Exactly. Better times now. Blacks can use whites toilets and sit in the whites sections of restaurants, and whites can wear blackface without being acused of being racist.

I was just sitting down to watch another superlative offering by Rte of dancing with the stars when I was shocked and offended to see one of the competitors was in blackface.

Tell it to the Utah Jazz, Snowflake.

Not comparable really, as one was in the UK and Ireland and the other was in the USA.

I'm not getting drawn into another argument about weather it's racist or offensive or otherwise. Fact is Black and White Minstrels or anything like that won't be shown on Rte again. Rte made this decision 20 or 30 years ago so it can't be blamed on modern people being over sensitive.

    20 or 30 Years Ago ?

Were people over-sensitive back then also ?

Men, it has been well said, think in herds; it will be seen that they go mad in herds, while they only recover their senses slowly, and one by one.

It couldve been a fun thread.

People blame the mods for all the fun being gone when actually it's all you shítes who are too on guard to notice good sarcasm.

Be shíts to eachother in real life, and use online to unwind from that. Wasn't that the way before?

    That's the one ,

He was dark last week and when asked about the fake tan he said had used enough to cover all the cast

Had a quick look at the programme on foot of this. He presumably blacked his face from the utter shame of appearing on it.

There'e a whole thread devoted to this in the TV forum, and I must say it is very funny seeing that fella blacked up like a Black & White Minstrel (for those of you who remember them) ....

Several of tomorrows UK & Irish papers also carry pictures of him in his crazy OTT Fake Tan gone mad look :D:D:D:D

Really was very funny to watch tonight, although I'm not sure that the producers would have wanted the coulour of his face to be the main talking point !!!

Who the hell is in charge of makeup? that's what I'd want to know.

It isnt. Everyone has a right to choose their skin colour. We live in a world of equality.
Being offended at people blacking up is racist - that is like saying that black people have an exclusive right to that skin tone, and other races have no right to it. Pure racism. I though Ireland had moved beyond this type of stuff. Blackface totally OK in any open, modern and non-racist society. Get with the times.

Choose skin colour??? What a blessing eh!

Ah yes I picked purple with green spots at the exact moment of conception.

RTE were as usual behind the times. The black and white minstrels were ended on UK TV 40 years ago.

I was watching a programme called "it was alright in the 70s" and the casual sexism, racism and homophobia was pretty bad. But we can't really judge stuff from over a generation ago by today's standards.

I was looking to get my doors that colour. It's Hughie from BB though, what can you expect.

OK I thought this was hyperbole but that actually crosses the line from tan to blackface
