Wilodge Enrico (WLZ) is off Sympa and his mother is a full sister to Wilodge Vantastic. Looks a serious bull on paper, Sligo Ai had him, don't know if he's available any more.

Wilodge Joskins from Dovea is off Vantastic and a Sympa cow.

    Definitely not.

There's no milk in Sympa either judging by his figures yet he's a 5 star replacement? The mind boggles....

If you click into what makes up their replacement index you'll see some highly rated terminal bulls are bumping up their replacement index with the cull cow weight etc. Milk is only one part of it(albeit a highly weighted part). But just going on replacement index and not what makes it up can be risky.

Calving difficulty appears to be strongest merit for stars

Anyone use or have heifers off the lim bull highlander? How do they go for docile and shape? Might be looking at a few to buy and just wondering do any of ye have opinions on him? Thanks

They are out of sims so milk shouldn't be to much of an issue.

One of the best limousin Bulls I ve ever used. Was an easy calved Bulls that bred absolute tanks of cattle which killed out very well. I'm sorry I didnt use him a lot more when he was available. Loads of muscle and good docility off him.
His heifers/cows lack a bit on the milk side but out of Sim cows would correct that I'd imagine.

This is the only Highlander cow I have with her ZCH calf this year

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,453 ✭✭✭Never wrestle with pigs

She definitely done a good job on him. Nice shape and nice deep cow.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,675 ✭✭✭tanko

Yeah, she has it every way, i know the eurostars aren't everything but she has a maternal index of €139 and a milk figure of +10.5 kgs. If they were all like her it would be great.

Whats the rest of the breeding in that cow tanko? Typical plain looking, but super cow when it comes to doing the business.

Her mother was 44% lim, 22% AA, 19% HO and 15% HE. A grandsire was a "scrub bull".

    I'd use LZF.....

Vittoz seems to be your best bet based off what the active bull list is saying. +8kgs at 60% reliability for milk. Or maybe Voimo, he's got more stars across the page as a whole. Both can be got from NCBC @ 38 quid a straw.

Cow was on this AM. Tech probably not carrying them....

    I'd use LZF.....

Shed want to be a muscly cow herself to have any kind of shape

Has anyone used the Dovea CH bull Bivouac?

I went with HHJ he has vittoz and artois in his breeding so should be a good maternal with strong terminal. I seen photos of HHJ of progressive fb good they were some of the best calves I'v seen and at the ploughing they said he could be one of there best ever bulls. Hopefully his maternal figures rise. With the way cattle are at the minute its hard to justify 38 for commercial breeding. Future farmer I have a good few LZF on the ground and a few more coming so I just wanted something different

If going for milk from a CH, Tombapik is rated very highly with high reliability for milk. Expensive at 50e a straw though. Dovea had him in the Spring anyway

Have to scan 5 at home on Thursday that were AI'd to Bivouac. Looks good for milk/maternal for a CH.

Yes but did Pencil not say he wanted milk....

And he has gone on to say he wanted a commercial price ...

Not as you have suggested a bull at €38 a straw or slatting LZF on muscle....

I have seen a good few LZF calves and in general they are of nice quality, he is very easy calved and I think his daughters will work well. He is also one of the few CH (commercially priced) in the PG/Munster catalogue not carrying double muscled gene, which for me is important in terms of daughter calving etc......

But in terms of a CH team, FSZ LZF, FWO, GRF & GPD - hard passed IMO...
Don't know if I would say HHJ is one of the best ever, time will tell....

How's her temprament? Highlanders were known to be a bit highly strung

I see Dovea have a new On-Dit son off a Ronick Hawk cow called Cavelands Jolly.

Tanko, have you heard much about this bull since? I like the look of him myself but not able to find much information on what he crosses well with. I was thinking of using him on a few blue cows. he has very good milk and docility figures and he isn't overly muscly which should work well on the blue cows.

Don't know anything about him, there's hardly any calves off him yet. I used ION a lot one year, he bred fair tanks of heifers but they weren't great for milk, have only one cow left off him.
A lot of new Limousin Bulls start of with good figures for daughters milk but after a year or two this figure drops way down. It's hard to find limousin Bulls that improve the milk situation.

As for that Highlander cow of mine, yeah she can be a bit thick alrite and I had to get rid of a lovely HCA cow and a super FZF heifer off her because they were very flighty. Got good money for them so it could have been worse.

I have to agree about LZF a neighbor beside me used him on aa x fr second calvers (very plain type heifers) and they all calved unassisted He has sold some of the bulls and they averaged 350kg and his prices ranged from 900-1060. The new bull firoda jason is also not carrying the double muscle gene so someone was telling me anyway.

I agree thats a serious team of bull in fairness how many of them have you used.

Used FSZ LZF & FWO, hard go away from them to be honest. Small cow numbers.

Reliably told that GRF will do a job similar to LGL - so will use a little of him.

GPD I have seen a few of, I like him, he's not for me, but does suit a lot of guys who want that bit extra....

That's not even half the CH in the catalogue, choice is huge.
