It would have been so easy for Nintendo to hit this out of the park. The complete lack of VC mentions is concerning. While I don't want it to be used for that primarily, the console is powerful enough to play their entire back catalog, and the lack of any real news regarding the VC is very disappointing.

...only to die out and be a massive waste of time for those who bought the console as nothing will release on it, like the WiiU/3DS.

Seriously? The 3DS is well supported, and is home to some of the best games I've played.

Virtual Console news is coming, just because we havent heard yet doesn't mean they're not doing it. I'm not confident about them restoring our older purchases though, based on their cash grabbing on every other aspect of the Switch so far.

Far too pricey a console for what they're offering out the gate. Cheapest I can find is about €333.50 online, but Zelda is going for nearly €70 so that barely offsets the price.

Arms looks like a terrible tech-demo they're charging money for. Given Nintendo's history, this will either sell incredibly well (and judging by their artificial limitation of stock, they'll use the 'sold out' excuse to fabricate hype, as they're the kings of undersupply) and then fade over time given the total lack of support, like the Wii, or it'll sell poorly out the gate and over time will gain some form of support, only to die out and be a massive waste of time for those who bought the console as nothing will release on it, like the WiiU/3DS.

The online subscription is crap too, NES and SNES games? For a fixed monthly fee? Nonsense. No new Metroid title? Ridiculous.

I honestly think the best thing they could have done is release it as a €200-250 pricepoint, reduce games down to €45 a pop, and have a bunch of games at release to choose from. No online subs, redesign and refine their online storefront, and emphasise on constant reductions to their digital games over time, something they'd failed to do prior to this. I can't see myself, or a lot of people I know, buying it out the gate. Other consoles have larger libraries from first to third parties and the Switch is starting out limping. They needed to come out swinging but they're doing the classic Nintendo thing of half-assing it, assuming their past failures won't effect them now.

But it's 330 in GameStop and Symths. Not looking very hard.

Maybe I'm wrong but I thought they said last night that the Switch can play VC games from every previous system.

Ya those large memory cards are crazy expensive. Buying a 32GB memory card is no good.

    31 UK for 128GB, that's will do...

I pre-ordered on Amazon at €330 at lunch time. Best place to do it since they don't charge you. And they're shipping to Ireland now unlike this morning.

I've not watched it yet, just read stories, but we should be hearing that GameCube games are now on the VC with this generation of console, and we should be able to get a Wii U game on the Switch (game depending, as some will rely on the gamepad) the way Wii games ran on the Wii U. I'm still pre-ordered, but I'm just expecting more than what I'm seeing.

I must have missed that, I didn't hear anything about the VC.

And the chances of getting one from either won't be great if the undersupplying holds up (given that some stores report 35 consoles maximum, and Amazon are already sold out) - so less well known, but trustworthy online storefronts are the next best bet. The price is still an issue, 330 is far too much as a baseline.

Bomberman looks pretty rough. An angled camera that doesn't show the whole map all at once is not what Bomberman needs.

That's the minimum you'd need. I've used 120GB on my 500GB Wii U hard drive and I don't buy retail games digitally. 256GB Micro SD cards take a big jump in price.

It's bomberman for chriiiiiist sake. How is this even a feature of a new hardware release in 2017?!?!:D

We're getting a new Tales Of game from Namco Bandai. No other details yet.

Joy-cons are synced simply by sliding them onto the screen.

Hahaha. Looks like Bomberman might have pay to play micro-transactions.

€160 for a switch with GameStop if you trade a 500GB PS4 Slim or Xbox One S

The 3DS had a handful of good titles, but they diminished in quality, only really spiking for Pokemon. Fire Emblem Awakening was fantastic, but then they muddied the series by making Fates a two-game release. Bravely Default? Great, but Bravely Second was poorly received and from what I understand, didn't sell well. But honestly, the library of games they released wasn't good for a console that struggled from the get-go. But in terms of long-term support, the console hasn't really received that much attention (the New 3DS is to blame for that, with games like Xenoblade Chronicles being an exclusive to that console and Hyrule Warriors being a total mess on the older version of the 3DS). The Zelda remakes sold well, but they Ocarina of time didn't sell the console initially. It's not the worst offending Nintendo console, but it really wasn't all that well supported when you consider the DS had a huge library and was consistently supported.

The 3DS didn't sell 60 million units (as of Dec 2015) by having a bad games library.

    holy sh!!!!t that's a god awful lineup.

I really hope that's not all we get this year. Pokemon stars would be nice.

Christ. So it could be almost two months after launch until there's another decent game released, in Mario Kart?

Today has been such a downer for Switch news.

This time yesterday I was so excited at what was to come.
Now I'm just deflated by what has transpired.

I was excited about getting a new console and had pegged on Switch. Now that Switch has disappointed I still want a new console... I might look at PS4/XB1, something I'd never considered before. :(

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 27,355 ✭✭✭✭super_furry

Really, really disappointing line-up. Nintendo are repeating all their mistakes of the past.

3DS had a worse start and that console is fabulous. So I'll be happy with Zelda for launch.
