Seems Rabo Direct have wrapped up their sponsorship of the podcast if their lack of an appearance on Thursday's pods were anything to go by.
Anyone thought of buying the Second Captains Sports Annual?

I'm getting it and am happy to support them. Really enjoyed some of the stuff in last years. Have to admit the podcasts themselves are something I'd pay a subscription for but doubt its a viable strategy for them.

Overall I suppose its difficult for them to monetise their popularity I'd say (although I'm sure they are doing fine with what they get off the Irish Times and RTE for the TV and radio shows) - I know people go along to the guardian live shows and pay 25/30 quid for a ticket but I don't get that at all. I've been to a couple of second captains live shows and although they're a bit of fun I don't think listening to journalists chat about sport live is really worth that kind of money and regardless in a small island like Ireland they can't tour it like the guardian lads anyway.

Anyone any idea why Andy Lee didn't feature in the live podcast last night? (aside from the Fair View).

Is that Podcast showing up on your feed? Strange, no sign of it on Podcast Republic.

    Nope, I was at it.

That live Fairview is one of the best things they've done, Richie's dodgy accent was brilliant. "Is there a man among you who'd slice out his own liver for the Dubs" :D

US Murph was fairly shameless with the plugs, good chat though.

McDevitt's dig at Newstalk was funny.

There was two podcasts put out, a shorter football one and a longer one with rugby, GAA and other stuff. Haven't listened to either yet but that was the description on them.

Mad Men's Don Draper : What you call love was invented by guys like me, to sell nylons.

The sound is pretty bad on this live podcast.. Balance is all off.

Music keeps drowning out pretty much everyone but Eoin.

Tadhg Furlong was very good I thought (and I usually tune out for the rugby stuff)

Listened to Dunphy's new podcast and when he brought up Ken's article in Irish Times about Pep, John Giles said ' I wouldn't much agree with anything Ken Early says about football'. Let the Irish Football Podcast wars commence!

Does anyone find Eoin's voice a wee bit unsuited to shouting?

Saddens me to hear that Gilsey hasn't got time for Ken. Seems to me they probably agree on a lot more than Giles thinks they do.

Don't think they do, Ken is given to flights of fancy and is too obsessed with people's personalities over what happens on the field but is very funny to listen to at his best. Giles is a dour football man who relies on a set of old fashioned values that don't change. Can see how Giles got rubbed up the wrong way.

I think the actual dispute goes back to the newstalk days. Ken rarely was allowed near Giles even when mcdevitt & gilroy were out. Can remember Ken making a big case for Stephen Ireland to Giles and Giles not having it. Who was right there?

Listened to a bit of dunphys podcast. Turned it off when dunphy made a point that some of those abused in the recent scandal went on to be quite famous and weren't "people without a voice". An odd point to make I felt.

From the sound of Giles he dosent have much time for anyone in the media who never played football. Not 'football people'

To be fair, I'd imagine the whole "Marseille Trialist" thing got on his tits big time. A wary antipathy to Ken at best - always Murph who stood in for Eoin on Thursdays - never any interaction between Ken and Giles I can recall, even on OTB roadshows.

Totally get that there's a gulf of difference between the two men, add to that that Ken really isn't a "football man", which means that John is always going to be wary of what he says or writes. Though they're both kindred spirits in some ways, I often think. Not so much, maybe, in terms of always being in complete agreement, with each other, but that they both seem to enjoy commentating on football matters with opinions that challenge the consensus. Gilesey likes to cut through the bullshit to get to the core of an issue, Ken also likes to go against the grain with what he has to say. Now, you could say that he tries to cut through the bullsh!t, by adding a new unique layer of bullsh!t all of his own.

I can't remember the context, be I do recall Ken referring to Eoin's interaction with Giles as Eoin adopting "the idiot nephew role". A role I think Ken would be incapable of playing. He would have challenged Giles a lot more than Mcdevitt did, or Gilroy/Molloy do now, and I don't think Giles would of responded to well to that.

Pretty much, their dynamic would never have worked

Anyone find that the editing was a bit off for the live shows? Probably much more entertaining in person than listening via podcast, they should have filmed it and issued the whole show as a video podcast maybe?
