Have you ever heard anyone describe themselves as a young professional though? It seems more like a term used to describe other people or a whole group of people.

Professional plumber? Professional poop scooper? Professional street sweeper?

If you mean in the sense that it usually takes about two weeks to undo the damage done by university and begin the process of making proper programmers out of them, then even I would tend to agree. Otherwise, be advised that the term "IT Professional" these days can be (ab)used to describe everyone from the tape-monkey to the VP of Engineering, and a cast of thousands in-between. :pac:

Oooft that reminds me, must change me tapes in the libraries

And then there's young 'Pigeon there, who is tape-monkey and executive VP of engineering at the same time. Some say this makes him the most powerful Sifu of all! :D

So I just seen another one of those ads for Elite Singles the dating site for "Young Professionals"

People that work for C15 - and wear sherpa jackets, drive Ford Capris and throw miscreants through plate glass windows and down council block stairwells - need love too?

Oh, is that like the 'ambition' all those college educated folk showed when borrowing more money than they could pay back in order to purchase ovrerpriced/inferior houses in sprawling estates? If you believe that by attending college and putting on a suit will suffice when you are doing business with someone that is just plain smarter than you are (even if they left school at 16) then you are goosed.

I've no idea what you're on about to be honest. I presume you just fancied a rant.

There's plenty of university educated people who like to persue relationships with those of a similar background, education and outlook.
I don't see why this would be the least surprising.

Check the stats and you will see the vast majority were college educated, then you will be sure what my point is.

See! You've just made my point.
You can't understand my post and yet you regard yourself as being above those who are not college educated? Like I said if you aint smart, then well, you aint smart.

Your one off the add has ears like the FA cup. She may well be a professional, but by jaysus she's minging:mad: If they can't even be bothered to find a looker to sell their wares, they aren't going to bother finding one for their customers.

Down with this sort of thing.

Why do you college guys always need to have a'source' posted to establish what is common knowledge, are ye that much out of touch with real life. As for the banks, I have no time for bankers but they did'nt drag the borrowers in off the street. Irresponsible borrowing is as bad as irresponsible lending.

Well, it doesn't add up, to be honest. From what I can gather after a quick google search, somewhere around 35% of the Irish population hold a third level degree. Home ownership is currently at around 68%, having fallen drastically from 81% in 2004.

Simple maths tells me that it cannot have only been college-educated people who bought houses during the boom.

So I'm curious where you would have picked up that notion.

You know those ads that say "Genuine girls are waiting to take your call for chat or maybe more" .... they are the male equivalent of Elite Singles. Hormonal teenagers (I presume) are gullible enough to believe that there are actually scantily clad women begging them to call for a bit of how's your father :D

What successful rich handsome educated guy with his sh1t together is going to need or want to go on a site where the intention is for him to be snared by some gold digger?

You do realise that most of that 68% have been home owners since before the boom/bust?

Any some (such as yours truly) became home owners during the bust, getting the house at an affordable price. I still fail to see where you got the information that only college educated people bought during the boom.

I know a couple of people who've used it.

And I was as skeptical as you, but apparently it works, in that the people you meet are exactly what you'd expect. Having to pay, for a start removes all the timewasters and creepy people that you get on free sites. But to a certain extent it also tends to remove the golddiggers, who aren't really willing to pay to find rich people.

For the most part it seems to be popular with incredibly busy and organised people who have no interest in the cattle market/white elephant stall that is Tinder and instead prefer to be able to arrange their dates like business meetings. They can also be reasonably sure that the person who turns up will be showered, dressed up and if not a nice person they'll at least be capable of holding a semi-intelligent conversation.

The clue is in the name really - it's an elitist club, no bones about it.

Well, it would be nice of you if you could actually tell us where your stats are coming from. But I think I'll be waiting a long time for that, and I really don't think there's much point in derailing the thread further.

You've got a problem with college educated people, so I would advise to avoid sites where you'd be likely to meet them.

I'm not sure about the term "professional",

Now, my mom has a university degree and had recently spent a few years doing post-graduate courses. She's interested in philosophy, archaeology and general anthropology and sociology. She likes classical music, loves going to museums and the theatre.

So while yes, those ads come across as arrogant and annoying, I can see the market for people who are looking for someone a little more educated and matching their own interests.

So basically your "MOM" can think deep thoughts in the museum coffee shop while on a date with another human being, ya know socialising!!

No wonder she's:D finding it hard to meet people shoving a pretentious "the study of" CV like that in guys faces!

Once again you jus can't seem to understand plain english.
I have no problem with any group of people , educated or otherwise. I do however have little time for snobbery.

Luckily those sites have been labeled 'professional' to make it easy for you to avoid. So the word has some use, at least!

Once again you jus can't seem to understand plain english.

If you find that there's a number of people unable to understand you, it's likely the issue is your own inability to write coherently, as opposed to other's reading comprehension.
