    Finally had some time today to hit the offie. Got the redbreast lustau edition and while the chap infront of me went for a yellow spot he also bought Jameson black barell which I'd had last week on a night out so feck it I bought a bottle of that as well. Can't wait to try the redbreast

    Bought a bottle of Hibiki Master Select which is their slightly posher NAS/TRE release yesterday. Still preferred the days of age statement stuff in duty free though.

    Decided not to go mad as I'm in Tallinn in two weeks and expect it to have a better and cheaper range than Leeds

    Wondering if I should replace with a Rittenhouse 50% from Masters of Malt or pick up a Woodford Reserve Rye in an offie. Really like the regular Woodford.

    Woodford Reserve, Bulleit and Writers Tears in my local dunnes never seen them there before. Good value if you have the vouchers.

    Personally not a big fan of woodford though I haven't tried their rye. If you like Rittenhouse then worth trying pikesvillle which Drinkstore had last time I was there and can recommend.

    It's worth trying. Similar to the 12YO but with a bit more in the way of sherry notes. It's very smooth and well worth a try for something different.

    Still not as nice as the 15 and no age statement but worth a god I think.

    Its one of the types of Irish whiskey - refers to being distilled with malted and unmalted barley in the still at the same time.

    It has a different flavour profile to malt and to grain whiskey.

    Thanks, any particular characteristic? Like could someone tell a single pot still whiskey by taste?

    Someone who has drunk a few would be able to make a decent guess at it, yes. Writers Tears is the example I'd usually give of having the distinctive taste the most - even though it's a blend with malt.

    Which did you get? I'd go for the 15YO if you can., It's a big step up from the 12 YO.

    Getting the 15yo today though , looking forward to the experience

    Edit... someone told me to try and get the 12yo cask strength if I can as he reckoned it was a fuller taste experience...any thoughts?

    No, that was going to be my purchase, buy was advised here that the 15yo was a better purchase.
    Was then talking to someone who makes whisky and he said the 12yo cask strength was probably the way to go ...so I'm confussed and befuggled

    Everyone will tell you something different.

    IMHO. The 12yo you normally drink is far superior to the 15yo.

    The only jump worth going for in the RB range is the 21yr old but it's a massive jump price wise. Try con someone into buying it as a present :pac:

    Sorry for quoting myself, far superior is a bit of an exaggeration.
    I just prefer the overall balance and profile of 12 to 15 there's nothing in the 15 to warrant the price difference so you basically pay more for the storage of the whiskey rather than any increase in quality in this case.

    But the above doesn't hold true for the 21yo
