For the lovely tweets and posts, thank you. Sincerely.

Now.. any gigs going? I'm available for weddings, Christenings, Bar Mitzvahs...

All above from the shows Twitter page which Savage must have been running himself as it also says "as there is no show is this now a personal page?" and a photo him with a bag over his shoulder hitchhiking... Does not seem too bothered....

I think Ann is a researcher, not producer. Could be wrong though, s'just I thought Pam was producer.

One of the reasons this show failed was the amount of producers working on it and the baggage they brought. There was a large amount of former Ray D'Arcy staff on Anton's show, so perhaps this was one of the reasons for its over-reliance on tearful mums, terrible music etc? Whatever it was, the show was all over the shop and, like D'Arcy, was way too long.

The executive producer of the show was Killian Murray, who was a former Last Word and Savage Sunday producer.

Under him was: Pam Blake, ex-Ray D'Arcy and Tony Fenton, producer
    Niamh Hassell, ex-Ray D'Arcy, producer
Siobhan Hogan, ex-Ray D'Arcy, producer, who left to join Ray in RTE after a few months and was replaced by Ronan Casey, ex-Breakfast with Hector on 2FM, who in turn left a few months ago to be replaced by Ann Gleeson, Today FM'er who's probably worked on every show there.
    Eimear Shannon, ex-Ray D'Arcy, researcher.
    Plus temps.

The talk about playlist and Anton not liking the more recent music playlisted by the station is amusing. The music never seemed to fit the show from the off. It was like Anton was uncomfortable with the concept of music itself, no matter what it was. He certainly didn't seem to be too well versed in music. Like the guests there was no rhyme nor reason nor theme for much of the music played on the show. But Today FM has been experiencing music problems for ages now. It made its name when Britpop was still a thing, Ireland loved David Gray and guitars were cool. The 20 somethings who made the station massive were all into that. The station tried to grow with them, but they no longer care for radio, so the station seemes to be doing a 2FM and re-starting itself in the hope of getting new 20-somethings on board. But do today's 20-somethings even care about radio?

He was certainly into 70s rock.

I was shocked & saddened to hear Anton had left, true he wasn't a DJ, but that made him try harder than anyone, researched guests, knew their funny histories, anything to get an edge, like Michael Buble's interest in his hockey teams making the playoffs, he was rightly chuffed at someone actually mentioning that.

I was a fan of Anton since Savage Sunday & remember him asking on one of the pet slots by Alex Petrilli, "why do dogs eat grass" Alex simply said "because they can" :D

& was glad he got the chance to do his own daily show & every day became a Savage day!
As he cut short his yearly holiday to Florida, to prepare a plan for the show, as he was the outsider & was known to fill in for a lot of people & was extremely versed & had a dry sense of humor to boot.

He just had a way with guests, inc David McGowan, as he wasn't too chuffed to hear when Simon Delaney filled in for him, but he said on his twitter page, that Anton is his own man & takes his show with him, as didn't the last fella do it too?

    https://twitter.com/quirkyglamping/status/804726836638969856

Todayfm lost the only all round performer he was & hope it won't be long before he's snapped up by someone else.

I'd absolutely love Foley back on the airwaves, he's hilarious. It's gas how much he winds people up the wrong way

After the interview he did where he mentioned Today FM leaving him high and dry after promising him a show, I'd be very surprised. They even cut that interview from the listen back for that day.

What happened with Ray, JP & Adele, as i briefly heard him mention on the 7 o clock show, they done someone a favour by moving to 98FM & help their ratings? & afaik Muireann was with them & no Adele?
He said that didn't work out & now down in Cork?

She has seen off Foley, D'Arcy, Duffy and Anton now, right?

I forgot she worked with D'arcy, as i thought she was gonna go back to evenings with Louise, in where started with TomDunne

Today fm didn't waste much time getting rid of all traces of Anton on the website.
Rather petty of Today FM to take down all menton of Anton from their website.

Now that Today FM have removed Anton's links from their site you can still get to his page via

    http://www.todayfm.com/The-Anton-Savage-Show

They forgot about the last fella as well

    But feel free to complain?

I wonder will muireann o Connell get a slot in the new line up if they are serious as she is an extremely talented presenter and she seems to be working in todayfm and 98fm as cover and on tv3 so she's obviously highly tought of.

But would it work for three hours though or like was said is the 9-12 slot an out of date radio time slot in Irish radio ?

