Actually muffin top is all the rage now as men's pant styles are getting tighter and tighter.
Great contribution to the thread there.

I'm pretty sure anyone's idea of dress sense is highly subjective. While I do my best, the most important things a) not being naked) b) not being too cold or too warm c) being comfortable.

In other words, not to impress you.

I can imagine the fashionistas posting in this thread wearing skinny denims that cling to the calf and make it and the thigh look like they're the same size. At the end of the jeans that are too short, They're wearing a bold coloured sock with brown pointy shoes. Then on the upper half they'll have a crisp white shirt tucked into the jeggings, a tweed navy jacket, maybe even the dreaded waistcoat in a nod to Conor McGregor. Flat cap optional. I despair for men who think they look good like this.

Right, obviously those guys are idiots got wearing those things but obviously you think everyone should be able to wear what they like without judgement.

The number of posters who are essentially saying 'fashion was cool when I was young and fashionable, but now that I'm middle aged and a bit overweight, fashionable people are stupid'.

Self awareness is not required, it seems

I don't wear skinny jeans. I just think boot cut are really awful looking. Why do you think it is that only in Ireland do people wear boot cut jeans?

There's a new Jean coming out soon it's skinny so far down with a bit of kick flare at the bottom....

All you trendy dudes will love em....

The fashion industry makes my teeth itch! Wear this, don't wear that. You must have this hairstyle, etc etc etc. It turns people into products.

Really my point is that this sort of look is on trend now. But that doesn't make it nice. And presumably the men who take an entire look head to toe from some #trending list are fully self aware.
They think it looks fantastic, some will agree, some won't.

I don't think it's the fact that men are middle aged and overweight. I'm 30 and I think what's currently considered mens fashion is awful. I went back to college last year and the amount of ankle grazer jeans and the lads never wore socks it was really bizarre.
Even for presentations the suits were so tight and those bloody waistcoats (sorry I just really don't like 3 piece suits.)

And this is only what I'm thinking. Everyone judges you whether you threw on a tracksuit or a shiny suit, and one doesn't determine a more positive or negative reaction. It's all a question of personal taste.

The word for buying for men in Ireland is XL or XXL. Nuffield said.

I know, but people complain if I wear nothing but a condom.

Everything I don't like is either woke or fascist - possibly both - pick one.

It's by definition fashonable which is the closest thing you'll find to 'nice'.

So wouldn't you let them have their fashion without resentment?

Just found this thread. Aghast at the fact people are defending boot cut jeans. Why are they exclusively an Irish plague? Make it stop.

I can't wait until they come back (which they likely will) and you'll all be raving about them being cool.

It always seems mad to me how anybody can decide that clothes they like / are comfortable in / do the job can now suddenly be awful because magazines and the people conned by fashion suddenly disapprove.

If people can comprehend the mere concept of exercising a little bit of manners when in public then yes, the above opinion goes without saying.

I think many 'fashionable' people only feel good when they are putting others down (they fail to remember that they won't remain young forever). One would wonder what standards they're using (perhaps from fashion dictator programmes on TV which they seemingly follow religiously) - well if that is the case, it's pathetic - such people should learn to do their own thinking and dress in something other than what is fitting with the Hunger Games. BTW, I'm middle aged, but not overweight - I'll wear what I like.

I wear boot cut as I can sit in them without my balls being threatened. Someone got me regular jeans; grand until I tried to sit down; no room behind the knees; couldn't sit in them!

    +1

"Practicality" - I guess this is a word the fashion industry has seldom heard of...

Your balls benefit from the bootcut? You might need to to see a doctor about that if your balls are near your ankles!

Although loose fitting trousers are not necessarily boot cut, I don't think it is too difficult to reason that loose fit jeans is what he was actually referring to!

I do let them!! Not in my head though, in the same way that I resent tracksuit bottoms outside the gym. But I leave it to my inner monologue.
You don't want the men becoming too self aware and doubting themselves on one opinion.

