Shocker... Nintendo forum has Nintendo fans.

There is a difference between fans and fanboys imo which I'm seeing in here at the moment with all sorts of toys being thrown out of the pram.

    Sure yeah.

This will be the first 'portable' Nintendo console since the GBA to launch with no rayman game.

The prices have not gone down well on HotUKDeals.

Seriously? The 3DS is well supported, and is home to some of the best games I've played.

The 3DS had a handful of good titles, but they diminished in quality, only really spiking for Pokemon. Fire Emblem Awakening was fantastic, but then they muddied the series by making Fates a two-game release. Bravely Default? Great, but Bravely Second was poorly received and from what I understand, didn't sell well. But honestly, the library of games they released wasn't good for a console that struggled from the get-go. But in terms of long-term support, the console hasn't really received that much attention (the New 3DS is to blame for that, with games like Xenoblade Chronicles being an exclusive to that console and Hyrule Warriors being a total mess on the older version of the 3DS). The Zelda remakes sold well, but they Ocarina of time didn't sell the console initially. It's not the worst offending Nintendo console, but it really wasn't all that well supported when you consider the DS had a huge library and was consistently supported.

Incredible amount of wrong there. The 3DS has far and away the best and most diverse line up of any system at the moment and probably only beaten by the ds in terms of how many amazing games on it.

I just hope the switch can carry the torch otherwise I can see the switch going the way of the wiiu

What? So this forum is one big circle jerk for all things Nintendo? Sounds like a bieber fan club from a few years back

Not at all, but with stuff like 'Nintendo is finished' where does discussion go from there? You don't want circle jerks but you're grand with discussion killer stuff like that. It's utterly pointless.

Okay but dear lord whole tone got so negative. Lets get lighter tone. Sure the price sucks for most especially to compete with X1 PS4. Sure the launch is bare. But thats only 2 big negatives for me and hopefully both be rectified by this time next year. How about balance it with some of positives which will win out long term.

Im sure theres loads of good 3rd party being worked on coming later this year and next year. E3 will tell all. And Nintendo have loads big hitters too come E3. It wont simply be Mario in Q4.

Right now im looking forward to some quality time with zelda along with likes Street fighter and Bomberman until we get MarioKart and Splatoon and by then it be E3 time and likely have Virtual console info as well soon.

Woah wait hold on now settle in calm down shut the door

The switch doesn't have many launch games? The ones they do are a bit rubbish? God that sounds like the PS4... which sold 60 million units since launch...

Relax people, rushing out games for launch is worse than leaving them in development for a little longer to ensure they play properly. Christ you'd only be here moaning the games aren't finished if they rushed them 🙄

Why does everyone think what's been announced today is the final launch list? It's the first day. More games will be announced for launch week, physical and download over the coming weeks. And loads more will be added to the launch window. Everyone calm the f.uck down lol.

I paid 200 to gamestop for my pre-order at lunch. Feck it, I know I'll end up getting it by the summer, might as well just get it day one and play Zelda day one too.

I do think that 1 2 switch (or whatever it is called) game should be a pack in. I wouldn't buy it. But maybe the mammies will.

I can't wait to play Zelda on the big screen then get the train to work and home continuing my game. Amazing!

There is a lot of things going on with the controllers TBH which I'm not too arsed with, but, neat :)

It's just easy, cheap, point scoring like Nintendo are for kids. Haven't seen too much sh*t stirrer posts but there definitely are a few.

It's overpriced, but it's unique, starting line up is no worse than most new console releases in recent years.

It It could well die a death and be unsuccessful like the Wii U but it's not even out yet and people are wringing their hands together crying woe.

Oh well, give me an easy life and a peaceful death.

That's it really, it could fail or it could be a success. The prices are a bit prohibitive, the storage will be a problem for some and the launch looks a bit light at the moment but hands on with the hardware seem to be mostly very positive, even with games that some have dismissed like Arms and what seems the hidden gem, Snipperclips. It just seems at times there's wannabe Pachters wanting to make absolute views on something that isn't even out yet.

