out and play Zelda on the Wii U. But the thought of being able to pick it up, put it in my bag and play it on the way into work is a really enticing prospect to me, especially for the time consuming games. I'm treating this primarily as an upgrade to my 3DS - about time, since Pokemon Sun can barely have three characters on screen in battles without coughing up blood - that I can just happen to play on the TV too. The basic concept of Switch is right up my alley: convenient, effective and seemingly more-or-less seamless. That it will unify Nintendo's peerlessly creative and talented teams behind a single piece of hardware is also a very exciting prospect after decades of handheld / home console division.

I think many of the criticisms are justified, albeit in many places subject to the usual Internet hyperbole and hyperfury. I hope the games flow steadily because they really have to if Nintendo want to keep up momentum post inevitably successful launch. But again the simple idea of being able to sneak in an hour of Breath of the Wild and Super Mario Odyssey on the bus is ultimately the core and far from insignificant appeal of this quirky piece of hardware.

    German advert for the Switch.

Gotta think the stores here won't have enough pro controller in stock, look at the PS4 VR and move stick debacle as an example, preorder a pro controller if you can asap.

One thing that is nice to see, is at least it's getting prominent advertising in stores. Was in a Gamestop today and they had it all over the place really.

I actually quite like that ad. It's simple, gets the point across. Makes it look like a good piece of kit.

They just need to have it on television more than once every three weeks like some of the Wii U adverts. They need to bombard the Switch onto people. It may cost a lot in marketing, but it's money well spent as they'll get it back with the increased Switch sales.

Wonder when was the last time Nintendo flew in economy? The pitch of the seats totally unrealistic. The Switch is doomed.

Sorry can't do that!! Nintendo would then miss out on a sale, can't have that happening.

A bit off topic but I must say the tweet from Jason from Kotaku has really riled up fans of LPVG. Christ he points out a big problem with reporting "maybes" which he's too right about and they run to Laura's rescue like she immune to being called out. I wholly believe the journalists reporting on "suspected" or "rumoured" features are the reason so many people seem dissatisfied with the results. At one point I read a report that said the switch was going to be as powerful as PS4 and portable. Now I find out it's slightly better than Wii u.

Is there any big games on the horizon for the 3DS in the next year/18 months?

I do love the idea of the switch being the home for their handheld and Console games and hopefully not a new Nintendo handheld to replace the 3DS being released in the next year or two.

I suppose Reggie had to say they were still supporting the 3DS in an interview I read because they obviously still want it to sell.

Nintendo always stated that their next console wasn't about power or graphics capabilities.

Dragon Quest 11 would be the biggest, but that is also coming out on the Switch and PS4.

Pretty decent interview in Time with Reggie. Doesn't give a lot more info away but found it interesting nonetheless.

Its what people believed for so long is the real problem, that is not Nintendo's fault. Over any reveal we were reading it does this & that. Oh Nintendo delayed it to have a very strong launch window & they were busy making games for it except they were working on porting popular WiiU games.
Then the presser was lukewarm at best after the cool reveal trailer. We get news on a terrible sounding attempt at online, paltry 3rd party support from big studios, overpriced peripherals eg. the pro controller right now is £100! on Amazon & only 2 games they showed look worth it. As a handheld it's cool but this is a follow up to the WiiU not the 3DS.

But that's the problem, they're just rumours. Now we have a better idea what Switch is, it's now a reality. I just hope Nintendo can steer it in the right direction and make it a success.

At £40 above RRP - either a misprice or price gouging - I think it's fair to say one should not be ordering a Pro controller off Amazon right now.

Off screen play of Zelda in handheld mode, looks good, no frame drops.

Syrenne McNulty, Switch Dev, gives details on NS, Joycon, VC and more,
Syrenne is a registered Nintendo developer who's working on Monochrono for the Switch and Wii U.

She makes appearances on the RFN podcast sometimes and always gives some behind the scenes insight at Nintendo or the Japanese gaming industry.

While she's still under NDA and can't talk too much about technical specifications she did give some juicy tidbits on a podcast.

    On Joy-con's

    -Lots of tech

-HD rumble is the real deal. The bottom of the joycon will vibrate if an ice cube hits the bottom of the glass. And a full glass of ice cubes will make the top of the joycon rumble. Like the joycon becomes the glass. Basically the rumble can vibrate at different intensities but also at different locations instead of being one giant motor.

-IR pointer is great. It would be difficult to make Wii BC games work with it but not impossible.

-Comfortable to hold while separated and joined together. It doesn't look ergonomic but they fit in hands naturally.

-Motion tech is on par with Oculus Touch and Vive controllers. Very accurate. Way better than Wii motion plus and PS Move controllers.

    -it detects subtle movements.

    Switch Pro Controller

-Has everything the Joycon have including HD rumble and motion controls.

    -No IR pointer.

    -D-pad is iconic Nintendo dpad.

    -Very comfortable

    - Analog triggers

-Battery life is great but not 80 hours like the Wii U pro. Happy with battery life.

    Developing for Switch
    -Very happy with it

    -Easy to develop for

-Anything she wants to do she can. No limits. Toolset is great.

    -Can't talk specs.

    MyNintendo and Virtual Console

-MyNintendo tracks all your 3DS and Wii U purchases. Not your Wii ones.

-Her theory on VC is if you bought a VC game on 3DS or Wii U you'll pay an upgrade fee like you did ON Wii U. However, if you bought the same VC game on both Wii U and 3DS you'll get the Switch VC game for free. If you only bought it on Wii VC you're SOL.
    Online subscription

-the free game a month is exactly like PS+. As long as you download within that free month it's yours to keep as long as you're subscribed.
-the free download a month is chosen by Nintendo because if they offered all VC games with online the player base would be split and you'd never find enough people for a match. Whereas with this method, everyone who's downloading the game is part of the same player pool.
Why VC sucks on Wii U

-Nintendo pays a license to put games on VC but Nintendo has to approach publishers and choose which games go on VC. So anytime you complain about a certain Sega or Konami game not on VC it's not Konami or Sega's fault, it's because Nintendo didn't pick that certain game to be on the platform.

    Wii U never made money

-Every unit of Wii U sold was at a loss.

-Gamepad cost to build including Labour was $95.

-Wii U console itself costed $140-150. Add in shipping and retailer cut and there's no room for price drops.

-Switch price is setup for future price cuts that are still profitable. Ditto the expensive accessories.
    Dock
-it's not just a passthrough. You won't see third party docks. It has proprietary technology. Not just an empty shell that charges and passthrough hdmi. That's why it's expensive.

-It has to read that the switch is docked, switch the signal to hdmi (since the switch doesn't have an hdmi port on the unit itself) and then hdmi to TV.

Mr E did I think. Typical GameStop.

I didn't use click and collect. I pre-ordered in store a few days before last week's presentation (paid 20 and had to go back a few days later to pay another 30 after getting a phone call from them).

other sources like GameXplain etc have pointed to the
Switch Pro Controller not having Analog triggers