If you moved Dermot and Dave to 9-12 then who takes over their time slot ? I think ed smith is very and has a good radio voice.

But let's say you add an hour to the breakfast show. I mean Dempsey that I listen to sounds tired with his 7-9 slot as it is. Adding an hour won't help.

Before Rayofsunshine came, didn't Ian lose an hour to his show to go up against GRyan?
& Ian made a point of it too!

Ya what happened with him? I noticed it was someone new recently

Alison Curtis is filling in next week according to The Irish Independent.

She also did the same when the little fella left all 4ft11 7/8 of him 2yr ago :D & on the same w/end the xmas party was on too, bummer ;)

Did they not have a guy that did all that once......

Was it Tim 'crap' Kelly, who maintains he was AMK's fella & always heard her groaning every time he said it to anyone, now he's a Ghostbuster :eek:

He done the show before ray came & complained live on air that he was getting shafted more or less to ray

In the interview with Anton, which never went up on the Listen Back feature, Foley said he made the move to 98FM as a favour alright, as they had dipping ratings. However, when it became clear that that wasn't working out, he said that Today FM had invited him back to host another show (he didn't say which slot). He was all set to start but about two weeks beforehand Today FM told him they weren't interested anymore. After that he went to Cork.
It sounded like there was a bit of bad blood there. I remember listening to it and going "Wow, can't believe he's saying this on air!"

I wonder if someone on the show will be in trouble for giving him access to the twitter account? He never ran that page himself.
I like to think it was someone's act of rebellion.

There have been tweets in the past that made me think he had access to it whenever he wanted.

Yep, definitely posted himself. When the new Top Gear started with Chris Evans there was a range of commentary tweets, given his passion for cars, it had to have been Anton.

I'm sure he is but we're never going to hear that. Don't forget he comes from a PR background so there's not going to be unseemly twitter spats or controversial newspaper interviews. He managed to present the show for all that time without ever having us learn anything much about Anton the private person.

It'd be interesting to know what sort of work is going on in the background here. Was Today FM using the Communication Clinic for its PR? Will his mum be popping up on their radio shows again?

Crazy decision....I'm not sure I understand it but there again I'm not in the demographic the station management seem to want to attract.

Wife is devastated!!! And quite narked that Alison E J Curtis () is subbing in. I've nothing against her and quite liked her during her Phantom 'rock-chick' days when she played good music (I thought so anyway).....but her reinvention as mother supreme is grating.

One thought that got kicked around at the weekend was the potential for Gavan Reilly to do that slot - quite liked him when he filled in for Matt?

    Alison Curtis? Aw no

It'll be interesting to see what Ian says at the handover..
Personally I can't stand Alison so I'll see how long I can stick it..problem is they will probably stick Paula Mc on also..who is far worse than Alison.

Surely the pension problem has had an effect.

How long until Anton follows the possy and rocks up on some RTE show?

Monday, 9am, Alison "fake laugh" Curtis = Radio off.......

Ian handled the handover very professionally there. Referenced his shock at Anton going, wished him well, said Alison has tough job of stepping in and a bit of a mixed message of 'give her a bit of rope'

Didn't drag it out, but didn't ignore it.

Doubt it - you could imagine the howls of indignation if the kid of a former chair of RTE got a gig there and was paid more than a penny.

I think he's far to PR-savvy to go down that route.

    Maybe something on TV3?

Loved Anton, very witty, easy to listen too and just all around nice guy, where ever he rocks up I will be moving the dial

got the impression he wasn't entirely in agreement with the decision, but obviously he'll keep that largely to himself!

Yep. Excuses. Didnt mention not letting Anton have some freedom over his own show.

They ain't seen nothing yet if they think Anton's listenership figures are bad.

I agree with Jawgap..that was the impression I got also

well that's me changed over to Red Fm and Neil Prendeville , I really cannot listen to Alison Curtis

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,781 ✭✭✭clappyhappy

Ian Dempsey seemed annoyed and upset that Anton is gone, his comment "I hope today FM find whatever it is they are looking for" seemed a bit of a dig at the station. Today FM just issued a statement read by Alison Curtis saying it was the failing listeners was an issue and that there is big changes coming in 2017.

The most disturbing part of this episode is my new discovery that Alison Curtis has a twin sister Karen

My God there's 2 of them!

Symbolic that the show opens today with a song called Kids, seeing as that's what they want to attract...!
