With the right songs, this Robert Zimmerman chap could have quite a career ahead of him.

By the way, strictly not a BeebRock show I know, but, if anyone sees a listing for that Shane MacGowan documentary on Sky Arts, can they post here, please? I seem to keep missing it.... :o

    Hey BandMember,

Friday on Sky Arts at 10.30pm!
    SHANE MACGOWAN: A WRECK REBORN

Documentary charting the restoration of the Pogues frontman's teeth and shedding light on the lifestyle that led to their dismal state of repair. The hope is that the dental reconstruction will bring back his old singing voice and MacGowan tests out his new gnashers with a performance of Christmas anthem Fairytale of New York

In fairness it's not great. I say that as a fan and long time friend of Shane's.

He should never have done it. He had spent 4 months in hospital with a broken pelvis previous to the teeth operation. Someone getting a job as big as that done dhould be in the full of their health. He ended up getting double pneumonia not long after.

Thanks a million SkidX - great spot and great memory!! :D

Surely it's time for one of the million documentaries about "Fairytale of New York" to start popping up on some station?

Sorry to hear that it didn't go well for him sligojoek, I hope that he has recovered fully at this stage? From what VMC wrote in her column lately, he seems to be teetotal these days and looking after himself?

In my opinion, it's an absolute disgrace the way that man has been treated and regarded in this country - he's written some of the greatest lyrics of all time, in any genre, and his revered among the best in the business, yet the media, critics (most of them) and the public just seem to stereotype him as some p***head. The man is a talented genius, wasted in a time of PC mass marketed drivel. I could say a lot more, but I won't.

Anyway, in an effort to stop myself taking the thread off topic for the second week in a row (sorry!!:o), back to the music documentaries..... ;)

Ah sure, the occasional ramble off topic never did any harm around here! It's good to add a bit more colour to some of the stories and characters that the TV shows feature

Anyway, good news for all followers of the Church of Dave Clark - that programme he made about himself is on again. If he had just toned down the self love a little bit it might have been watchable. He spends most it of trying to hammer home the point that his band were very briefly slightly bigger than The Beatles in America. Not much else on but TOTP is well represented in various incarnations, lets have a look ...

    Thursday
9.30pm The Windmill Lane Sessions (TG4)
Performances by some of today's leading Irish and international music acts, featuring Wyvern Lingo, Tucan and the Walls

    Friday
    7.30pm & 12.55am Top of The Pops 1982 #35
Kid Jensen introduces performances by Blue Zoo, A Flock of Seagulls, Clannad, Dionne Warwick, Donna Summer, Marvin Gaye and Eddy Grant. Plus, a dance performance by Zoo. November 11th 1982, Full details here http://thetvdb.com/tab=episode&seriesid=78332&seasonid=653323&id=5507778&lid=7

9pm The Dave Clark Five and More: Glad All Over
Documentary looking at the impact and legacy of the London band on the American music scene in the 1960s, when they spearheaded the British invasion alongside the Beatles, notching 15 consecutive US hit singles and selling more than 100 million records. Featuring archive TV performances, interviews with band members and footage of them on tour and in the studio, as well as contributions by Paul McCartney, Elton John, Ian McKellen, Stevie Wonder, Sharon and Ozzy Osbourne, Bruce Springsteen, Whoopi Goldberg, Dionne Warwick and Twiggy

10.55pm & 2.25am Dusty Springfield at the BBC
A tribute to the renowned London-born pop diva, featuring BBC archive footage of some of Dusty's most famous performances from 1961 to 1995. The programme also offers a chance to relive the singer's story, from her folk beginnings with the Springfields, through to her Motown homage years and her collaboration with Pet Shop Boys in the late 1980s. Also includes the star's duets with Tom Jones and Mel Torme

    1.30am Definitely Dusty
Documentary revisiting the career of Dusty Springfield, the renowned pop diva famous for classic songs such as You Don't Have to Say You Love Me and Son of a Preacher Man. Archive footage shot in both the UK and the US provides an illuminating insight into her glamorous but private personal life, and contributions from her protective inner circle of friends highlight the Dusty behind the panda eyes and blonde beehive. Includes interviews with Tom Jones, Elton John, Burt Bacharach, Lulu and Neil Tennant

    Saturday
    4.40pm TOTP2 Christmas Christmas 2011 (GOLD)
Straight from the BBC vaults, Mark Radcliffe introduces classic Christmas hits from the likes of Roy Wood's Wizzard and 70s glam heroes Slade to the smooth 80s vibe of Wham!'s Last Christmas, the melancholic duet of Fairy Tale of New York by Shane MacGowan and Kirsty MacColl plus from the Welsh Elvis Shakin' Stevens, his enduring number one Christmas hit Merry Christmas Everyone.

Three Beatles are also represented with Paul's catchy Wonderful Christmas Time from 1979, some rare footage of Ringo romping in the snow performing his 1971 solo hit It Don't Come Easy and John and Yoko's abiding anti war protest song Happy Xmas (War Is Over).
Plus a rare treat with previously lost footage of David Bowie performing The Jean Genie from Top of the Pops in 1973.

