The whole mammy and daddy thing has come up a few times here and makes me ask, is a guy born with a silver spoon not allowed go on to be successful in his own right?

That sounds alot like "Mid Morning Matters".

North Norfolk Digital won't be happy with this!

I wonder how long Alison Curtis is going to be on in the morning?
Hopefully they announce the new presenter fast ,I am having issues trying to find an alternative.

So happy I'm not the only one. I've resorted to podcasts on Youtube but they are nearly too detailed to be listening to in work :o

Didn't think I'd like him to begin with but turned out to be one of my favourite presenters. Looks like I'll be jumping to podcasts exclusively now. Comes with the added benefit of being able to pause and skip bits :)

Today FM has been going down hill for a while now. I do enjoy Dermot and Dave but never really liked Anton savage. I think it all began when Sam Smyth got the boot from the Sunday show (hasn't been the same since) and was replaced by Anton savage. Just felt like mammy and daddy got him the job and he didn't earn it. When he took over from ray I listened for about 2 weeks but just felt he was unable to connect with the listeners. As for his replacement? Actually enjoy Neil delamare when he's standing in. Never enjoyed Alison Curtis and can't stand Louise Duffy or Paula McSweeney.

In my opinion, Today FM made the same mistake 2FM made. They stopped evolving and adapting. In the same way that 2FM built a station around Gerry Ryan, Today FM built their station around Ray D'Arcy, and like 2FM when D'Arcy left, the station lost identity to an extent.

Some stuff has been beyond their control obviously. Ray Foley leaving for 98, KC going back to Cork, Colm O'Sullivan moving behind the scenes, poor old Tony losing his battle with that horrific prick of a disease - it's been a bad few years in terms of keeping the schedule consistent.

Basically I think the chickens are really coming home to roost now. The baffling decisions made down through the years are now bearing their fruit (why was The Blast canned when Foley moved to lunchtimes instead of blooding some new presenters? Why was it replaced by an alternative music show which was always going to skew to the higher end of their demographic? Why has the breakfast show been allowed to stagnate so badly? etc, etc, etc)

I dunno, maybe I'm being overly dramatic, but honestly I can see Today FM being as pitiful as 2FM over the coming years if the ship isn't steadied fairly quick.

It's typical Irish begrudgry to knock success and always presume it's been gifted to the person through either family, dodgy deals or possibly both.

Yeah, I would have thought it couldn't be THAT difficult to find a reasonable presenter that doesn't annoy a huge segment of the audience, even if it's not the target audience.

    Obviously I was wrong.

    Very, very wrong.

While it's not impossible, the likelihood of a station owned by the same person as Today FM hiring someone who either walked out and left them in the lurch due to disagreements with management, or who was sacked due to horrific listener numbers, would be minimal.

Also the fact that they are in the same building would not help.

Is she actually that bad or is it just the format of the program. The SJW's have already started to circle the wagon and turn it into a gender issue so she might be here to stay.

    She can stay.

    I'm gone, though!

Tuned in today for the first time as I was on a long drive. My god I couldn't last more than ten minutes, her voice! Like I could even get past that if I found what she had to say interesting, but I do not. She seems a bit, fake? Certainly insincere anyway. I ended up listening to nothing. The rhythmic pulsating pressure sound of the wind passing through the window was preferable to listening to her. Bring Anton baaaaaaack!

God give the girl a break, its not her fault Anton,s gone.. Hopefully Anton will move to 2fm for a new 9-12 slot (haven't listened to 2fm in years, but I,d switch for him)

Literally everyone on Niamh Fitzpatrick's problem section!

    https://www.facebook.com/todayfm/posts/10154302649647568

The poor fella picked the wrong time to write in!

I haven't listened since Anton left, I'd normally leave it on for Dermot and Dave but I wouldn't go out of my way to hear them. They're great but the music that they play (no doubt are made to play, when Dermot was on his own and tossed the playlist he played some great stuff) is mostly dross. So they've lost a listener there too.

If they feck up Paul McLoone now in the evenings I'll be a bear.

They're nearly all like that. I'd say Today FM might genuinely have a problem it doesn't seem to be relenting, in fact it seems to be gathering momentum

I really thought that it would die down after a couple of days but they're pretty relentless. I feel sorry for the people who are running the social media accounts!

I've been listening to Christmas FM so I haven't had to listen to regular radio since Anton left but I have no idea what I'm going to listen to once that's over.

Plus Anton's father was with RTE so he's hardly going to get Today FM doing him a favour by hiring his son to replace someone RTE just poached from Today FM.

It's been a week. The campaign will die over Christmas, and everyone will move on. Remember all the "Bring Back Will Leahy!" pages and comments?

I have nothing against Alison, think she has been thrown in at the deep end as she was 2 years ago when Darcy left and she gets on with it. However this morning going to work she was talking about something and she said she and her sister have "argusations" over said topic. I couldn't believe it, I shouted wtf at the radio. Change to 4fm, not great, put on tubridy, he was talking about Syria and Liam Cunningham, I couldn't believe how he fumbled over every sentence, it was distracting listening to him. Did the local stations but ****e. Turned it off then, Irish radio is dire. Worst I've ever heard, Anton, you're sorely missed.

Whatever gig Anton does next, some people will say he only got it because of his parents. It's like a bizarre mantra.

If he wins two Nobel prizes in one year - "yeah, well his parents have connections everywhere"

If he does the Graveyard shift on South East Radio "Ah yeah, its well for some having Mammy and Daddy to get you these jobs ..."

That says more about the people who say it than the person they say it about . Smacks of begrudgery.........a very Irish trait .
Anton had it in buckets and spades .....doesn't need his mammy or daddy to get him a job.

Some are unwilling to give Anton any credit at all.

Antons interview with Michael Buble was superb, he got Buble to engage with him in a conversation rather than the standard rota of popular questions. I certainly saw a side of Buble that I didn't see before.

But the work Anton had done beforehand or someone had done for him and Antons use of that information was, for me anyway, Antons standout feature.

I've never heard "argusation" used as a word before, but I think it's a rather amusing description of something that there isn't really another word for (that I know of anyway). :o

I actually like Alison in her normal role which was on a Sat morning I think. A couple of minutes talking then a few songs, nothing deep or long. But she is not suited to a 3 hour mostly talk based show.
