I just copped that the two attempts to add each card (BoI and Revolut) cost me the 4 euro and wasn't refunded when it didn't work. I'm still extremely puzzled as to why I couldn't though, especially with the Revolut.

Any of you able to post the app version number? I had just downloaded the latest Arm64 one from apkmirror.

Using v1.3.122316814 up to now but v1.4 was released today to add loyalty cards and TfL (London Underground, etc.)

Not really that many settings in the app but I didn't change any from the default settings. Tried the partners PTSB visa debit and it didn't work, card not supported error.

Can't get this working with either AIB Visa Debit or Credit cards using my Irish address.

    Card not supported error.

Any tips to get it working? Would be great for those times I forget my wallet.

Android Pay is launching today in Ireland - it's in the Play Store now!!

EDIT Disappointingly only AIB and KBC are participating at the moment

    Details of cards supported below

A brief glimmer of hope that my brand new, contact less Ulster Bank Visa Debit card could be used was quickly dashed by Android Pay.

    Damn you Ulster Bank.

We get to add cards from non participating banks to the app though.

Can't see how there would be any cost benefit as your bank are still processing the transaction? It's just easier to authenticate

Google doesn't charge a transaction fee in other countries - not sure about here, don't know why it should be different here.

Statement from KBC doesn't mention additional charges either

Can you use this anywhere that takes a contactless card at the moment, or does the retailer need to sign up as well or have a special terminal do you know?

    Thanks!

Contactless terminal and retailer sign up is all.

List of retailers in link below.
For the lazy - Tesco, Spar, Eurospar, Mace, McDonald's, KFC, Easons, Boots and a few more

Meanwhile one of the retailer lobby groups was advising retailers to be technophobic and refuse payments from mobiles due to fraud risk.

I tried to use my Stocard loyalty app in Spar and was actually told "sorry we don't accept those as there's a HUGE risk of fraud". It scans a barcode and makes no payments! What fraud risk?! I can't even see how one is remotely possible.

I got the same crap in Tesco where I was told to "stop tampering with the self scan" when I tried to scan my phone screen with the club card ...

Ireland seems to be full of luddites compared to a lot of places.

More secure, your actually card details are never sent to the shop/terminal all transactions are carried out using tokens which are randomly generated.

I wonder are there controls in place to stop just anyone with physical access to your card from adding it to their Pay app?

Bank of Ireland have said on twitter that they have "no immediate plans" for compatibility with Android pay.

Because this technological advance has come completely out of the blue presumably.

I've told them that I'm considering changing banks to avail of it.

I was told in a Maxol station they don't take contactless payments because its too risky

And the retailer lobby group could only put forward the risk of theft from scanning contactless cards, nothing to do with actual transactions. Idiots.

Who are this retailer lobby group? Any links?

If a retailer told me that they wouldn't accept contactless payments I'd politely tell them that I wouldn't be bothering them again.

It's their business to understand these things.
