Do people really go that much overboard with alcohol over Christmas that they feel they have to do a month on the dry?
I don't (no more so than usual anyway!) so therefore a dry January is irrelevant to me.
Considering the amount of crap I eat in December, January does offer a time to bring things back to basics a bit more - although that still hasn't happened yet - still in Christmas mode!

Well yeah, obviously. People consume so much booze with all the parties etc, and eat a lot, put on weight, and generally feel gross after the festive season. So trying to be clean for a few weeks seems like a great idea. Idea being the key word.

Ah. I don't drink more alcohol than I normally would so figured it was a bit of a fad.

Take a look around our cities and town centres around Xmas time at night and you'll see that a large portion of the population go absolutely cray cray.

I drank alcohol almost every day for two/three weeks over christmas and every weekend since end of November.

That's definitely not normal for me.

Off the Coke Zero/caffeine for 6 days now. The replacement Miwadi & sparkling water isn't cutting it. Headache is still there. The benefits would want to be worth it.

My favourite part of the world to get loaded. Specifically Poland, such a wonderful country. If we ever meet out there Peregrine the first pints of Lech are on me.

Agreed, had a mental night of drinking str8 shots without chaser in Krackov one night, was great, apart from having to get up at 5.30 to go in day trip to Auswatiz :(

I did it the other way around last time. Went to Auschwitz and felt the need to get pissed after. One of the strangest but most fun nights I've ever had.

Somewhere in the middle we ended up in a bar where the owner took a serious liking to us and we didn't pay for any drink as long as we poured our own.

Ended with a free taxi ride back to the hotel from a taxi man who was in stitches at the two of us when we told him where we were going. He pulled 100 metres up the road and told us we had arrived!

Same night we lost a kebab but "found it" in ny friend's handbag the next morning.

Aaaanyway. No drink so far for me :)

In an absolute jocker. Dying. At least I managed to get out and about a bit, saw some seals in Howth, they are great. Back to the drawing board now.

Every day?! How'd you manage that?!?!?! I was probably out every weekend since November myself but I'd be out regularly anyway.

I had a couple of glasses of wine over Christmas, and was out Stephen's night, but other than that...... I just ate Quality Street!!!!

By raising a glass to her lips maybe? It pains me to say it, but I've probably gone months drinking every day. Back on the wagon now though!

I'm not sure I understand the question!

It's fairly easy to have a glass of wine every night. I'm not talking getting pissed, just consuming some amount of alcohol.

Well 11 Days into Dry January and I'd love a glass of wine. But I will stay sober

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,911 ✭✭✭Dave_The_Sheep

During the week it doesn't bother me, but Friday/Saturday are tough enough at times. With the rugby on tomorrow evening, that'll be a tough one, regardless of if I'm at the RDS or at home. Feels weird not having a few beers watching the game.

I had some wine on the 2nd since it was still technically the holidays, but given I stopped drinking after Christmas on the 28th, I figure it cancels out. Still a dry January!