Can I just jump in here and say I have always admired the Irish man's abilty to at least dress for the prevailing weather. :)

I have often driven through the city at night and seen many girls, almost blue with the cold, in january or december, in what is effectively underwear (tight mini skirt and a bralet), while a guy stands beside her with jeans, shirt, a winter coat and maybe a scarf.

I know some people who slavishly follow fashion. One guy posts pictures on Facebook asking if he should buy this shirt with this jeans or this shirt with this trousers. He's a clown in a lot of ways.

Most people aren't slaves to fashion and most people don't go to the charity shop and buy the first item at random euther. I just pay general attention to fashion to know that the 80-90 had baggy clothes with multi-colours and right now favours neat cuts with block colours. You have to buy clothes from time to time, so might as well know what's generally in fashion and pick what you like and what's comfortable from those broad parameters. Its not rocket science. And you don't need to go to extremes.

It doesn't mean you have to throw out your clothes because they were fashonable last week but not this week. That would be ridiculous. People do notice fashion so you might as well do fashion your own way. People always look better when they're comfortable and reasonably fashonable.

I get you, I get you. Those are normally just called 'jeans that fit'.

The poster alluded to the idea that men wearing skinny jeans must have small balls. Childish I know. This notion of judging people based on fashion seems to cut both ways.

I'm not fashionable. I have a hard time buying clothes, clothes shops stress me out, I end up liking one or two things and wearing them every day. Even if I wore a black bag every day and nothing else, I'll still say that boot cut jeans look f*cking awful on everyone.
I've never owned a pair of skinny jeans or jeans that strangled my b*llocks.
This is a thread about dress sense, hence why I'm voicing my opinion.

The only people that notice fashion are the ones that follow it.

Personally I think its hilarious that one decade people can say ripped jeans are unfashionable and then a couple decades later be wearing them.

It's takes some type of nut job that needs others to tell them what to wear.

No offense meant, just each to their own ... just my own point of view. And yes - i'd wear whatever I feel like - even if it is Boot cut jeans :D

Yup. Bootcut, my balls have breathing room. Regular, when I sit down, there's little to no room for them.

Huh? Ah, no. Meant regular. Most of the people I see wearing skinny jeans have a skinny figure and thus fit into the skinny jeans. I can fit into the regular jeans, but there's not much room for free movement.

    =-=

My fashion; black. Black jeans, black shirts, black socks, dark underwear. The odd comical coloured t-shirt, but mainly black. I like black. I also like heavy metal, so they go well together.

Never a truer word said. Most people don't pay too much attention to their appearance. Once the clothes are clean, comfortable and in a colour they like.

Fashion changes with the wind. What's popular in January is not popular in April. Why bother keep up? It all comes around in a circle anyways.

There's no point paying attention to fashion when you only go clothes shopping every two years :pac:

Cake, and grief counseling, will be available at the conclusion of the test

Fashion and appearance has signified how people view themselves since ever. Total lack of Interest in appearance is usually present in mental illness like depression - not exclusively indicative of depression but rarely absent in depression.

The extreme ends of fashion change with the season, most people can navigate more general trends so they get to pick clothes that are fashonable, comfortable and get the wear out of them.

Going religiously for the cheapest option without caring what it looks like is the other extreme to changing fashion with the wind. Most people get on grand in the middle.

There is a huge chasm between total lack of interest in appearance and total lack of interest in fashion.
As I said, most people are quite happy once the clothes are clean, comfortable and in a colour they like. If you think that signifies depression, then I presume most of the population is depressed.

Personally, I feel people who take an over-interest in fashion, especially those who are critical of what other people wear, are self-obsessed, vain and may have their own mental issues and inadequacies to deal with. Fair enough if you want to spend the money to look "on-trend", but don't be condescending to those who can't be bothered. It's comparable to looking down on people who earn less than you or are less educated or less healthy. Just because something is important to you doesn't mean that it should be important to everyone.

I'm so confused because fashion is about standing out but if everybody wears the same stuff nobody stands out like zebras to a lion. Comfort is no1 for me skinny jeans are a no because I have a male physic which means calf muscles and genitals on the outside.