    10.30pm Top of The Pops 1982 #35
    Same as Friday

11pm Top of The Pops: Number Ones
A selection of chart-topping hits from the BBC archives, originally shown in 2012 to mark the 60th anniversary of the UK singles chart. Featuring tracks from the Bee Gees, T-Rex, Donna Summer, John Lennon, Culture Club, Spice Girls, James Blunt, Rihanna and Adele

    Midnight: Agnetha: Abba and After
Documentary telling the story of Agnetha Faltskog's music career as both a member of the Swedish pop group and a successful solo singer in her own right. Including interviews with Gary Barlow, who features on her 2013 album, plus Abba's Bjorn Ulvaeus and Benny Andersson, DJ Tony Blackburn and lyricist Tim Rice

    1am Kings of 70s Romance
Lesley Joseph narrates a documentary celebrating unlikely sex symbols from the world of pop in the 1970s, when the songs of Gilbert O'Sullivan, Barry White, Leo Sayer, David Soul and Demis Roussos conjured up images of candle-lit dinners, red roses and cosy nights in. Featuring contributions by Gloria Hunniford and Martha Kearney

2am Burt Bacharach: A Life in Song
Coverage of a unique concert staged at London's Royal Festival Hall celebrating the music of songwriter and performer Burt Bacharach. Some of his most famous songs are performed by artists including Alfie Boe, Sophie Ellis-Bextor, Shaun Escoffery, Rebecca Ferguson, Justin Hayward, Michael Kiwanuka, Laura Mvula and Joss Stone. Burt himself also performs, accompanied by his band, and chats to Michael Grade about the art of songwriting and shares the stories behind some of his best-loved hits

    Sunday
    9.55pm TOTP2: Christmas 2013 (GOLD)
Mark Radcliffe delves into the BBC vaults to present a selection of Christmas music, featuring perennial classics from the likes of John & Yoko, Slade, Wizzard, Wham!, Jona Lewie, the Pogues featuring Kirsty MacColl and Paul McCartney. Plus, there is a festive performance by Boyzone, a peek at the Killers' annual Christmas video and archive performances by Teardrop Explodes, Darts, Mud, Emeli Sande, the Hollies and Jimmy Osmond

Sky Arts has The 1979 Johnny Cash Christmas Special (Friday, 5.40pm), that's usually very watchable. They are also in the middle of a Sinatra season at the moment, all sorts of Francis Albert related shows if you like that.

They also have a tribute programme for some of those we have lost in 2016 "featuring archive interviews and performances from stars including David Bowie, Prince and Keith Emerson, as well as the reflections of fellow musicians and journalists". (Saturday 10pm) Maybe they should wait until January 1st to draw a line under this years carnage, Keith Emerson is one of those featured in that show, sadly. Here's a video of him a few years ago in a Pub joining in with a sing song. Hard to see Dave Clark doing the same ...

That Dave Clark documentary......creepy doesn't begin to describe it.... He's a great self publicist though, but the fact that he owns the rights to a lot of archive footage which he keeps locked away unless someone gives him huge sums of money is something that should have been addressed. It's like someone buying the rights to all of Scorsese's movies and only watching them at home on their telly.

That tribute show on Sunday night should be interesting, although if I was a male celebrity, I would be counting down the seconds until 2017 arrives!

Finally, WTF is that Keith Emerson clip about??? It's a bit mad! :pac::pac::pac:

A Flock Of Seagulls - underrated methinks, due to everybody going on about 'that' hairstyle...first two albums are as good as any other band from that era.

Cheers BM. He's in much better form now. He's getting physio and has been off the drink and fags for the last few months. If he keeps improving he'll be getting a hip replacement in the new year.

As expected, we've passed through the second half of '82 quite quickly, largely due to there being more Yewtreed episodes than in the first half.

Also skipped, however, was the episode of 4 November '82, hosted by Mike Smith. Apparently, none of his episodes are going to be shown either - at least for now.

It means, of course, that the number of episodes from '83 that won't be shown has increased. It was already considerable enough, as eleven of them are Yewtreed:

24 February '83 (DLT alongside Andy Peebles)
5 May '83 (the 1000th episode, unsurprisingly featuring just about every Radio 1 DJ including Savile and DLT)
2 June '83 (Savile alongside Tony Blackburn)
16 June '83 (DLT alongside Mike Read)
21 July '83 (Savile alongside Pat Sharp)
18 August '83 (DLT alongside Gary Davies)
15 September '83 (Savile alongside Janice Long - talk about chalk and cheese...)
29 September '83 (DLT alongside Tommy Vance; also Zoo's last appearance)
27 October '83 (DLT alongside Tony Blackburn)
17 November '83 (Savile alongside Gary Davies)
1 December '83 (DLT alongside Steve Wright)

Not showing Smitty's episodes means that we'll also miss out on 6 January, 10 March, 4 August and 25 August, as well as the Christmas episode.

And we may, or may not, get 17 March - Tone's one other episode of '83. It depends on how comfortable the Beeb are about showing it - having only recently brought him back to Radio 2 after, ahem, letting him go in February:

I'd be very surprised if Tony Blackburn's episode wasn't shown. It would be odd to have him on Radio 2 while banned from BBC Four, and I don't think there's much appetite to blacklist anyone else without good reason.

The Mike Smith thing is a bit odd, before he died he apparently told the BBC he didn't want his episodes to be repeated.

That would make sense, but they got caught out in 2014 when Savile sneaked into shot and wasn't spotted. Maybe they think it's not worth the hassle anymore

    http://www.bbc.com/news/entertainment-arts-29308337
The BBC has apologised for airing an excerpt from a 1971 edition of Top of the Pops in which disgraced DJ Jimmy Savile was briefly shown.

Shown on 13 September on BBC Two, the footage appeared to show Savile wagging a finger at a female audience member.

"Unfortunately this brief appearance was missed," said the BBC after seven viewers complained.

"It was removed from iPlayer as soon as we were made aware and replaced with a re-edited version."

The footage of Savile, who died in 2011, was seen around 2315 BST in an edition of Top of the Pops 2.

I should have said nothing :o Although, I think plenty of other people spotted him too.
