I was just sitting down to watch another superlative offering by Rte of dancing with the stars when I was shocked and offended to see one of the competitors was in blackface.

I haven't seen it but guessed as much. RTE banned the Black and White Minstrels about 30 years ago. Can't imagine them allowing anything racist like that

Orangeing up is the new racism.

It's ok if it's done tastefully and with a certain amount of sophistication! 🌚

Fake tan overload. That's not blackface.

Try googling the history of blackface.
If RTE still had black faced minstrels it would only take one complaint to have them fined. It's banned by most tv stations around the world.
You'll notice Lyons tea haven't done minstrels advertising in 20 or 30 years or so either.

He knows. He just forgot how mind-numbingly literal the denizens of AH are.

Gosh....I remember watching the Black and White Ministrel Show with my mammy....on a Black and White TV set mind you...come to think of it...Perhaps we should have complained ???

Men, it has been well said, think in herds; it will be seen that they go mad in herds, while they only recover their senses slowly, and one by one.

It isnt. Everyone has a right to choose their skin colour. We live in a world of equality.
Being offended at people blacking up is racist - that is like saying that black people have an exclusive right to that skin tone, and other races have no right to it. Pure racism. I though Ireland had moved beyond this type of stuff. Blackface totally OK in any open, modern and non-racist society. Get with the times.

Different times back then. It was only a few years before that again and "Blacks" couldn't use "Whites" toilets, sit in the "White" section of restaurants or sit up front of the bus.

Not comparable really, as one was in the UK and Ireland and the other was in the USA.

Superlative and RTE in the same sentence has to be a piss take.