Any mention yet of the media capabilities of the Switch as a tablet?

Nintendo should just give up on the hardware and move on to licencing their collection of IP.

They keep having these needless up hill battles trying to gain a foothold in the console market. There is Sony with 60 million PS4 customers ready to go. License the games to Sony. Over night Nintendo would finally be an incredible success with very little effort.

I actually don't think it's what they should do but I'm giving you the tanks because it's what I'd love them to do being primarily a playstation user.

Mario and Pokémon on the playstation would be amazing. For me anyway.

    .

Why would they. They sold over 60 million 3DS and a paulty 13 million WiiUs but by merging both their audiences into The Switch and the Dev teams they can still continue to make huge amounts of money if it takes off.

Heck look at the Japan Charts last week. 14 of 20 top sellers are from Nintendo. Hardly disaster time. if they get half the 3DS folks to purchase the Switch will be a success and big profit.

Also remember Nintendo are making money on 2 fronts as the hardware manufacturer but also as developers too. They making way more from their software along even on a small install base than some big studios like Platiumn or Capcom but Nintendo dont get half credit they deserve. Even Wii U they made load of money but people only see the failure due to number of consoles sold.

It's a pass for me in buying at launch. With Zelda available on Wii U it just seems pointless. I don't really want to play home console style games on the go. I used my D's/3ds for Layton/Phoenix wright/smaller experience type games. Big explore type games probably won't work for me on a smaller screen.

Personally, not having a huge library doesn't put me off. I'm not a constant gamer. 4 good games a year would do me.

Objectively though I don't think it'll be successful. They're still chasing that Wii gold and IMO that was a one off

It looks like a great little puzzle game. Seems much better than Arms or 1-2-Switch. I wonder will it be a full €60

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,014 ✭✭✭✭Corholio

The Joy-Con grip that comes with it doesn't charge the Joy-Cons it seems, its just a grip. You can buy a different grip that has a USB-C port. This seems an odd choice, even if you can probably just charge the Joy-Cons by docking them with the screen.

I couldn't care less about the launch titles, it's the price point and the lack of storage along with the gimmick of playing games on the go adding zero value to me as to why I'll be giving this a miss.

I personally think if this fails like the Wii-U then they will bow out of the console market. Even this decision below has me questioning what are they thinking since they are offering a service to rival PS or Xbox
Monthly free classic game on Switch is indeed only available for that month

But I'll wait to they announce the cost as anything over €20 is too much.

The reveal trailer for Ultra Street Fighter II shows it's a spruced up HD remix (you can toggle back to the old graphics, and, I assume, like HDR, the original Super Turbo balance) with a couple extra modes. There seems to be a co-op mutliplayer, similar to the 'Dramatic Battle' stuff from the Alpha series. Say what you please about it being the 7th iteration (or 8th, depending on your definitions) of Street Fighter 2, but the prospect of unhooking the joycons and going head-to-head with a mate is pretty attractive.

Playing on the go isn't just a gimmick in fairness, its a dream come true for me I must say. A lot of Wii u owners always loved the off screen play but the drawback was you couldn't bring it to the jax or to bed or too work! With this you can. Personally I drive a taxi and I was very close at one stage buying a second Wii U to install in the car. Now this solves those problems!

The console was only properly introduced today, the presentation said there are 80 games on the way for the switch, i would imagine now that nintendo has opened the gates, that more games companies will be able to announce thre upcoming games in the 7 week run up to the consoles launch. Be patient and its a good opportunity to those that haven't been in the wiiu generation and will now have the pleasure of playing some of the best wiiu games rejigged for the switch. A zelda launch in march, mario kart deluxe a month later and splatoon 2 in May/june. Im really looking forward to them and that intresting looking mario game in time for Christmas :)
