Yup. I have been on a motorway and had an elderly person drive past me on the wrong side.

But sure its us young males that are causing all the issues....

    Bit disingenuous.

No one said young males are causing all the issues.

No disputing that, i'd have thought they'd impose some sort of a financial penalty like happens on the M50 if you are late paying the toll.

Well I'm sorry it has to be the stupidest thing one could do.

Pull in at the side drive to booth with attendant he wouldn't be the 1st to arrive at a booth without cash or a card. They can take reg and name.

When you are elderly and confused you might have some empathy

Well informers don't do it for nothing.
You're probably right, but are they really allowed drive round with no  NCT and insurance, given the risks this creates for the rest of the population?

The pro's outweigh the cons in their eyes.

They can catch the bigger fish with the information being passed on.

So far it has resulted in multiple convictions for major offences, not petty stuff.

Were I to attach any articles to prove this I may as well just attach my real name to the posts, it would be that obvious.

Overtaking a marked car? This person really wanted to see the inside of a Garda station.

    This too shall pass.

What is the scenario if you approach with no cash or card? I've never heard of it happening.

happened to me before my card was gamma..no cash on me and no attendant to help me out...luckily some lovely woman 6 cars back gave me 2 euro..then again she was stuck in the queue waiting for me so figured it was worth it :)
but yeah they can take your reg and you can pay it online.

Sorry, but posting of public domain news articles doesn't identify anyone in any circumstance. Do you reckon you're the only person that read the article?

I'm not arguing with you about whether this happens or not. I genuinely don't know, and I can see both sides. I'm just looking for some validation in terms of a Garda policy or a case history or two?

It names the individuals, the addresses etc.

All I'll say is it is in a well known well publicised area on the north side of Cork city..

Probably best to get back to the topic.

If you want to discuss it further I'll do so off thread.

Detained a vehicle; what had the vehicle done?

Its time the authorities got strict, if you are caught without any insurance, tax, NCT, the car goes to auction to get some revenue for the state. If its such a pile of crap that its not worth it, then crush it immediately, no argument.

Plus fine the owner. If they are on welfare, take it out of their benefits until fine is paid.

So are they still jailing people with unpaid fines? I dont suppose you have a link for it do you? I'd love to hear the full explanation for the decision.
