Bank of Ireland are still behind the times in many aspects, their online banking system is horrendous too.

Glad I'm with AIB - smartwatch app, android pay, usable internet banking..

I wonder are there controls in place to stop just anyone with physical access to your card from adding it to their Pay app?

I'm just setting mine up now, I'm with KBC. After adding the card, they contact the bank and then ask you how you want to confirm. My phone number is an option and they send a code to you. The phone number was supplied to the app by the bank, it's not taken from the phone you're using.

Also, I just had to line the card up with my phones camera and the app read all the details so didn't even have to type them

When I added a card, I got a text from AIB with my verification code.

So you would need to nab a card & phone.

Contactless terminal and retailer sign up is all.

List of retailers in link below.
For the lazy - Tesco, Spar, Eurospar, Mace, McDonald's, KFC, Easons, Boots and a few more

    https://www.android.com/pay/

Is retailer sign up really required? I have got Boon and Android Pay to work in plenty of retailers that are not listed on the Android Pay website. Also, the Android Pay website states "Android Pay can be used at millions of shops around the world, wherever contactless payments are accepted".

Hence, is retailed opt-in really required?

Nope, its more of an advertisement from the launch partners.

Ya and only repeating themselves with a copy and paste answer to every individual person about 40 times over this morning alone, you would have to wonder about these banks and who is in charge of customer service and their online presence, what morons.

The same people who were in charge of mortgage lending in 2007?

Got it set up on both my Debit and credit cards. Going to be trying it out at lunchtime to see how it goes. Expecting a few shopkeepers around Galway city to be confused! Fair play to AIB on and KBC on getting there first, must say have always been impressed with AIB in terms of their online banking options. Obviously got some tech people/management with their heads screwed on. Cant say the same for BoI.

Seen as UB just made the change to contactless cards I am guessing it will be about five years before this is available. I am wondering if it's worth moving to AIB or KBC?

Had been trying to get this working for ages with no success.
Tried it out earlier and it worked perfect, thankfully won't need to switch banks to get it.

KBC's mobile and internet banking has come on leaps and bounds. It was beyond atrocious when I joined in 2014.

Good to see it's available now. Might as well switch to another bank soon then.

The other thread says they have no plans to implement this any time soon.

Very easy to set up. Google already had my AIB credit card details for online payments so it automatically loaded my card into the app when I opened it. I just had to enter my CVC, wait 20 seconds for a confirmation code by text, was prompted to switch on NFC and that was it - all done.

Do you need to have the app open in order for it to work? Or just touch the phone to the reader?

I agree with this and the app says some new functionality will be introduced soon too.

Maybe it's just to do with Android Pay and integrating something into their own app.

It says that < €30 should work by just waking up your home screen. If you enter your phone pin, you can spend more than €30. No need to open the app itself.

From what i understand, you need to wake the phone for transactions less than 30. Unlock the phone for transactions greater than 30. Obviusly you need to have NFC turned on

I read that alright, just wanted to check with someone who had used it before I make a fool of myself in front of a big queue of people in spar at lunch!

The contactless > 30 euro transactions would be a big plus
